The singer and actor, beloved worldwide as the Queen of Country, died last month at the age of 80. In the wake of her death, a 1992 interview with the Chicago Tribune resurfaced in which the “9 to 5” singer discussed her reasons for passing on the role. “I will not play just an evil part,” she said at the time. “In fact, I got offered $7 million several years ago to play the part that Faye Dunaway played in Supergirl. In October 2025, creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris claimed that the Channel 4 sitcom, which followed the adolescent travails of four foul-mouthed teens, would be coming back in some form. It’s now been confirmed that Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison are all returning as socially inept schoolmates Will, Simon, Jay and Neil for The Inbetweeners 3, which starts production on Monday (7 September). If you’ve never loved anything before, apart from a car or a sandwich or The Inbetweeners, this news is for you! Netflix unveiled on Monday that a third movie in the raunchy franchise is moving ahead, with production beginning on Monday in the U.K. on The Inbetweeners 3, which the streamer described as “a continuation of the hugely popular sitcom and its two record-breaking films.” Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas will reprise their roles as the protagonist trio Will McKenzie, Jay Cartwright, Neil Sutherland and Simon Cooper who get into all sorts of misadventures. And The Inbetweeners creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris are back to write and direct the film. Chris Hansen is not at the Venice Film Festival for this weekend’s world premiere of a film inspired by his work on To Catch a Predator, but the man still proved to be the center of attention during Primetime‘s press conference. “Obviously, I hope he likes the movie,” said Robert Pattinson when asked about Hansen’s early objections to Lance Oppenheim‘s A24 film and the fact that he purchased pre-show advertising for his streaming platform. Onslaught, in theaters this week, should be the perfect early-September treat. The aggressive action thriller is gory, loud, and packed with interesting actors, and it has a straightforward premise: Three murderous super-soldiers, the result of some shadowy extra-governmental experiment, have escaped from a lab and are descending upon a small town in New Mexico. A tough-as-nails retired Army sniper named Celeste (played by Adria Arjona), living somewhat off the grid in a trailer park, must use her grit and know-how to defend herself against the oncoming attack. Yet as simple as that sounds, the film feels needlessly complex. Rather than just delivering on its clean setup, it becomes fixated on teasing future installments—a symptom of the obsession with sequelization that’s affecting even smaller genre films. The director Adam Wingard was, once upon a time, a master of the cheap thrill. A star rating of 4 out of 5. Writer-director Martin McDonagh returns with Wild Horse Nine, the fifth film of his rightly celebrated career. Once again, you can expect a rush of nominations and awards, following on from 2017’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (seven Oscar nods, two wins) and 2022’s The Banshees of Inisherin (nine Oscar nominations). Like both, Wild Horse Nine premieres in competition at the Venice Film Festival, which is something of McDonagh’s lucky charm. Not that he needs any good fortune with this latest effort, which springs from an expertly crafted screenplay, one that recalls the odd couple set-up of McDonagh’s debut In Bruges. While that featured Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell as two bickering hitmen on a job in the titular “fairytale” town, here we have Sam Rockwell and John Malkovich, as two CIA operatives. And, guess what? They bicker. A lot. Fear not, though; McDonagh is far from spinning his wheels, delivering a poignant, powerful film that skilfully blends the personal and the political.
