A Bangladeshi migrant accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in Italy was released from police custody after two days because he apologised. The case made front-page news in Italy and Giorgia Meloni’s government has now intervened, ordering a review of the case. The young girl visited a corner shop on the outskirts of Turin to buy snacks for her siblings when the 42-year-old Bangladeshi man lured her into the back of the premises and sexually assaulted her. She returned home in tears and told her mother what had happened. The shopkeeper was arrested by police and remanded in custody. Paedophile pop star Gary Glitter has been interviewed by police about alleged sex offences against a girl under 14 years old. Glitter, 82, has been accused of committing the offences “over a period of time” in the late 1970s and early 1980s at a residential address in Kensington, west London. The disgraced glam rock singer, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was questioned in prison under caution after a claim was made on 9 January 2025, The Sun reported. Glitter is currently held at category C HMP Channings Wood, Devon, according to the newspaper. Scott Cameron, 41, targeted one 13-year-old victim after meeting her at a school open day and subsequently pressured the schoolgirl into sending him explicit images before they had sex in the back of his partner’s car. Cameron, from Norris Green, Merseyside, was found guilty of multiple charges, including six counts of sexual activity with a girl aged 13–15, sexual communication with a child, meeting a child following sexual grooming and two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. He was also convicted of a further count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity involving a second victim, dating back to the early 2000s. Keir Starmer was accused of filling his government “with paedophile apologists” by opposition leaders during a brutal prime minister’s questions today. Starmer’s former comms chief Lord Doyle had the Labour whip removed on Tuesday over his links to a convicted sex offender. Doyle campaigned for a former Labour councillor, Sean Morton, after he had been charged with child sex offences in 2017. Though this was reported late last year, the prime minister still promoted his former aide to the upper chamber just two weeks ago. Doyle’s suspension from Labour comes days after fellow peer, Lord Mandelson, quit the party as the depth of his friendship with convicted padeophile Jeffrey Epstein emerged. The PM appointed the former Labour grandee to be the UK’s ambassador to the US last year though Mandelson was sacked in September.
