Lufthansa cuts 20,000 flights as Iran war causes jet fuel shortage | US-Israel war on Iran News

The German airline says 20,000 short-haul flights would be removed from its schedule through October. Published On 23 Apr 202623 Apr 2026 German aviation company Lufthansa Group says it would cut 20,000 short-haul flights up until October as the Iran war drives up oil prices and deepens worries that some countries may run low on jet fuel. Lufthansa on Thursday said it would cancel less profitable routes and focus on flights to and from its hub airports in Frankfurt and Munich, which could save approximately 40,000 tonnes of jet fuel. The fuel crisis has been caused by the ongoing standoff between the United States and Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, the vital waterway where one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas supplies are normally shipped. The price of jet fuel has more than doubled in certain markets since the US-Israeli war on Iran began in late …

Nigeria faces jet fuel shortage as Strait of Hormuz disruption bites

Nigeria’s jet fuel shortage is being driven by disruptions at the Strait of Hormuz that have curtailed global supplies of middle distillates, a fuel marketers’ group said, squeezing airlines already grappling with soaring costs. Products such as jet fuel and diesel that normally pass through the strategic waterway have become less available worldwide, pushing up prices, the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) said. Ukraine Seeks To Import African Migrants To Fill Labor Shortage After 100s Of 1000s Dead Or Wounded At The Front

Via Remix News, Volodymyr Zelensky’s head of his Presidential Office in Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, has announced plans to import migrant laborers from Africa. Essentially, this entails Ukraine establishing new laws for the legal entry and residence of foreign workers. The government will introduce a new list of “migration-risk” countries to facilitate this plan, according to remarks Budanov made at the CEO Club Ukraine. “They enter, obtain documents, and then move on. This is a problem that creates barriers for business,” Budanov reportedly said, emphasizing that Ukraine will now move to make it easier for migrants to stay and work in Ukraine. Last October, rumors swirled that Ukraine was directly recruiting mercenaries from Latin American drug cartels to fight in its war against Russia. Kyiv’s forced conscription policies at home, which often resort to violence, have already raised numerous concerns about the brutal practices of Zelensky’s military as well as the desperate situation Ukraine is in due to loss of life on the frontlines. It has long been known that Ukraine faces a serious demographic crisis, now exacerbated by men …

What are my rights if flights are cancelled and holidays disrupted due to fuel shortage? | Flights

The war in the Middle East has prompted fears that potential shortages of jet fuel could result in flight cancellations this summer and warnings that holidays could be severely disrupted. Airports have said jet fuel could run short within three weeks as a result of supply problems after the strait of Hormuz was effectively closed when war broke out at the end of February. Meanwhile, longer border checks across much of Europe for Britons and most non-EU nationals has led to long queues at passport control at some airports, causing some passengers to miss flights. What has happened? The war in the Middle East has led to severe problems around the supply of oil as the vast majority of ships have been unable to navigate through the strait of Hormuz. As a result, the price of oil has jumped to a high of $119 (£88) a barrel in March, from $72 (£53) before the war. Prices fell sharply on Friday however to $89 (£66), after Iran said Hormuz would reopen for the duration of a …

Gulf Shock May Spark Shortage Of World’s Most Critical Industrial Chemical, Used Heavily In Mining

Gulf Shock May Spark Shortage Of World’s Most Critical Industrial Chemical, Used Heavily In Mining

Goldman analysts Kyle Shaffer and Amanda Ross provided clients with a broad overview of industrials and natural resources amid energy disruptions in the Gulf area. In the note, they stated that the well-known Gulf energy shock is set to disrupt LNG production in Qatar for years to come. However, they also highlighted another emerging supply crunch that has received far less attention: sulfuric acid. “Some long-lasting consequences have also started to emerge, including a 3-5 years production loss for LNG facility in Qatar, a 6-12 month re-starting time for some aluminum facilities in the Gulf, and shortage of sulfuric acid which can potentially impact future production for copper and lithium” Shaffer and Ross said. About a third of the world’s sulfur comes from the Gulf region, where it is produced as part of oil and gas refining. Much of the sulfur is exported, primarily to fertilizer and industrial-processing hubs in Asia, North Africa, and, in Qatar’s case, some trading hubs across Asia and Europe. Goldman analyst James McGeoch noted on Wednesday that Shandong sulfuric acid …

