Zack Polanski has a bizarre ‘personal appeal’ – one surprising number proves it | Politics | News

Zack Polanski has led the Green to polling success (Image: Getty) Whatever happened to Jeremy Corbyn’s supporters? There was a time when they turned out in droves to hear the Lefty ex-Labour leader speak, chanting his name and dreaming of a better tomorrow. It nearly made him prime minister. Close to 13million people voted Labour in 2017, when Mr Corbyn was in charge, while just 9.7million backed Labour in the 2024 General Election that put Sir Keir into No 10. So it’s a little surprising that Mr Corbyn’s new party, the bizarrely named Your Party, has made little impact. Instead, Left-wingers, including many former Corbynites, are backing the Green Party, led by the charismatic Zack Polanski. Examples include Jennie Formby, the former general secretary of the Labour Party in the Corbyn era, who recently announced she was defecting to the Greens. Another high-profile convert is feisty journalist Owen Jones, once Mr Corbyn’s staunchest defender in the media and now a Polanski fan. They’re just the tip of the iceberg. The Green Party won 6.7% of …

Politics Home Article | Polanski Says Greens Should Be Braced For Candidate Vetting Problems

(Alamy) 4 min read1 hr Zack Polanski has acknowledged that the Greens may face issues when it comes to vetting candidates due to the speed of the party’s growth. Speaking to PoliticsHome at the party’s local elections campaign launch on Thursday, Polanski said that the party was dealing with an “immense amount of people very quickly” in its bid to field candidates in Scotland, Wales and council areas across England next month, adding: “I won’t be surprised if we have the odd candidate where we have to distance from them.” The Greens launched their local elections campaign in London, where the party is expected to make significant gains next month, particularly at the expense of Keir Starmer’s Labour. After dealing a seismic electoral blow to Labour by winning the Gorton and Denton by-election in February, the Greens are hopeful of seizing control of Lambeth, Islington, Southwark and Hackney councils when voters go to the polls on Thursday, 7 May. The Greens have surged in the opinion polls since Polanski became leader in September, and now the party is tasked with finding people …

Zack Polanski in furious row with journalist who says ‘your family are disgusted!’ | Politics | News

Polanski hit out at media coverage of him (Image: Getty) Green Party leader Zack Polanski’s family are “disgusted” with him due to “the Jew hate” in his party, it has been claimed. Journalist Nicole Lampert made the claims on X after Mr Polanski attacked her for a piece she wrote for The Daily Mail, which saw her speak to estranged family members of the former Liberal Democrat. The piece purports to have spoken to three family members of Mr Polanski who suggested he had placed his political ambition above his loyalty to his community and roots. It comes as the party is set to declare Zionism as racism at its spring conference on Saturday. Under the motion, which will be voted on by members, the Greens would become an explicitly anti-Zionist party, reject key definitions of anti-Semitism that equate anti-Zionism with Jew-hatred, impose sanctions on Israel and endorse “resistance and liberation from Israeli occupation” – language critics say effectively backs Hamas attacks. Polanski to warn Starmer ‘hasn’t done enough’ to protect energy customers from bill hikes | Politics News

Polanski to warn Starmer ‘hasn’t done enough’ to protect energy customers from bill hikes | Politics News

Zack Polanski is set to call on Sir Keir Starmer to step in and protect energy price cap customers from steep bill rises at the start of July. Sky News understands the Green Party leader is about to pile further pressure on the prime minister, who has so far dismissed calls to make any more immediate financial decisions as the crisis in Iran continues. Mr Polanski is expected to add to the calls for the prime minister to do more as part of his first major intervention on the economy since becoming the party’s leader. In it, he’ll try to position the Greens as a party credible on fiscal policy. He’s expected to urge the government to set aside £8.4bn to cover potentially stark energy bill rises once the new price cap ends in June. He’ll suggest the government should “tighten up” the windfall tax on energy companies in a bid to claw back any “excess profiteering” from the war in the Middle East, while he’ll push the chancellor to further raise taxes on the …

The House | Zack Polanski: “There’s A Lot Of Inauthenticity In Politics, But It’s Not Coming From Me”

The Greens’ unquestionable triumph in Manchester and corresponding jump in the national polls have been quickly overshadowed, however, by events abroad as Israel and the US launched attacks on Iran. Polanski’s deputy, Mothin Ali, reacted to the strikes by joining a protest that critics characterised as supportive of the Iranian regime but the Greens describe simply as anti-war. “I can’t guarantee that I’ve never been on a march where someone hasn’t said something I disagree with,” the leader says, confirming that he would attend these protests himself, even though attendees were flying pro-regime flags and mourning Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. “It’s cynical when people seek …

Politics Home | Trump Is No Ally Of Britain – He Is A Threat Like Putin, Says Zack Polanski

President Putin and President Trump meet for talks on Ukraine, August 2025 (Alamy Live News) 4 min read2 hr Zack Polanski has declared that Donald Trump cannot be an ally of Britain, and the UK can no longer have a “special relationship” with the US, because its President is a “real threat” in the same mould as Vladimir Putin. Speaking in the wake of strikes by the US and Israel on Iran that have killed Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei among others, the Green Party leader described Russia as “looking to advance its imperialism”, before adding: “I believe the same behaviour is coming from the United States.” In an exclusive interview with The House magazine, Polanski said the UK must realise “what a threat Donald Trump is, how unpredictable he is, and ultimately the only thing he cares about is Donald Trump – and that’s not someone that can be our ally, or we can be in a special relationship with”. He argued that Britain should be working with European countries such …

Greens’ stunning by-election win proves Polanski surge is real – but what now for Starmer? | Politics News

At the wedding venue in Gorton and Denton the Green Party chose for the news conference to mark a seismic by-election victory on national television, it was clear that Zack Polanski and his team were new to all of this. There was a sea of empty chairs and but a smattering of supporters in a huge, near-deserted room. Seasoned operators – be it Nigel Farage, Sir Keir Starmer or Ed Davey – would have had the placards lifted and the activists cheering, but Polanski and his new MP, Hannah Spencer, enjoyed just a smattering of applause as they took to the stage. Politics latest: Police confirm report made over ‘family voting’ claims Image: Zack Polanski and Hannah Spencer. Pic: PA But, make no mistake, if the celebration was muted in the moment, the implications of the result are absolutely mega. The Green Party went from third in this seat at the 2024 General Election to winning by 4,400 votes over Reform UK, and overturning Labour’s 13,000 majority with a whopping 26 percentage point swing. It …

‘Am I at peak popularity? I hope not’: on the road with Zack Polanski, from protest to podcast to Heaven nightclub | Zack Polanski

WAKEFIELD 17 JANUARY 2026 “I’m dying for a wee,” Zack Polanski says as he gets off the train at Wakefield Westgate. Why didn’t you go on the train, I ask? “It was very busy and too many people recognised me on the way to the toilet. I knew I’d never get there for all the conversations, so I came back.” When did it become hard for him to go to the toilet on a train? “2 September,” he says. “The day I was elected.” At first, I wonder if Polanski is bigging himself up, but over the next couple of weeks I see for myself he is not exaggerating. While Polanski says it’s not, and cannot be, about one individual, in Green circles there is much talk of the Polanski effect. Since he was elected in September 2025, the Greens have risen by an average of four points in the polls. Just before going to press, the Guardian’s latest poll tracker had the party at 13.5%, only five points behind Labour, on 18.6%; 20% of …
