For 80’s and 90’s kids, E.T: The Extra Terrestrial was a real family classic. Often on the telly, this cosy sci-fi adventure was the perfect mix of comforting and a little scary. However, originally, our little alien pal was supposed to be much, much scarier. In fact, it actually was originally supposed to be an alien invasion film called Night Skies. In this story, a family is terrorised by hostile aliens on a Kentucky farm in the 1950’s, according to Screen Rant. How E.T: The Extra Terrestrial was created As Steven Spielberg and special effects legend Rick Baker got to work on creating the alien, Spielberg was unsure whether this spooky path was one that he wanted to continue on. Slash Film explains that screenwriter John Sayles’ script, “depicted a small group of malicious aliens — Squirt, Skar, Klud and Hoodoo — that threaten a rural family and brutally kill livestock with one touch of their long, bony finger, which emits an eerie light (this device is used in “E.T.” in a very different way). …

In her tribute to her former Annie co-star Tim Curry, screen legend Carol Burnett remarked that “nobody could play lovable villains better than he could”. And let’s face it, she’s certainly got a point. The British actor – who died on Tuesday night at the age of 80 – was known for playing plenty of iconic baddies, dating right back to his film debut in the 1970s, starring as Frank-N-Further in the cult musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show. From there, his villainous roles included the dastardly pirate Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island, the nightmarish Pennywise in the TV adaptation of It and, as mentioned, Miss Hannigan’s no-good brother Rooster in Annie. Following on from the success of the recent Gladiators reboot, another staple of Saturday night telly is due to hit our screens. After months of rumours, Disney+ announced on Tuesday afternoon that Blind Date is being revamped for a new generation on the streaming platform. The long-running dating show previously saw Cilla Black interviewing helping singletons find love, with the revival’s host already knowing a thing or two about dating shows. Yes, this time around it’ll be Love Island favourite Maura Higgins at the helm of Blind Date, with Disney+ teasing “a host of innovative format twists and a spicy dose of drama, as our daters will see if forever love can truly grow once the new series begins filming in a secret Blind Date location later this year”. “Potential new partners are always lurking behind the wall,” they added in an official press release. Even if you aren’t old enough to remember the heyday of Columbia House, you’re probably familiar with the scam at its center. The mail-order club would offer customers eight to 12 CDs, tapes, records — and, in later years, DVDs and blu-rays — for a penny. By agreeing to the arrangement, users were signed up for a scheme where they agreed to purchase a certain number of products over a specific amount of time at full price. Each month, they were sent a mailer promoting the “Selection of the Month,” and if the customer failed to return the rejection form, Columbia House would send them the new release and charge their account.   The practice of requiring customers to opt-out or be charged is called negative-option billing, and it inspired no end of complaints from customers. Columbia House drew further claims of bad business by allegedly refusing to acknowledge payments, discounting items so that users’ purchases fell just below the agreed-upon threshold and being a notoriously difficult subscription to terminate. I haven’t played Pokemon since I was a kid. I remember it being fun, playing on the floor at my local video game store. I remember all of the original 151 Pokemon — blade-armed mantis Scyther was my favorite. I played Pokemon Snap on my N64. That is about where my current knowledge ends. I don’t know how many Pokemon exist now. But I do know Pikachu. More importantly, Polaroid knows I know Pikachu — and that you know Pikachu. Capitalizing on that knowledge, the company on Tuesday announced a limited-edition Pokemon camera collection to celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary.  The main attraction is a bright yellow Pikachu version of the compact Polaroid Go Generation 3 instant camera. It costs $100 and includes a hand strap shaped like Pikachu’s lightning-bolt tail. A pink, white and blue Sylveon camera is also available for the same price. I couldn’t tell you what a Sylveon was, so I looked it up. It debuted in Pokemon X and Y in 2013, meaning this collection is apparently designed to exploit …
