Tesla Driver Alarmed as FSD Takes Him Directly Into the Path of an Oncoming Train

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech One Tesla driver is lucky to be alive after his vehicle took control as he waited for a train to pass. Joshua Brown of Plano, Texas said his car’s Full Self-Driving mode engaged while he sat waiting at a railroad crossing. Footage shared with local media shows his Tesla plowing through the fiberglass crossing arms, shattering his window as the train screamed by just feet away. Brown admitted that he had zoned out while waiting for the train to pass — which is fair enough, if you’re a human. For an autonomous vehicle, it’s inexcusable. “About the time I realized I was moving, the bar is right there, like right in front of me,” Brown said. The Tesla’s rear camera captured the crossing as a Dallas Area Rapid Transit train blazed past, barely missing Brown by a few car lengths. Texas Tesla driver narrowly avoids autopilot disaster “I would like to say I wasn’t rattled, but it rattled …

Video Shows Passenger Bail From Waymo in Path of Oncoming Train

A passenger bailed from his Waymo robotaxi as the vehicle drove dangerously close to an oncoming railcar. Viral footage of the incident, which took place last Wednesday, shows the car blundering down a stretch of light rail tracks in Phoenix, Arizona, as if it were an actual motorist lane it was supposed to be driving in. The passenger, smelling trouble, exits the car during one of its random stops without looking back. “Oh get out get out get out!” the bystander taking the footage can be heard saying. Moments later, a railcar a few hundred yards directly behind the Waymo can be briefly seen beginning to pull out from the station. But the Waymo’s antics weren’t over yet. After driving again, it then suddenly stops as another railcar comes lumbering down the opposing pair of tracks, while the one behind it appears unsure of whether to proceed. Piling one bad decision on top of another, the robotaxi decides to start reversing, but doesn’t leave the track before the video ends. A Valley Metro spokesperson said …

Tesla Accused of Killing Family, Plus Their Dog, by Steering Vehicle Head-on Into Oncoming Semi-Truck

A man is suing Tesla after half his family was killed when their Model X, which was running one of the automaker’s driving assistance features, veered across the road line and into a tractor-trailer — crushing his wife, two daughters, son-in-law, and family dog, according to a grim new lawsuit reported by The Independent. The man, Nathan Blaine, is accusing Tesla and CEO Elon Musk of having “intentionally misrepresented the safety of their vehicles” and the driver assistance features, the outlet noted, and says that the misleading claims lulled him and his wife into a “false sense of security.” “Based on representations the Blaines heard made by Musk and Tesla,” the complaint states, per The Independent, “[they] believed [it] was a safer driver than a human driver of convention[al] vehicles.” The suit targets Tesla’s “Autosteer” feature, a punched-up version of cruise control that “detects lane markings, road edges, and the presence of vehicles and objects to intelligently keep your vehicle in its driving lane,” per Tesla. Though it’s in beta, the feature is available to …
