MrBeast’s ’Beast Games’ Voluntarily Recognizes IATSE Union

MrBeast, the YouTube superstar known for his challenge videos, has a new trial on his hands: negotiating a union contract with IATSE. The YouTuber’s Amazon Prime Video competition show Beast Games has voluntarily recognized an IATSE union and is negotiating a labor contract, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Negotiations are taking place after a group of crew members on the set of the show’s third season began organizing with the crew union. Filming is primarily taking place in the hometown of Mr Beast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson: Greenville, North Carolina. Beast Games, a spectacle of over-the-top competition, offers 1,000 contestants the chance to win a $5 million prize with other high-value prizes being doled out in the process. THR has reached out to MrBeast and Prime Video for comment. Lebanon resident recognizes family crucifix smashed by Israeli soldier in viral image

BEIRUT (AP) — Houssam Naddaf said no words could capture the shock of seeing an Israeli soldier smash a crucifix in his family’s private garden in the southern Lebanese village of Debel — an image he recognized instantly as it spread online. “I saw it on the internet like everyone else,” he said. Naddaf had not been able to go to the house in person to see the damage because of restrictions on movement imposed by Israeli forces in the area. Israeli forces took control of the area as part of the latest Israel-Hezbollah war, which began on March 2 when the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group fired a salvo of missiles over the border two days after the U.S. and Israel launched their war on Iran. Israel then launched a ground invasion of southern Lebanon and its forces have remained there despite the announcement of a truce last week. The images of the soldier swinging an ax into the fallen statue of Jesus on the cross in the southern Lebanese village of Debel had sparked …

Video Game Developer Heart Machine Voluntarily Recognizes Union

The indie video game studio Heart Machine has voluntarily recognized a union formed by staff members. The developer behind 2021’s Solar Ash and 2016’s Hyper Light Drifter agreed to recognize a wall-to-wall union representing all non-managerial employees, the Communications Workers of America announced on Monday. Previously, the union states, a majority of the workers at the studio signaled their interest in joining CWA. Thirteen employees are included in the bargaining unit, including animators, designers, gameplay engineers, environmental artists and a gameplay tools engineer. Heart Machine is based in L.A. and the union will be under the umbrella of Burbank-based CWA Local 9003. “I decided to get involved in organizing my studio because I’ve seen so many peers in the industry stand up to protect the craft we all care so deeply about. Watching that momentum grow made me realize that if we love this work, we have to protect it, especially now,” said gameplay tools engineer Steph Aligbe in a statement. “Our union is proud that our studio chose to voluntarily recognize our union and …

My Echo recognizes my face now and it’s the most useful Alexa feature I was ignoring

If you’re like me and have an Amazon Echo in nearly every room of your house (and if you do, make sure you’re taking advantage of having multiple Amazon Echos in your home), you know how great it is to have ambient AI in every room. If you happen to own one of the Echos that contains a camera, there’s a facial recognition feature called Visual ID that can recognize the face of everyone in your family (if you set it up right) so that Alexa can take action when it “sees” a certain member of your family or household. This is a very powerful feature that will make your smart home even smarter. How to set up Visual ID You’ll first have to do a facial scan Credit: Brandon Miniman / MakeUseOf The prerequisite here is that you must own an Echo that has a camera from 2021 and onward (you can see a full list of compatible devices on the Amazon Echo website), and it’s important to place the Echo in a central location …
