Now that Death in Paradise has been renewed for a further two seasons, the spotlight has moved onto Beyond Paradise. Season 4 of the Kris Marshall-led spin-off wrapped up tonight (Friday 1 May), but while certain stories came to a close, there’s plenty of life left in it yet, and the cast are game for more. “We all hope for it [to continue] because we have just the most wonderful time making it, and anyone from the general public I’ve met that comes up and has a chat absolutely loves it,” Zahra Ahmadi told Radio Times at the start of March, before joking: “I suppose people who don’t [love it] aren’t going to make their way up to me and say, ‘By the way, I absolutely hate that show you’re in.’” She continued: “But when they come up, it’s not just flippant either. After weeks of relentless hounding by the loathsome Mr Smith, Humphrey was finally forced to decide who would be leaving Shipton Abbott police station after delaying his response for as long as he feasibly could. With time having officially run out for the DI following budget cuts, he made his way to The Hub in the penultimate episode of Beyond Paradise season 4 and approached his boss’s desk, folder in hand. Inside was the name of the person who would be packing up their belongings and heading off on their not-so-merry way, fracturing the solid foundation the group had built together. But there wasn’t an ounce of regret or guilt on Humphrey’s face. In fact, he looked completely at peace with his decision – even smiling (yes, smiling!) at Mr Smith, a far cry from the despondent figure he’d cut of late. A week after its newest batch of episodes put the show in second place on Nielsen’s streaming charts, Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black moved into the top overall spot. The Netflix drama recorded 1.36 billion minutes of viewing for the week of March 23-29. That’s down a little from 1.42 billion minutes the prior week, but with overall streaming volume down week to week, the small decline was enough for Beauty in Black to move up a place. The Pitt (1.21 billion minutes) essentially tied its all-time weekly high for the week of season two’s 12th hour. Taking it out one more decimal place, the HBO Max series had 1.208 billion minutes, just shy of the 1.209 billion for the week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1. Beauty in Black and The Pitt were the only titles to cross the billion-minute mark for the week as the previous week’s leader, Virgin River, fell 39 percent to 970 million minutes of watch time. Julianna Margulies has joined the cast of Paradise season 3 in a recurring role. The post-apocalyptic drama, which concluded its second run back in March, is expected to release its third season in 2027. Details of Margulies’s (ER) role remain under wraps, according to Deadline, who first reported the casting, alongside plot details for the upcoming instalment. Paradise was renewed for a third season back in March, with cast member Sterling K Brown announcing the news on Instagram. Having starred in BBC One’s Death in Paradise on and off for close to a decade as Florence Cassell, Joséphine Jobert is making her anticipated return to UK screens in brand new procedural drama, Saint-Pierre. The Canadian series has already premiered on CBC Television on the other side of the pond but is finally coming to the UK on U&Alibi next week. On the face of it initially though, Jobert was taken aback by the similarities between her new series and Death in Paradise, explaining that she was actually “sceptical” of taking on the co-leading role as Deputy Chief Geneviève ‘Arch’ Archambault. Chatting exclusively to Radio Times about what appealed to her about the character, Jobert revealed: “Oh, everything. Three of the year’s most buzzed-about small-screen stories will receive big kudos at The Hollywood Reporter’s inaugural Sustainability in Entertainment Honors event taking place on April 23 in partnership with the Sustainable Entertainment Alliance. As lovely as Shipton Abbott is – and one certainly couldn’t describe it as sleepy, despite appearances, given all of the comings and goings – it’s no surprise Zoe is considering doing a Bilbo Baggins and heading off on an adventure. In the latest episode of Beyond Paradise, Esther’s teenage daughter, who works at Martha’s restaurant, expressed to her boss that she doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life, before asking Martha how she finally worked it all out in her head. She didn’t, was her response. Instead, Martha decided to go solo travelling, which proved to be the best decision she ever made. The BBC has confirmed that filming is officially underway on Return to Paradise season 3. The Death in Paradise spin-off, which focuses on DS Mackenzie Clarke (Anna Samson) as she balances the hectic fallout of her personal life with solving all sorts of murder cases, first aired in 2024, with a follow-up landing last year.
