South Park fans are all in agreement after Season 29 premiere episode

The season kick off comes days after creators mocked Donald Trump’s recent attempts to rename various geographical locations by announcing that their show will be renamed South America. Despite the fact that the show’s name (and location) change were a jab at Trump, the season premiere was less overtly political than most episodes from season 28. Focusing mostly on the arrival of e-bikes in South America, the episode didn’t include Trump or even many references to him. Instead, the adult cartoon appeared to return to its roots by killing off Kenny (again). Kenny has died more than 100 times throughout the show’s history in a recurring classic gag. Viewers who tuned into the premiere episode were pleasantly surprised, all agreeing that the “old” …

The season got off to a rocky start when technical difficulties forced ABC to disregard all votes cast online during night one of the premiere. Only text message votes were counted. Despite the glitch, the season’s first elimination went ahead as planned. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Conner Leavitt and new pro dancer Adele Zaikman were sent packing after receiving one of the lowest scores from the judges and not enough viewer votes. Scores from returning judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli were encouraging, if on the lower side. But co-hosts Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro did remind viewers that the judges tend to score dances low at …

‘Jaÿ-Z in 8’ Premiere Party Report

‘Jaÿ-Z in 8’ Premiere Party Report

Premiering on HBO on September 18, the show’s first two episodes deliver on the promise of unprecedented access to a particularly introspective Jaÿ-Z. A barefoot Rubin stands in for the audience as Jaÿ-Z goes lyric by lyric—sometimes word by word—through songs from his catalog, including “Can’t Knock the Hustle,” “Brooklyn’s Finest,” “4:44,” “99 Problems,” “The Story of O.J.,” “Family Feud,” and “Legacy.” The pair goes deep on Jaÿ-Z’s life, digging into his childhood growing up in the Marcy Houses; his relationship with his mother, Gloria Carter; and even 4:44, his album detailing a rocky patch in his marriage to Beyoncé. After the screening, the party continued for those lucky enough to have a blue sticker on their ticket. (A blue sticker for Jaÿ-Z and Beyoncé’s eldest daughter, Blue Ivy, perhaps?) Inside the private after-party, model Winnie Harlow graciously posed for photos with NYPD officers who were working the event. By this point, the 20-piece orchestra had been replaced by a single DJ. A solo, smiling Jaÿ-Z sipped Champagne by the DJ booth and greeted scores …

’60 Minutes’ Season Premiere Suggests a Limited Bari Weiss Effect

’60 Minutes’ Season Premiere Suggests a Limited Bari Weiss Effect

There have been months of controversy, outrage and general conversation regarding alterations to CBS’ 60 Minutes franchise under new CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss. But the venerable newsmagazine returned Sunday night to start its 59th season with a premiere that will probably offer very, very limited confirmation to both the pessimistic and optimistic biases espoused by pundits on the left and right. I’m supposed to want to rend my garments over changes to 60 Minutes because I have an earnest belief that Weiss’ tenure at CBS News has rendered the nightly news broadcast and its overall coverage unwatchable; because every quote from new executive producer Nick Bilton has been glib and disheartening; and because circumstances surrounding the departure of respected on-air talent, particularly Scott Pelley, were handled with, at best, a lack of respect and little regard for professional optics. The reality is that the 99.999 percent of 60 Minutes viewers who watched the show because they were too lazy to change the channel after CBS’ late NFL game ended, who watched out of tradition …

Nick Bilton, Bari Weiss Send 60 Minutes Staff Memo Ahead of Premiere

Nick Bilton, Bari Weiss Send 60 Minutes Staff Memo Ahead of Premiere

CBS News and 60 Minutes leaders sent a memo to staff to “congratulate the team on the launch of what will be an exciting season” ahead of the season 59 premiere on Sunday evening. In the email sent Sunday morning and obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, 60 Minutes executive producer Nick Bilton, CBS News Editor-in-chief Bari Weiss and Tom Cibrowski, president and executive editor of CBS News, wanted to take a moment to thank “everyone across CBS News for the support over this summer.” This memo comes after 60 Minutes experienced a major staff overhaul and leadership shake-up in recent months, led by Weiss. Last year, Weiss was appointed by David Ellison, the current owner of CBS after his Skydance Media acquired Paramount Global, to oversee the editorial direction of CBS News. Under her leadership, the long-running show has seen an exodus of talent, both voluntary departures and forced ones, including former managing editor Guy Campanile, former executive producer Tanya Simon and correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi, Cecilia Vega and Scott Pelley. Most recently, Campanile broke his …

Inside Jeremy O. Harris’s Uber-Stylish ‘Rager’ of a Venice Film Festival Premiere

A few days ahead of the premiere, Harris and Tera were spending plenty of time with their film’s young cast, some of whom had never left Okinawa before. “Our star, Naoto [Shimajiri], was standing at the airport in front of a guy who had a sign with his name on it, and he had no idea that it was for him,” Harris says. “He thought we would be there to pick him up.” Despite that greenness, Harris and Tera had already seen flashes of readiness for the spotlight in their actors—particularly during a fitting for the Maison Margiela looks they’d all be wearing at the festival. “Once they put on the clothes, it was so cool to see how quickly they were able to ease into being movie stars,” Harris says. “There was no hesitation. It was like all of a sudden I saw Yuma [Taira] just putting her hands like this and standing on the carpet already in her head.” Tera says that Margiela (whose team he also first met through GQ Japan) felt …

‘P-Valley’ Ending with Season 3 on Starz, Sets Premiere Date

‘P-Valley’ Ending with Season 3 on Starz, Sets Premiere Date

Starz will make one final trip to P-Valley. The streaming and cable outlet has set a Dec. 4 premiere date for the critically acclaimed Lionsgate TV series’ third season — and also announced that the coming season will be the last one for P-Valley. When the nine-episode season premieres, it will have been more than four years since the show’s second season concluded (in August 2022). Season three was put on hold during the 2023 strikes, but filming had begun by May 2024. The final season of creator and showrunner Katori Hall‘s drama will find the dancers and staff at The Pynk dealing with the opening of a casino in their town of Chucalissa, Mississippi, and the realization that, as the season’s logline puts it, “mo’ money does indeed bring mo’ mayhem. Dreamers, schemers, ballers, and shot-callers alike come from far and wide for a dance with chance — but are they willing to put their souls on the line for a legendary bag?” Starz also released a teaser for the final season, which is …
