Babies review | Paapa Essiedu and Siobhán Cullen are heartbreaking

A star rating of 4 out of 5. This article contains mention of pregnancy loss and miscarriage that some readers may find distressing. It’s rare that I can say a drama absolutely won’t be for everybody, but perhaps should be – that is the case with Babies. It won’t be for everybody for two reasons. The first is that it is a new drama from Stefan Golaszewski, the master of unerring slice of life drama. I gave his last series, Marriage, a five-star review, believing, as I still do, that it was an exceptional piece of work. Once it was released into the wider world, many viewers disagreed, and took against it fervently. Babies has a similar pace, tone and structure to that series, so I can already say with some degree of certainty that those who were unimpressed by Marriage will have similar feelings here. The second reason is that it deals with the subject of repeated pregnancy loss and miscarriage, and does so in a way which is raw and unflinching. This topic …

View from My Sofa: Siobhán McSweeney

View from My Sofa: Siobhán McSweeney

Add The Great Pottery Throw Down Final to your watchlist What’s the view from your sofa? I sit in my red armchair, with a pouffe to put my legs up on. There’s also a foot massager I treated myself to. If I’m cold, I wear a woolly hat and have a blanket over me to sit and watch the TV. What have you been watching? Loot on Apple TV with Maya Rudolph is radical and funny, and it does what I love – through the medium of comedy, it actually makes a point. She’s going, “There should be no such thing as billionaires! Why am I a millionaire?” You starred in Lisa McGee’s Derry Girls which also did just that… Derry Girls was extraordinary, but what was frustratingly extraordinary about it was that it essentially taught people recent Irish history. I’m not sure a sitcom should be teaching the history curriculum, but that’s where we’re at. Stories are always there to make us understand each other’s humanity a bit more. What do you ask yourself …

Don Gilet joined by partner Siobhan Finneran in Death in Paradise

As is tradition, Death in Paradise has welcomed a fresh wave of guest stars for its 15th season – from Gavin & Stacey’s Steffan Rhodri in the opener to Hermione Norris (Spooks, Cold Feet) in episode 2. Episode 3 is no different, introducing another familiar face in Siobhan Finneran, a stalwart of British film and television, known for her roles in Happy Valley, Time and Benidorm to name just a few. But, she’s not just any other guest on the show, she’s also the real-life partner of series lead Don Gilet. Finneran plays Fleur Edwards, an artist who relocated to Saint Marie three months ago in search of creative inspiration, but her new start is thrown into chaos when her neighbour, Henry Carpenter, is shot dead. With Fleur being at home when the fatal gunshot rang out, Mervin and Naomi aren’t entirely convinced she isn’t withholding key information. “What aren’t you telling us, Ms Edwards?” the DS asks in an exclusive clip shared with RadioTimes. “All I’m guilty of, detectives, is bruising Henry’s delicate ego,” …

Kicking off at 12:10am on Saturday 24th January, it has been teased that the players make a decision that ripples through the castle as the Traitors are chosen and the lies begin. But are the rumours of this series’ cutthroat nature true? Well, speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com, McSweeney was sure not to give away any spoilers but teased there is something slightly different about the Irish cast to other international formats that audiences may pick up on. Siobhán McSweeney. BBC/RTE/Kite Entertainment She explained: “One of the franchise, who goes around the whole world setting up the show, a lovely man. He was with us as we helped set up the show, as it was our first series, …