Meta Raises Prices on Quest 3 and Quest 3S Due to RAM Shortage

Meta Raises Prices on Quest 3 and Quest 3S Due to RAM Shortage

Meta’s latest virtual reality headset, the Meta Quest 3 (512 GB), will cost $100 more starting Sunday. You can blame the ongoing RAM shortage.  Meta released the pricing update on Wednesday in a blog post calling out price increases for the Meta Quest 3 and 3S models. “The cost of building high-performance VR hardware has risen significantly,” Meta said in the post explaining the increase.  High demand from AI data centers is straining memory chip supplies, causing supply constraints and price increases in consumer tech. Many experts aren’t expecting the RAM shortage to end until 2028.  Counterpoint Research released findings in February showing that RAM costs increased by 80% to 90% in the first quarter of this year. Tech companies continue to hike prices, with Microsoft being the latest to increase the cost of the Microsoft Surface and Samsung doing the same for some Galaxy devices.  Watch this: Meta Quest 3S Review: The Best of the Quest 2 and 3 09:02 Here’s the original pricing as of Thursday, along with what you can expect to pay starting April 19.  Price changes for Meta Quest 3 …

Educational psychologist shortage puts reforms at risk

Educational psychologist shortage puts reforms at risk

Delivery of the government’s new “experts at hand” SEND support service is “at risk” because of a chronic shortage of educational psychologists, an influential think tank has warned. Pupils in some areas are 20 times less likely to get support from an educational psychologist, the Education Policy Institute research suggests, prompting calls for government to boost funding and training. It comes a day after the government set out further details on its plans to create a new “experts at hand” service, which is supposed to improve access to external support for mainstream schools from staff like educational psychologists. James Zuccollo, the EPI’s director for school workforce, said: “This report highlights a stark reality: we cannot deliver the government’s goal of inclusive mainstream education while the educational psychologist workforce remains critically under-resourced. “The £1.8 billion ‘experts at hand’ programme provides a welcome framework, but its sufficiency is entirely dependent on a stable EP pipeline. “Given the length of specialist training required, the government’s three-year delivery timeline is at risk without additional investment to reach adequate staffing …

How war on Iran turned Pakistan’s LNG surplus into a looming shortage | US-Israel war on Iran News

How war on Iran turned Pakistan’s LNG surplus into a looming shortage | US-Israel war on Iran News

Islamabad, Pakistan – At the start of this year, Pakistan had more imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) than it could use. Demand had been falling for three straight years, from a peak of 8.2 million tonnes in 2021 to 6.1 million tonnes by late 2025, as cheap solar panels flooded the market and factories cut back. The government quietly sold excess gas shipments to other countries and shut down domestic gas wells to prevent pipelines from bursting under the pressure of oversupply. Gas that could not be diverted would be pushed into household networks at a financial loss, adding billions to an already crippling debt pile in the energy sector. Recommended Stories list of 4 itemsend of list Then the war came. On February 28, the United States and Israel launched hundreds of strikes against Iran in an operation named Epic Fury. The strikes targeted Iranian missiles, air defences, military infrastructure and leadership. Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in the opening assault. Iran retaliated by firing hundreds of missiles and drones across the region, and …

Commentary: India’s gas shortage will make dal compete with data

ENERGY SECURITY HAS BEEN IGNORED Conversely, LPG is beholden to the Strait of Hormuz. Propane and butane processing at domestic refineries has been stagnant for years amid surging rural demand. To reduce kitchen smoke, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has added more than 100 million subsidised LPG customers over the past decade. While laudable and popular, the programme ignored energy security. Before the start of the war, local LPG storage was adequate to meet just 17 days of demand, down from 22 in 2008. Cylinder prices rose 7 per cent in March and may climb further after this month’s crucial state elections. Although the government maintains that supplies of domestic LPG cylinders are normal, it has mandated refill delays. Commercial supplies – their blue-coloured cylinders are bigger – have been cut. The street-food scene at New Delhi’s bus station has gone quiet. The Bloomberg News reporters who went there recently came across empty stalls. Labour is starting to flee industrial hubs like Surat in Gujarat, as anxiety rises among migrant workers over the cost of …

Bedouins in Israel’s Negev desert face bomb shelter shortage – The Observers

Bedouins in Israel’s Negev desert face bomb shelter shortage – The Observers

As Iranian and Hezbollah air strikes on Israel continue, tens of thousands of Bedouins living in the country’s southern Negev desert have no access to shelters. While some NGOs are attempting to install mobile shelters, they are primarily calling on the government to take action, denouncing “discriminatory planning policies”. Since the war in the Middle East began on February 28, Israelis have started using bomb shelters again, to protect themselves from missiles and rockets fired by Iran, their allies Hezbollah and, more recently, Yemen’s Houthi rebels. When the sirens go off, residents head for nearby public bomb shelters (called “miklats”) or the fortified security rooms inside their own homes (known as “mamads”, which have been mandatory in all new constructions since 1992).
