Islanders Fire Coach Patrick Roy After Losing 4 in a Row, Name Peter DeBoer His Replacement

NEW YORK (AP) — Patrick Roy was fired as coach of the New York Islanders on Sunday, another late-season change in the NHL that comes with the team in the middle of a spring tailspin that has put its playoff chances in jeopardy. Getting outshot 40-16 and losing 4-3 at division-leading Carolina on Saturday night in another must-win game was the final straw for Darche, who took over last summer and decided at the time to keep Roy behind the bench. This is not an interim move. DeBoer is taking the job full time. The 57-year-old is fresh off serving as an assistant on coach Jon Cooper’s Canada’s staff at the Milan Cortina Olympics, serving as an advanced scout and helping a talented group reach the final before losing to the U.S. in overtime. “More of preparation was just when everybody arrived here and you’ve got basically three days to prepare, that a lot of the grunt work is done,” DeBoer said in Milan. “I was involved in the scouting selection process. That was totally …

If Your Job Is Draining The Life Out Of You, These 6 Burnout Triggers Might Be Why | Brent Roy

If your job is draining the life out of you, you’re not imagining it, and you’re definitely not alone. Burnout at work builds slowly, shaped by everyday stress, unrealistic expectations, and a work environment that asks more than it gives back. Most burnout isn’t from being bad at your job or not trying hard enough. Usually, it’s about deeper workplace issues that unravel you over time. Research shows there are a handful of common triggers that show up again and again, and once you recognize them, it becomes a lot easier to understand why you feel so exhausted, detached, or stuck. Cluely CEO Roy Lee admits to publicly lying about revenue numbers last year

Cluely CEO Roy Lee admits to publicly lying about revenue numbers last year

The $7 million in annual recurring revenue that Cluely co-founder and CEO Roy Lee shared with TechCrunch last summer was a lie, Lee admitted on Thursday on X. Wrote Lee, this “is the only blatantly dishonest thing i’ve said publicly online, so this is my formal retraction.” Yet his post on X also misrepresents the backstory of how and why he told TechCrunch his ARR in the first place. Lee says in that same post that he “got a random cold call from some woman asking about numbers and told her some bs, did not expect an article about it.” But that call occurred because Cluely’s public relations representative emailed TechCrunch and offered to make Lee available for a story. On Friday, Jun 27, 2025 at 8:38 a.m., Cluely’s PR person sent an email to TechCrunch reporter Marina Temkin that said, “I’d love to arrange an interview with Roy. Whether for a deeper dive into Cluely’s next phase or a fresh angle on his vision, we’d be happy to make it happen.” Temkin agreed. The PR …

Roy, who was due to attend a screening of a restored version of her 1989 film In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones, said she was “shocked and disgusted” by remarks made during a press conference at the festival’s opening on Thursday. When a reporter asked the jury members for their views on the German government’s “support of the genocide in Gaza” and the festival’s “selective treatment of human rights” issues by speaking out about Ukraine and Iran but not Palestine, Wenders, the chair of the seven-member jury, responded that filmmakers “have to stay out of politics”. In a statement, Roy called the comments “unconscionable” and said she had decided to withdraw “with deep regret”. “To hear them say …

Gagosian Opens 14th Roy Lichtenstein Show Ahead of Whitney Retrospective

This spring, Gagosian will open its 14th exhibition dedicated to Roy Lichtenstein. Titled “Painting with Scattered Brushstrokes,” the exhibition draws exclusively from the Lichtenstein family collection and will feature paintings, sculpture, watercolors, and works on paper from the 1970s and ’80s. Opening March 19 at the gallery’s 541 West 24th Street space, the show lands in the middle of a frenzied run of market activity for the late Pop artist, alongside a major Whitney Museum retrospective for Lichtenstein opening later this year. Related Articles Last April, Sotheby’s announced a consignment of more than 40 works from the artist’s family, estimated above $35 million. In September, it staged a dedicated single-owner sale of more than 90 works from the Dorothy and Roy Lichtenstein Collection. Then in November, as part of the house’s contemporary evening sale, it sold eight works from the collection, achieving $20.7 million and a 100 percent sell-through rate. In total, Sotheby’s sold nearly $150 million worth of art by Lichtenstein. The Gagosian show focuses on a motif that Lichtenstein would return to again …

Eanna Hardwicke on playing Roy Keane in Saipan: ‘He wasn’t afraid to p*** people off’

Eanna Hardwicke on playing Roy Keane in Saipan: ‘He wasn’t afraid to p*** people off’

The former Manchester United enforcer is an inescapable pundit these days. His trademark brand of withering takedowns – all in that distinctive Cork accent – is almost tailor-made for social media impressions. Lines like, “I might smash into somebody, just to make me feel better,” delivered after a particularly poor United performance, for instance. For Hardwicke, this presented a problem. The 29-year-old actor, who hails from the same neck of the woods as Keane, was preparing to play the footballer in a new film about the infamous Saipan incident that erupted ahead of the 2002 World Cup. “I kind of had to wean myself off it,” he says of …

Policies of Denial | Sara Roy, Max Nelson

On November 14 the Guardian reported, on the basis of internal military documents, that the United States was “planning for the long-term division of Gaza.” Reconstruction of the devastated territory, according to the report, would begin in the Israeli-controlled half of the Strip, east of the “yellow line,” which dozens of Palestinians have been killed for crossing since a cease-fire went into effect this past October. Last month CNN reported that on November 29 an Israeli drone had killed two children, eight and ten years old, who had crossed the line to gather firewood for their paralyzed father. “Quiet is not the absence of conflict,” Sara Roy wrote on October 25 in the NYR Online. “Nor is it peace.” In her essay Roy, an associate at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard, surveyed several of the most prominent plans for the “day after” in the Strip, among them Donald Trump’s twenty-point proposal, which was approved by the UN Security Council soon after. All of them, she concluded, “impose forms of governance that exclude …
