Apple Seeds Revised iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 Betas to Developers

Apple today seeded revised first betas of upcoming iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 updates to developers for testing purposes, with the software coming four days after Apple seeded the initial betas. Registered developers can download the betas from the Settings app on the iPhone or iPad by going to the General section and selecting Software Update. It’s not clear why Apple has seeded new beta updates, but there may be a bug fix that couldn’t wait for the second beta. iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 do not include new Siri capabilities, suggesting any ‌Siri‌ updates are being held until iOS 27. The Maps app has a Suggested Places feature for recommending locations to visit nearby based on trends and recent searches, plus Apple is laying the groundwork for ads. Apple is again testing end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for RCS messages between iPhone and Android users. Apple tested the feature in iOS 26.4, but removed it before the update launched. In the European Union, Apple is testing proximity pairing, notification forwarding, and Live Activities for third-party wearables …

It Was All A Mirage: 2.5 Million Native-Born US Workers Were Just Revised Away

It Was All A Mirage: 2.5 Million Native-Born US Workers Were Just Revised Away

One of Donald Trump’s core pre-election promises (along with cracking down on immigration and no more foreign wars) was to boost employment for local-born Americans at the expense of the record employment for foreign-born, mostly illegal, workers. And for a while it worked: four months ago, when discussing the September jobs report, we said that while the broader report was generally mixed, it was “indisputably strong when it comes to one thing: the rotation from foreign born workers to domestic ones. To wit: in September, the number of native-born workers surged by 676K (after the August drop of 561K), while foreign-born workers dropped by 70K.” The data showed that since Trump entered the White House “the number of foreign born workers has slumped from a record 33.7 million in March 2025 to 32.1 million, a drop of $1.6 million. This has been offset by a slow but consistent increase in native-born workers which had been unchanged for six years since 2019 until the start of 2025, at which point it started to rise again, and has …

Warner Bros Discovery Mulling Revised Paramount Bid for Company

Warner Bros. Discovery says that it is officially reviewing a sweetened bid for the company from David Ellison’s Paramount. The details of Paramount’s revised bid were not immediately known. The company had offered $30 per share, with a “ticker” that would raise the price for every quarter the deal had not closed past the end of this year. The company is still recommending that shareholders vote for the Netflix deal next month, as of now. “Following engagement with PSKY during the seven-day limited waiver period, we received a revised PSKY proposal to acquire WBD, which we are reviewing in consultation with our financial and legal advisors,” WBD’s board said in a statement Tuesday morning. “We will update our shareholders following the Board’s review. The Netflix merger agreement remains in effect, and the Board continues to recommend in favor of the Netflix transaction. WBD shareholders are advised not to take any action at this time with respect to the amended PSKY tender offer.” While previous bids from Paramount have been made public, this was the first …

In a letter to shareholders on Wednesday, Warner Bros’ board said Paramount’s offer hinges on “an extraordinary amount of debt financing” that heightens the risk of closing. It reaffirmed its commitment to streaming giant Netflix’s $82.7 billion deal for the film and television studio and other assets. Paramount and Netflix have been in a heated battle for Warner Bros, its prized film and television studios, and ‍its extensive content library.
