Cadillac Gets and Then Loses Elusive 1st Point in F1 as Sergio Pérez Penalized

MONACO (AP) — Cadillac’s team principal hailed an “incredible testament to the resolve of the team” as Formula 1’s newest constructor came close to an elusive first point, only to lose it to a penalty. Sergio Pérez finished strongly at the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday to cross the line in 10th but was bumped down to 15th after the race when he was ruled to have false-started when the race resumed after an earlier suspension. Pérez had a wheel outside his grid box at the restart, his second false start of the race after lining up in the wrong spot at the original race start. “To finish 10th on the road is an incredible testament to the resolve of the team to keep fighting until the end,” team principal Graeme Lowdon said in a statement. “After the red flag restart, Checo (Pérez) drove fantastically well to make up several positions on the road — it was a real shame that the penalty dropped us back as he fought like he was going for the …

Farewell to Maddy Perez, Euphoria’s complicated Latina baddie

Farewell to Maddy Perez, Euphoria’s complicated Latina baddie

It was the summer of 2019, and HBO’s new gritty teen drama was everywhere. Love it or hate it, “Euphoria” was unavoidable, and everything from its soon-to-be megastars to the clothes, makeup and overall aesthetic of its neon-lit universe was seeping out from the confines of the screen and into the real world. And at the center of this vibe shift, with raven-black hair and eyeliner as razor-sharp as her comebacks, was Mexican American actor Alexa Demie as Maddy Perez. On paper, Maddy shouldn’t have been a particularly remarkable character. How often have we seen the popular high school cheerleader navigate a toxic relationship with the school’s hot jock? And how routinely have we seen a Latina relegated to the background, or sidelined once she’s fulfilled her role as a foil — the temptress, the toxic girlfriend, the temperamental best friend — for the blonder, whiter characters onscreen to “overcome” as they replace her in the spotlight? Make no mistake: Maddy was a foil. In a show built around characters who fought to obscure nearly …

Elle Peréz Gets Personal with Next-Gen Collectors Changing Art World

Elle Peréz Gets Personal with Next-Gen Collectors Changing Art World

Congratulations on tonight! Diane Severin Nguyen’s commissioned piece looks great. What was it like to put this year’s party together? I’ve been one of the three co-chairs of the YCC this year, but I’ve been in the group for probably six years, and I’ve seen it really develop. I think this party, especially the partnership with LG Spotlit and with artists working in the digital space, has been so unique. And I’m such a mega fan of Diane. I think she did a fantastic job. The way that the music, the artist, the award, the whole aesthetics of the evening all came together is so seamless. Obviously, the party is a big deal. But what happens during the rest of the year with the YCC? We meet as a group twice a year, in the spring and fall. We make serious acquisitions and decide and vote on artists who enter the collection. It’s such a cool, transparent process: we attend a presentation from the curators, and often, we’ll have a studio visit with an artist …

Perez Hilton Says He Saw God After Being Hospitalized For 3 Weeks

Perez Hilton Says He Saw God After Being Hospitalized For 3 Weeks

Perez Hilton has dropped the “most important video that I’ve ever shared.” The celebrity gossip blogger took to his Instagram on Monday to share an update on his health after being hospitalized for three weeks, as well as how “God presented himself to me” amid the challenging experience. “My stupidity landed me in the hospital for 21 days, and it was the worst and best thing that’s ever happened to me,” he began in the lengthy video (below). Before being hospitalized, Hilton said he was battling the flu for a week. However, he was taking all of his medication without food, even though he was supposed to. That’s when he “developed an ulcer, and then a perforation, and then Sepsis,” he recounted. “The day before I was hospitalized, I was in so much stomach pain. I was like, ‘This is weird, but it’ll go away.’ The next morning, I couldn’t walk. I had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital.” Hilton said he underwent several tests, including X-rays, CT scans and ultrasounds, because the …

Taylor Zakhar Perez on ‘Red, White & Royal Wedding,’ Watching ‘Heated Rivalry,’ and His New Lacoste Campaign

Courtesy of Lacoste How has the response been for you, personally? I feel like it’s my friends or my agent or just people that send me like, “Oh, my God, look at this, look at that.” And it makes me laugh because I’m proud of what we made, but I guess when it’s out there and the job is done, it’s a little, I don’t know, weird to just keep hearing people talk about you. In this latest campaign, you’re dancing in a locker room. It’s fun. Especially the Flashdance moment with your legs pumping. Did you improvise or did you have a choreographer? I requested a movement director that would be with us and kind of keep me out of my head because we had so many elements. It was a two-day shoot. We had a film day and a video day, and we were in this small room. When I found out that the room was the size of a bathroom and there were going to be 15 people all hovering around, I …

Pérez Art Museum Miami Director Calls Florida Arts Budget Cuts ‘Sad’

Pérez Art Museum Miami Director Calls Florida Arts Budget Cuts ‘Sad’

As Art Basel kicks off this year in Miami Beach, Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) director Franklin Sirmans reflected on the last 10 years at the helm of the institution in an interview with the New York Times. Though PAMM has remained steady, with the help of Sirmans’ leadership and the museum’s primary patron Jorge M. Pérez, many institutions have faced tremendous hardship and losses over the last decade. “We have proved to be the people’s museum in Miami, in a place that has been much more well known for its private collections,” Sirmans told the Times. Related Articles “I’m proud that we’ve doubled the endowment,” he continued. “We’re about to triple it. But I’m also really proud about the way that it’s happened. Around 10 percent of the endowment right now has come through the Fund for Black Art. We decided not to just spend down money that was given by Jorge Pérez and the Knight Foundation. We turned it into an endowed fund and are only spending the proceeds of the interest.” The fruits of …
