Being away from the office means working on my laptop—and with that comes productivity slipping away into oblivion. The problem, for me at least, is the screen, or rather, the lack of them. A portable monitor solves this dilemma handily, working just like an external monitor setup does in the office, but with mobility also in mind. While larger portable monitors (especially multi-panel ones) may require a dedicated power connection, most can use your laptop’s USB port for all the juice they need. The portable monitor category is a very large one, occupied by both name-brand producers of laptops and desktop monitors as well as plenty of companies you’ve never heard of. For this buying guide, I evaluated 20 portable monitors from a wide range of manufacturers that represent price points ranging from $70 to nearly $700. By Dennis Thompson HealthDay ReporterTHURSDAY, May 28, 2026 (HealthDay News) — A new ultrasound patch can help save high-risk pregnancies, by continuously monitoring blood flow through the fetus and umbilical cord, according to a new study. The flexible patch adheres to the abdomen and feeds ultrasound data to a computer through an attached cable, researchers said. Tests on 62 pregnant women showed that the patch works at least as well as standard ultrasound devices, researchers reported May 26 in the journal Nature Biotechnology. In at least one instance, the experimental device helped save a pregnancy. “She was 28 weeks along in her pregnancy — still pretty early on — and an initial examination showed a normal fetal heart rate. Then I saw that the flow signal was quite abnormal,” study co-author Geonho (Tom) Park said in a news release. Park is a postdoctoral scholar in anesthesiology, perioperative and pain medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine in California. I’m torn on the price of the Movestyle, though. I love how affordable it is at $580, putting it within a more mainstream budget than I would have assumed. On the other hand, this is a very unique product, and I think higher-end specs might have been a better choice. This is a VA panel rather than IPS, and that means the color accuracy and saturation are OK, but not the best. Although it’s only rated for up to 250 nits of brightness, it topped out at 310 nits when measured against my colorimeter. But it’s not terribly bright, which could be a problem in a brightly-lit room. The display quality isn’t horrible, and this monitor isn’t made for professional video work. And yet, in terms of the viewing experience, it doesn’t feel all that high-quality, either. For a similar price, you can get a more capable OLED monitor that’s brighter, faster, more colorful, and capable of HDR. But that doesn’t come with the adjustable, rolling stand.
