Uber and Wayve Launch London’s First Public Robotaxi Service

Uber and Wayve Launch London’s First Public Robotaxi Service

London’s first public robotaxi service is now live. Starting today, UK riders can hail a self-driving vehicle via the Uber app, through a partnership with autonomous driving company Wayve – though a safety operator will initially remain in the driver’s seat. At launch, the rides will take place aboard the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E. The vehicles are outfitted with cameras and radar, allowing Wayve’s AI Driver to navigate with “full 360-degree visibility around the car at all times,” the companies said in a press release.  Eventually, rides can expand to other vehicles equipped with Wayve’s driverless tech. In fact, Wayve and Uber plan to open up self-driving trips aboard the Nissan Leaf in Tokyo later this year. Wayve is one of a handful of autonomous vehicle (AV) companies looking to revolutionize urban transportation around the world. Competitors include Waymo, Zoox, Nuro, Avride and May Mobility – which all have partnerships with either Lyft, Uber or both. Waymo aims to launch its robotaxi service in London sometime this year, pending regulatory approval. Unlike AV systems that …

US Postal Service whistleblower warns new system could disrupt midterm election voting

US Postal Service whistleblower warns new system could disrupt midterm election voting

A US Postal Service whistleblower has warned that millions of Americans could be prevented from receiving mail ballots ahead of November’s midterm elections because of a rushed, new system ordered by President Donald Trump and due for launch Tuesday. The anonymous federal official alleges that the agency has continued developing the system despite court orders blocking key parts of Trump’s effort to impose new federal controls on voting by mail. The disclosure, released Tuesday by Democratic US Senator Richard Blumenthal, describes the project as “secretive, rushed, chaotic, and fundamentally flawed” and warns that insufficient testing could lead to “catastrophic failure”. Read moreData center backlash scrambles US midterm politics Under the proposed system, state election authorities would upload lists of mail voters and identifying barcodes to a new federal portal. Postal workers would then check samples from large batches of outgoing ballots against that information before accepting them for delivery. The whistleblower alleges USPS has adopted a “zero-percent failure policy” under which an entire batch could be rejected if even one sampled barcode fails to scan …

Kate Middleton Wears Dazzling New Chandelier Earrings at Balmoral Church Service

The Princess of Wales added a fashionable flair to the look with a pair of stone chandelier earrings by Lauren by Ralph Lauren. It marks the first time the Prince and Princess of Wales have been spotted since it was announced that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would be moving back to the UK with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Trump’s arch would harm historic sightlines: National Park Service

A scaled model of U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed 259-foot triumphal arch and the surrounding area, including the Lincoln Memorial, is displayed on a table at a National Capital Planning Commission meeting in Washington, D.C., U.S., July 9, 2026. Elizabeth Frantz | Reuters The National Park Service is backing the location and scale of President Donald Trump’s proposed 250-foot Triumphal Arch, despite finding that it would adversely affect historic properties and sightlines around Washington. “The selected action, a Triumphal Arch, continues this historic lineage by introducing a focal point that reflects the site’s intended character and celebrates 250 years of American independence,” the federal agency wrote in a report published on Friday. Trump first proposed the arch last year. It is slated to be built in Memorial Circle, a roundabout near the main entrance to the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. The arch has already drawn widespread backlash from lawmakers, conservationists and veterans for its impact on the Washington, D.C., skyline and local traffic. At about 250 feet, the arch would be more than double …

Judge blocks Trump’s Postal Service regulation on mail-in ballots

Judge blocks Trump’s Postal Service regulation on mail-in ballots

A federal judge Thursday blocked a Postal Service regulation that would exert control over mail-in ballots ahead of the midterm elections in the latest setback on the issue for President Donald Trump. The recently finalized measure would implement a key provision of Trump’s executive order on mail-in ballots that would add a new level of bureaucracy to the elections process, which is typically administered by states. The executive order directed the U.S. Postal Service to, among other things, track mail-in ballots and potentially reject those submitted by people not on a federal list of eligible voters. The decision by Boston-based U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani in one case brought by the League of Women Voters and other groups and another brought by a coalition of states means part of the executive order remains blocked for at least 14 days, with time running out to implement it ahead of the November election. “This rule is a clear attempt by the federal government to interfere in elections it has no power to control,” New York Attorney General …

Complaints Pile Up for 2 Popular Meal Kit Services Amid Missing Ingredients and Poor Customer Service

Weeks after fulfillment issues began at Marley Spoon following its former food supplier filing for bankruptcy, customers are speaking out about their negative experiences with the Martha Stewart-backed meal kit brand. (Full disclosure: CNET has tested Marley Spoon several times. We liked it so much, it landed on our list of the best services and earned an Editors’ Choice award before the fulfillment issues began.) Sylvia Turcotte, who has been a Marley Spoon customer for over six years, told CNET that she and her husband have loved the brand’s offerings for years and would even mark certain recipes as “restaurant quality” when they were worthy and often served them to dinner guests.  Then, in July, issues began with her regular deliveries: melted ice, warm protein and questionable produce. In August, a box that was supposed to have 27 ingredients was missing 21 of them.   “Needless to say, I did not cook Marley [Spoon] that week,” Turcotte said. “What I do not understand is why the powers that be have not suspended the meal plan until …

I ditched T-Mobile for Mint after 10 years of service – now I’m saving $120/month

Kerry Wan/ZDNET Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. Recently, a T-Mobile outage affected thousands of customers nationwide, and depending on your choice of words when conversing with a service representative, you were compensated anywhere from $10 to $80 in bill credits. Fun, right? Had I still been a part of the magenta family, I likely would’ve experienced the frustration of my in-laws, who were outside a concert venue that day, waiting to regain any bit of signal to validate their tickets in the 90-degree weather. Also: Hit by T-Mobile’s outage? You can get up to $80 in credit – here’s how Instead, I had already switched to Mint, a smaller but more humble conglomerate, after more than a decade as a T-Mobile customer. The decision was easy, and the lower price wasn’t the only reason. Here’s why you should probably change, too.  The big carrier traps When it comes to picking a mobile service provider, big carriers like T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T seem like the obvious choices. The extensive marketing budgets, from billboard …
