Anthropic takes B from Amazon and pledges 0B in cloud spending in return

Anthropic takes $5B from Amazon and pledges $100B in cloud spending in return

Anthropic announced on Monday that Amazon has agreed to invest a fresh $5 billion, bringing Amazon’s total investment in the company to $13 billion. Anthropic, for its part, has agreed to spend over $100 billion on AWS over the next 10 years, obtaining up to 5 GW of new computing capacity to train and run Claude. The deal echoes an agreement Amazon struck with OpenAI just two months ago, when it joined a $110 billion funding round — contributing $50 billion — that valued the ChatGPT maker at a $730 billion pre-money valuation. That deal, too, was structured partly as cloud infrastructure services rather than straight cash. At the heart of this deal is Amazon’s custom chips: Graviton (a low-power CPU) and Trainium (an Nvidia competitor and AI accelerator chip). The Anthropic deal specifically covers Trainium2 through Trainium4 chips, even though Trainium4 chips are not currently available. The latest chip, Trainium3, was released in December. On top of that, Anthropic has secured the option to buy capacity on future Amazon chips as they become available. …

Fed Chief Nominee Warsh Pledges New Divestment in Updated Financial Filing

April 20 (Reuters) – Federal Reserve Chair nominee Kevin Warsh has pledged to divest from a foreign-oriented investment fund if confirmed to lead the U.S. central bank, according to an updated financial disclosure filing. In a filing dated April ‌17 that amended an original ‌filing on April 10, Warsh told the Fed’s ethics officer, “I will divest my interests in iShares S&P/TSX 60 Index (XIU)” if confirmed to succeed Fed Chair Jerome Powell in the central bank’s top job. Warsh, a financier and former Fed governor, said he would make this move because “agency ethics officials have since advised me that the duties of my position will involve particular matters affecting the financial interests of the underlying holding” in the fund. The fund that Warsh says he will divest from targets Canadian equities. Current Fed rules governing what investments policymakers and their immediate family members can hold limit exposure to foreign investments, among a broad range of other rules banning certain types of investments and how affected central bankers can manage their holdings. Watch: Vance Pledges Probe Into Epstein ‘Pizza’ And ‘Grape Soda’ References

Authored by Steve Watson via Modernity.news, Vice President JD Vance has publicly committed to investigating references in the Jeffrey Epstein files that he says evoked the Pizzagate conspiracy theory, citing emails mentioning “pizzas or grape sodas” in odd contexts. His remarks come as Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche doubled down on the Department of Justice’s position that every relevant document has already been released, leaving critics to question whether the full truth about Epstein’s network will ever see daylight. In remarks at a Turning Point USA event, Vance described reviewing the files and encountering an email that stood out. La Marxista: Mamdani Pledges To Open First City-Run Store With Projected Million Initial Cost

La Marxista: Mamdani Pledges To Open First City-Run Store With Projected $30 Million Initial Cost

Authored by Jonathan Turley, Mayor Zohran Mamdani used his “First 100 Days” speech this week to announce that he has kept his promise to create a chain of city-run stores . . . by pledging to open one store sometime “next year.” According to the New York Post, the city is planning to make an East Harlem location the first store at a cost of $30 million. It will be located in La Marqueta near Park Avenue. It is not clear if La Marqueta will  be renamed La Marxista, but it will follow a long line of failed state-operated and city-operated stores. Chicago’s mayor, Brandon Johnson, also pledged such city-run stores. It is notable that the stores received such emphasis by Mamdani. It is not difficult to set up a grocery store, particularly when you run the city that approves permits and compliance conditions. It is not even difficult to set up a money-losing store as long as you have a city budget to pay for it. It is far more difficult to set up an independently …
