Scotland fan passes away in Boston before chance to see ‘dream come true’ | UK | News

Donny Strathie, from Grangemouth, Falkirk, passed away suddenly in Boston on Sunday, June 14, aged 76. The lifelong Scotland supporter had journeyed to the United States to support Steve Clarke’s side on the greatest stage of all and had even obtained his ticket for Friday night’s fixture against Morocco. Tragically, he never had the opportunity to witness the match he had longed to attend, Daily Record reports. Now, his family, friends and fellow supporters are appealing to the Tartan Army to unite and honour him during the fixture. A poster circulating online is encouraging Scotland fans to participate in a minute’s applause during the 76th minute of the World Cup encounter in recognition of Donny’s age. It states: “One minute applause tribute to Donny Strathie. Tartan Army footsoldier who died in Boston on Sunday, June 14. Share and spread the word: One minute applause tribute in the 76th minute of Scotland v Morocco. “Donny sadly passed away suddenly in Boston on Sunday aged 76. SpaceX valuation balloons to $2.6T, briefly passes Amazon

SpaceX briefly passed Amazon to become the fifth-most valuable company in the world, and nearly eclipsed Microsoft, before the company’s shares pared back those gains before the market closed Tuesday. The newly public company’s stock had already climbed 20% on Monday — its first full day of trading. Tuesday’s news that SpaceX was acquiring AI coding company Cursor, along with the start of options trading on SpaceX’s shares, sent the share price even higher, spiking its valuation to $2.9 trillion before it ultimately settled back down. This is all despite the fact that SpaceX posted a $4.9 billion loss on $18.7 billion in revenue last year, compared to Amazon, which turned a $78 billion profit in 2025 on $717 billion in sales in 2025. SpaceX has recently added new revenue streams in the form of compute leasing deals with Anthropic and Google, though, and will absorb the revenue from Cursor when that deal closes in the third quarter. The Anthropic and Google deals are non-binding, but investors don’t seem to mind either way. Elon Musk’s …

IAEA Board Passes Resolution Demanding Iran Report Uranium Stocks

IAEA Board Passes Resolution Demanding Iran Report Uranium Stocks

VIENNA, June 10 (Reuters) – The U.N. nuclear watchdog’s 35-nation Board of Governors passed a U.S.-backed resolution on Wednesday telling Iran to declare its remaining enriched uranium stocks and let inspectors verify them, which could complicate Washington’s talks with Tehran. The move came within hours of the U.S. and Iran trading military strikes after U.S. President Donald Trump said Iran ‌had downed a U.S. Apache helicopter near ‌the Strait of Hormuz. Israeli and U.S. attacks last June destroyed or badly damaged Iranian uranium-enrichment plants but much of the enriched uranium they produced, including material close to weapons grade, is thought to have survived.  IRAN SAYS BOARD ‘WHITEWASHING’ US ATTACKS Iran still has not informed the International Atomic Energy Agency of the fate of that material, or let IAEA inspectors return to the bombed sites to check. The U.S. led the push for the resolution, but Iran has called it “whitewashing military aggression,” since inspectors had access before the strikes. The resolution text submitted by the U.S., Britain, France and Germany was passed with 21 votes …

New York Legislature Passes Data Center Moratorium

New York Legislature Passes Data Center Moratorium

Authored by Nicholas Zifcak via The Epoch Times, The New York state Legislature passed a one-year data center permit moratorium June 4 in the final days of the legislative session. If Gov. Kathy Hochul signs it into law, New York would be the first to enact a statewide moratorium. A data center in Tennessee. Courtesy of CleanSpark The legislation requires a pause on permitting while the state Department of Environmental Conservation conducts a comprehensive study on the impact of data centers on electricity, pollution, and water and land use. The law would apply to data centers that draw 20 megawatts or more of power at peak use. It would also require data centers to increasingly rely on non-carbon energy sources, using one-third renewables by 2030 and 90 percent by 2040. When asked on June 3 about the legislation during an unrelated event in Brooklyn, Hochul said she will consider the moratorium, and that “the status quo can’t continue.” Hochul said that if data centers are built in New York, she wants to ensure local communities …

