Agent authorization is broken — and authentication passing makes it worse

Agent authorization is broken — and authentication passing makes it worse

Anthony Grieco, Cisco’s SVP and chief security and trust officer, did not hesitate when VentureBeat asked whether rogue agent incidents are reaching Cisco’s customer base. “A hundred percent. We see them regularly,” Grieco told VentureBeat in an exclusive interview at RSAC 2026. “I’ve heard some that I can’t repeat, but they do get to the places of, you know, agents are doing things that they think are the right things to do.” The incidents Grieco described follow a consistent pattern: authentication passes, identity checks clear. The agent is exactly who it claims to be. Then it accesses data it was never scoped to touch or takes an action nobody authorized at that level of granularity. The failure is not identity; it’s authorization. “The business is saying things like, we’re gonna have 500 agents per employee,” Grieco told VentureBeat. “The security leaders are really focused on how to make sure that we do that securely.” Cisco’s State of AI Security 2026 report found that 83% of organizations planned to deploy agentic capabilities, but only 29% felt …

Elon Musk Had ‘Hair-Raising’ Idea of Passing OpenAI Onto His Kids, Sam Altman Says

Elon Musk Had ‘Hair-Raising’ Idea of Passing OpenAI Onto His Kids, Sam Altman Says

Sam Altman took to the witness stand to defend his reputation in the Musk v. Altman trial on Tuesday, as Elon Musk’s lawyers peppered the OpenAI CEO with hours of questions regarding his alleged history of deceptive behavior. The cross examination was a much needed win for Musk, who has so far struggled to make a convincing case. Tuesday’s testimony included several heated exchanges in which the OpenAI CEO had to respond to allegations from former colleagues suggesting he’s untrustworthy. Highlighting this evidence is not only important for Musk winning over a jury, but also for beating OpenAI in the court of public opinion. Days before the trial started, Musk texted OpenAI President Greg Brockman and told him that he and Altman would soon “be the most hated men in America.” Musk’s lawsuit accuses Altman of effectively stealing the OpenAI charity, and taking the $38 million Musk donated to the non-profit organization and using it to create a for-profit business worth more than $850 billion. However, there was little evidence on Tuesday to address the …

The House | How Austerity-Hit Councils Are Passing The Buck – At The Expense Of The Most Vulnerable

The House | How Austerity-Hit Councils Are Passing The Buck – At The Expense Of The Most Vulnerable

Illustration by Tracy Worrall 14 min read1 hr From schools to social care, healthcare to housing, local councils have arguably been the biggest victims of all the funding cuts we’ve seen over the last two decades. Chaminda Jayanetti reports on how they have been left in a tug of war with other state bodies over who funds the state provision needs of the most vulnerable in society With public sector budgets having never truly recovered from the austerity cuts of the early 2010s, a growing dynamic in English public services is different organisations trying to push costs onto one another so they don’t have to pay up themselves. At the epicentre of this are councils, arguably the biggest victims of austerity when funding cuts are set against rising demand. Local authorities are engaged in constant battles with other state entities – and indeed sometimes internally, in a kind of budgetary civil war – over who has to fund which needs, some of which are statutory requirements. And often, it’s members of the public …

Nicole Kidman on Becoming a Death Doula, ‘Harrowing’ Passing of Mother

Nicole Kidman says she’s seen the public response to her training to become a death doula, but she finds the act of supporting people and their families in their final moments together “beautiful” and “very important to me.” “I did this talk recently where I said I’m expanding into learning to be a death doula, which seemed to have people confused or intrigued,” the actress and producer told a Philadelphia audience at the Marian Anderson Hall at the Kimmel Center on Saturday as part of HISTORYTalks 2026, a live speaker series produced by The History Channel.  After describing wanting to help people and families be present and navigate their final moments together, she described the work of a death doula as “really fascinating. It’s very beautiful, and you have to be a certain personality to be able to do it. But I found out that I’m actually that personality. It’s very important to me. There is always suffering, but if there are people there who can help with that, help those final stages be less …

Artemis astronauts describe ‘otherworldly’ incident passing behind Moon

The Artemis II astronauts who recently returned from the far side of the Moon have described their “otherworldly” experience during the record-breaking mission. Speaking at their first news conference since returning home last Friday, the four-person crew revealed they experienced a multitude of overwhelming emotions during the nine-day mission, which took them further from Earth than any human has ever travelled. One profound instance, as told by mission commander Reid Wiseman, occurred during a solar eclipse that only they could see as the Moon passed between their spacecraft and the Sun. “It’s very hard to fully grasp what we just went through,” mission commander Wiseman said. “When the Sun eclipsed behind the Moon… I turned to [Artemis II pilot] Victor and said, ‘I don’t think humanity has evolved to the point of being able to comprehend what we’re looking at right now’.” He added: “It was otherworldly, and it was amazing.” The Moon is backlit by the Sun during a solar eclipse on 6 April, 2026, as seen from the Orion spacecraft (NASA) The Artemis …
