But if there’s one time you desperately need to slather yourself in SPF, it’s when there’s a literal heatwave happening. Just remember that you’re doing it for your future self, though, and all complaints will suddenly be out the window. Or, most likely, finding a formula that you really love will make putting it on feel like a meaningless task. 13 scalp barrier treatments that pave the way to healthy hair

13 scalp barrier treatments that pave the way to healthy hair

For years, the beauty conversation around barriers began and ended at the jawline. We’ve obsessed over ceramides, slugging and skin barrier repair while completely ignoring the fact that the scalp — the skin your hair actually grows from — has a barrier too, and most of us aren’t looking after it properly. Over-washing, dry shampoo overload, aggressive scrubbing, heat styling directly at the roots: habits that feel like maintenance are often the ones doing the most damage. What exactly is the scalp barrier? According to Dr Nora Jaafar, Dermatologist and Neutrogena T/Gel® Brand Ambassador, the skin barrier is defined as “the outer protective layer of the skin on the scalp, made up of skin cells, lipids and the microbiome: its job is to retain moisture while protecting against irritation, allergens and microbial imbalance.” When it’s functioning well, hair follicles work optimally, and scalp conditions remain calm and stable. When it’s not? Well, the signs speak for themselves. Signs your scalp barrier is compromised “The most common are itching, tightness, redness, flaking and increased sensitivity to …

Scientists Spot Two Planets That Collided, Resulting in Carnage That Will Send Prickles Through Your Scalp

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech Astronomers say they’ve spotted evidence of a cataclysmic collision between two distant planets.  In addition to sending a shiver up our spines, the resulting study published in the journal The Astrophysical Journal Letters could also provide new insight into the evolution of our own solar system — and perhaps even how the Earth got its Moon. The clues to this cosmic tragedy come from a main sequence star known as Gaia20ehk. It by all accounts seemed thoroughly ordinary, burning at a steady brightness like our Sun. That is, until it began flickering out of control.  “The star’s light output was nice and flat, but starting in 2016 it had these three dips in brightness. And then, right around 2021, it went completely bonkers,” said lead author Anastasios Tzanidakis, an astronomer at the University of Washington, in a statement about the work. “I can’t emphasize enough that stars like our Sun don’t do that,” he added. “So when we …

Dyson Supersonic Nural review: can a hair dryer really save your scalp from heat damage? | Hair care

Dyson Supersonic Nural review: can a hair dryer really save your scalp from heat damage? | Hair care

Tell most hair-care enthusiasts you want to upgrade your hair dryer, and I’d bet good money you’ll be asked, “Will you buy a Dyson?” That would have been a ludicrous question more than a decade ago when the brand specialised in vacuum cleaners, but not since it took the luxury hair-care market by storm in 2016 with its Supersonic hair dryer. The Guardian’s journalism is independent. We will earn a commission if you buy something through an affiliate link. Learn more. The Supersonic ripped up the hair-dryer rulebook, with its distinctive design, lightweight feel and quiet operation. Eight years after the original, Dyson launched the Supersonic Nural: an upgraded version with new tricks up its sleeve. Upgrading to one of the best hair dryers is still one of my top beauty tips: they’re better at controlling heat levels and dry hair faster. All the same, is there really any need to spend up to £400? Having put the Supersonic Nural hair dryer through its paces and compared it with 19 other hair dryers that I tested, …

HigherDose Red Light Hat Review: Scalp Savior (2026)

HigherDose Red Light Hat Review: Scalp Savior (2026)

It’s similar to how red-light face masks work. These masks are usually worn for about 10 minutes and always have a light wavelength level in the 600-nm range (usually 630 to 660), like the HigherDose hat does, but you’ll also see masks with higher infrared-light levels that promise healing and reduced inflammation. The hat delivers only the main red-light therapy level and features 120 medical-grade LED bulbs arranged in a half circle for easy wear around your head. The technology is FDA-cleared, meaning the FDA has determined that this device is substantially equivalent to an existing legally marketed device. HigherDose specifically states that the hat uses “FDA-cleared technology known to stimulate hair growth and improve scalp health,” but this is not the same as FDA-approved, which goes under much more rigorous testing. FDA-cleared is the only status we’ve really seen with red-light devices, though, and it’s the same status you’ll see on our red-light mask recommendations. The Amount Google’s AI Knows About You Will Cause an Uncomfortable Prickling Sensation on Your Scalp

But it’s another thing to actually be confronted with just how much data they have on you. This was the experience of tech journalist Pranav Dixit, who experimented with using Google’s new “Personal Intelligence” feature for Gemini and its search engine’s AI Mode. And boy, did things get personal. The AI was able to dig up everything from his license plate to his parents’ vacation history, sometimes without it being directly requested. “Personal Intelligence feels like Google has been quietly taking notes on my entire life and finally decided to hand me the notebook,” Dixit wrote in a piece for Business Insider. Google rolled out Personal Intelligence to subscribers of Google AI Pro and AI Ultra last week. Once you opt in, the AI can scour your Gmail and Google Photos accounts, and a more powerful version released for the Gemini app earlier this month goes even deeper, raking your Search and …
