xAI Adds 19 New Gas Turbines Despite Ongoing Lawsuit

xAI has added 19 natural gas turbines to its second data center campus in Southhaven, Mississippi, over the past two months, according to internal emails seen by WIRED. The additions come as xAI is fighting a lawsuit from the NAACP and several environmental groups, alleging that the company is violating the Clean Air Act by operating more than two dozen natural gas turbines at the site without appropriate air permits. Emails between an official in the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and a representative from Trinity Consultants, obtained via a public records request by the Southern Environmental Law Center and shared with WIRED, show that xAI installed 19 portable gas turbines on its site in Southaven between late March and early May. That brings the total to 46 turbines operating at the site. A spreadsheet included in the email to MDEQ has a column labeled “Total Power Output” that appears to list the megawatt capacity of each turbine on the site. xAI appears to have added more than 500 megawatts of natural gas turbines since …

Kalshi seeks federal pause against Washington gambling lawsuit during ongoing appeals

Kalshi is asking a federal judge in Seattle to temporarily halt Washington state’s gambling lawsuit while the company pursues an appeal before the Ninth Circuit. In a motion filed May 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, the prediction market operator argued that the court should freeze its remand order after sending the dispute back to state court earlier this month. Kalshi warned that moving forward in state court during the appeal could produce conflicting rulings and weaken the company’s ability to challenge the remand decision. Kalshi asks Washington federal court to stay order remanding case to state court pending resolution of its appeal to the Ninth Circuit, says being forced to engage in state-court litigation while the appeal is pending "would render Kalshi’s appellate rights meaningless." pic.twitter.com/2koCC8iayd — Daniel Wallach (@WALLACHLEGAL) May 11, 2026 The company told the court that “[b]eing forced to engage in state-court litigation while the appeal is pending would render Kalshi’s appellate rights meaningless and unnecessarily burden the courts and the parties.” Washington sued Kalshi …

As the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports drags on, thousands of seafarers are stranded on ships, and economic shockwaves ripple around the world. MICHEL MARTIN, HOST: President Trump says he is prepared to wait for the best deal to end his war with Iran. But he has also ordered the U.S. military to, quote, “shoot and kill any boat” trying to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz. In a few minutes, we’ll speak with John Bolton, who served as national security adviser in the first Trump administration. MARTIN: OK. So President Trump is ordering the U.S. Navy to target any ship, presumably from Iran, that’s laying mines …

JP Morgan Concerned Tesla Stock Will Crash by 60 Percent in Face of Ongoing Business Failures

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech Tesla’s first quarter results this year left plenty to be desired. The embattled EV maker’s sales fell short of Wall Street’s expectations, the second-worst quarter of sales since 2022. The Elon Musk-led company has struggled for two years now to keep its core business alive as competitors, particularly from China, continue to eat its lunch, taking over vast swathes of the international electric car market. Meanwhile, the company’s mercurial CEO — whose extremist rhetoric and embrace of far-right idealism has proven alienating to say the least — kicked off what could be a long and arduous pivot away from EV sales towards robotaxis and humanoid robots. The company’s progress on the former remains far behind the competition, while the latter is likely still years from going on sale. In other words, the short-term prognosis isn’t exactly glowing. To underscore those jitters, JP Morgan analysts now warning that the company’s share price — which remains massively inflated compared to …