Petition to undo Brexit and rejoin EU passes major milestone | Politics | News

Some Brits want to rejoin the EU (Image: Getty) A major petition to reverse Brexit and rejoin the EU has passed a major new milestone. Robert McMaster, a member of Berkshire for Europe, a local chapter of European Movement UK, created the online document, which now has garnered more than 110,000 supporters. At the time of writing, it has 110,641 signatures. It comes as a new poll revealed that most Britons do not want to undo Brexit powers. Almost 60% of adults would be unwilling to accept fewer rule-making powers in exchange for greater access to the EU single market, a YouGov survey of more than 2,100 adults found. Mr McMaster wrote: “10 years after the Brexit vote and 6 years since the UK left the EU, it has become clear that Brexit has failed and that the UK public no longer supports leaving the EU, with a clear majority wishing to return. Recent Government statements make it clear that it wishes the UK to have closer relations with the EU, but nothing comes close …

Chip Somodevilla | Getty Images The U.S. Senate handed President Donald Trump a victory early Friday morning, passing a bill that would provide the Department of Homeland Security with an additional $70 billion for immigration enforcement and sending it to the House of Representatives for final consideration. The Senate voted 52-47 to approve the legislation, with no support from Democrats and no provision to ban a $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund that could compensate Trump’s political allies for allegations that the government mistreated them. One Republican, Senator Lisa Murkowski, voted against the bill. Senate Republican Leader John Thune said the fund was a “settled issue,” citing acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s congressional testimony this week that the Department of Justice would not move forward with it, though Democrats have said his word was insufficient. Trump subsequently said he intended to nominate Blanche to lead the Justice Department — …

Scott Applewhite/AP hide caption toggle caption J. Scott Applewhite/AP WASHINGTON — The Senate passed legislation to fund President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement agencies early Friday morning, after weeks of delays and fierce backlash to an unrelated $1.776 billion settlement fund that threatened to derail the bill. Senators voted 52-47 for the $70 billion legislation to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol for the next three years, through the end of Trump’s term. The final vote came just before 5 a.m., after Republicans narrowly defeated multiple attempts by Democrats and Republicans to add language to the bill that would permanently ban Trump’s settlement fund for political allies who believe they have been politically persecuted. Republicans cleared a major hurdle overnight when they defeated an amendment proposed by one of their own members, Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy, that would have redirected payments from the settlement to members of law …

Senate passes immigration enforcement funding after clashes over ballroom, ‘anti-weaponization’ fund

The Senate voted early Friday morning to pass a $69.5 billion budget reconciliation package to fund immigration enforcement operations through 2029, overcoming the concerns of several Republicans who were upset the bill did not include language barring the Trump administration from creating a $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund to pay MAGA allies. The legislation passed 52-47,… Source link

House passes Ukraine aid bill in another GOP rebuke of Trump’s foreign policy

WASHINGTON — The House passed bipartisan legislation Thursday that would provide new aid to Ukraine and impose sanctions against Russia, largely clashing with the Trump administration’s approach to the war. The 226-195 vote included support from 18 Republicans, who joined all but one Democrat in approving the measure. The Ukraine Support Act, sponsored by Rep. Gregory Meeks of New York, the top Democrat on the Foreign Affairs Committee, came to the House floor after enough Republicans crossed the aisle to side with Democrats and circumvent GOP leadership, which had prevented a vote on the legislation. The bill would authorize $8 billion in loans to Ukraine and NATO allies under the Foreign Military Financing program, as well as more than $1 billion in other funds for Ukraine, Baltic security and Radio Free Europe. The bill now heads to the Senate, where it faces a steeper uphill climb with Republicans. If it is passed, it would then need to be signed by …
