As springtime approaches, we are hurtling into one of the most financially and emotionally draining portions of the year: hen do season. It’s a time to live, laugh and love. A time to resign yourself to wearing a comedy sash. And a time to sit in the basement of an underwhelming bar and attempt to drunkenly paint a masterpiece while a disgruntled and mic-ed up art student shouts step by step instructions into your headset. If you’ve attended any sort of hen event over the past few years, you will be all too familiar with the concept of “paint and sip”, which has somehow become a ubiquitous and vaguely gendered way to socialise in the years since the …

Polymarket’s New DC ‘Situation Room’ Bar Lets Patrons Sip Old Fashioneds And Monitor WW3 Headlines

Polymarket, the crypto-based prediction market, announced on X the grand opening of “The Situation Room” in Washington, D.C., a bar where patrons can sip Moscow Mules, Old Fashioneds, or beer (preferably not Bud Light, perhaps a local IPA like Dogfish) while monitoring X feeds, Bloomberg terminals, and Polymarket bets on wall-mounted televisions. “We’re excited to announce ‘The Situation Room’ by Polymarket is coming to Washington, D.C. The world’s first bar dedicated to monitoring the situation,” Polymarket wrote on X earlier this morning. We’re excited to announce ‘The Situation Room’ by Polymarket is coming to Washington, D.C. Best classic martinis in Los Angeles to sip in style

A martini is a martini, and a martini is more than a martini. No cocktail commands greater cultural status. Blinking on neon signs outside corner bars and perching in the hands of a century’s worth of Hollywood characters, its image lives in our heads. The martini is a badge of power and world-weariness, in real life and fiction, the stuff of American life. In the new millennium’s drinking renaissance, the name and stemware have been co-opted as conduits for restless, relentless reinvention. Who among us guzzles espresso Manhattans with the same fervor? I’m a martini purist (London dry gin and vermouth, stirred, twist or olives depending on the day’s disposition) but not an ideologue. I’m more interested in a conversation about details — I also favor two dashes of orange bitters, an addition with historical precedent — than I am in an argument about absolutes. When the thirst for a proper martini arises, the setting matters. Cities like New York and London nurture establishments that emphasize the ritual: carts, tableside stagecraft, solemnity and wit in …

These Hands Maker’s Collective feels more like someone’s well-equipped home studio than a storefront. Denise Ambrosi, who started the collective about six years ago, opened the current space — a sunny, open workshop on Washington Boulevard — in 2022. With craft supplies for sale, co-working stations for artists-in-residence and large tables for classes, These Hands draws neighbors and crafty friends from around the city. It’s also home to Moving Thread, which hosts sewing workshops for all different skill levels. “I want it to be a creative community,” Ambrosi said. “I want people to be able to come here and feel like it’s a place where they can come and relax, and just kind of get out of their heads and get off their phones.” Ambrosi hosts an occasional “paint and sip” event using elevated easels where guests are guided through simple steps to create their own works of art. While suggested templates are provided as a guideline, painters are encouraged to bring their own reference photos, which Ambrosi will help trace onto canvas. Additionally, monthly …
