Ninja’s New Chopper Is Like Nothing I’ve Tested (Just Don’t Call It a Food Processor)

European Processor Initiative: Project concluded

European Processor Initiative: Project concluded

Following the conclusion of the project, the European Processor Initiative outlines its advancements in sovereign chip technology for supercomputing and artificial intelligence (AI) during a final review in Luxembourg. The European Processor Initiative, a project of 27 partners, funded by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland, concluded successfully four months ago, and has now undergone the final review in Luxembourg. After four years of the SGA2 project phase, the representatives of the partners presented their work to the reviewers and EuroHPC JU staff. In addition to the standard project review process, this one also had a special item on the schedule. The review was a special opportunity for the project consortium to showcase the results of their work – especially in the context of two processor families that were being developed – the Arm-based GPP brought up by SiPearl, and the European processor accelerator – EPAC – at the review. This is why the review also organised two types of demonstrations for the reviewers and …

Garmin Fenix 9 Leaks: Solar AMOLED and Next-Gen Processor

The Garmin Fenix 9 is shaping up to be a highly anticipated addition to the outdoor smartwatch market, with rumors pointing to significant advancements in both functionality and design. According to TechAvid, one standout feature could be the introduction of a “muscle battery” function, using SMO2 (muscle oxygen saturation) monitoring to deliver real-time insights into muscle activity during physical exertion. This level of biometric tracking could help users identify fatigue zones and optimize recovery, making it particularly appealing to athletes and outdoor enthusiasts aiming to fine-tune their performance. Dive into this breakdown to explore how the Fenix 9 might elevate navigation with a rumored tri-band GNSS system, offering satellite positioning accuracy within 50 centimeters. You’ll also gain insight into the potential benefits of the hybrid solar-over-AMOLED display, which could combine vivid visuals with extended battery life for multi-day adventures. Whether you’re interested in its enhanced processing power or off-grid communication capabilities, this guide unpacks the key features that could define Garmin’s next flagship wearable. European Processor Initiative finishes second stage

European Processor Initiative finishes second stage

As the EPI completes its second stage, it speaks to some of its project partners to find out more about the processors being developed by the project European Processor Initiative, a project of 27 partners from ten countries working on developing a low-power processor that will power European exascale supercomputers, finished last month, after two stages of a special Framework Partnership Agreement. Even though the official period of project duration is over, project stream leaders are still steering considerable IPs of consortium partners’ work towards final results. It started out as an initiative to help bring about European digital sovereignty after winning the FPA call from the largest funding programme for research and innovation in 2017, Horizon 2020. EPI consortium members aimed to develop a processor that would power supercomputers achieving exascale: a high-performance, low-power processor implementing vector instructions and specific accelerators with high-bandwidth memory access. The second stage started in 2022, with two processor families being developed under EPI: an Arm-based General-Purpose Processor (Rhea GPP) and the European accelerator (EPAC). The first one, Rhea1, …

Framework Passes Rising Memory and Processor Costs to Buyers, With a Twist

Framework Passes Rising Memory and Processor Costs to Buyers, With a Twist

The maker of fully modular laptops, Framework, is getting hit by a sharp increase in memory prices, and the numbers are pretty astounding. Its LPCAMM2 modules have nearly doubled: The 32GB jumped from $439 to $800, and the 64GB jumped from $849 to $1,600.  In a July 22 news post on navigating the volatile silicon market, Framework’s CEO Nirav Patel said that the cost hikes from the supplier go “far beyond anything we had predicted and anything we’re able to absorb without placing our ability to operate at real financial risk.”  In short, the memory market has become so volatile that Framework is passing on the higher costs to buyers rather than absorbing the losses itself. That part’s not surprising.  But in perhaps a less conventional twist, to manage the orders it already took for its Framework Laptop 13 Pro, the company is rejiggering some presold configurations rather than canceling them. That means when inventory runs out, it’s downsizing configurations on preordered models and adjusting the price. Or more concretely, for later preorder batches that …
