Peec, one of Berlin’s rising startups, more than doubled annualized revenue in months to $10M, sources say

One of Berlin’s rising-star, early stage startups, Peec AI, just crossed $10 million in annualized revenue, according to internal dashboard data seen and verified by TechCrunch. Peec AI raised its $21 million Series A six months ago. While CEO Marius Meiners wouldn’t disclose its valuation to me at that time (only revealing that it was above $100 million), he did say the startup had grown its revenue to more than $4 million in the 10 months since its launch. So, it has more than doubled its revenue trajectory, and at a faster pace. Peec helps brands track and improve their visibility in AI searches. While based in Berlin, it recently opened an office in New York.  It’s also serving as proof of one of the key market shifts happening in Europe’s tech scene.  “Founders these days track revenue much more closely,” Antler partner Christoph Klink was telling me just a couple of days ago. Sitting in a hotel lobby bar during an event-laden week for the tech ecosystem, the Berlin-based VC had offhand mentioned Peec …

Official Warns US Could Halt Immigration, Customs Processing at ‘Sanctuary City’ Airports, Sources Say

WASHINGTON, May 21 (Reuters) – Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin privately warned that authorities could stop processing international travelers and cargo at major U.S. airports in “sanctuary cities” that have declined to cooperate with ‌the Trump administration’s immigration ‌crackdown, sources told Reuters. Mullin, who publicly made the threat in April during a Department of Homeland Security funding dispute, privately told travel executives last week that the department could opt to stop customs and immigrations processing of international travelers at airports in cities such as Denver, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Newark, Seattle and San Francisco. The Atlantic earlier reported Mullin’s comments to travel executives and cited sources as saying the move would likely occur some time after the end of the FIFA World Cup in the United States in July. Airlines for America, which represents major passenger and cargo airlines, said reducing customs staffing “at major airports would have a devastating effect on the airline and tourism industries, causing a significant operational disruption to carriers, travelers and the flow of international cargo.” U.S. …

AI-generated Grokipedia articles are longer, less readable, and cite fewer sources than their Wikipedia counterparts

A recent study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences provides evidence that automated encyclopedias differ from human-edited platforms in both structure and political leaning. The research suggests that rather than uniformly removing bias, these automated systems tend to favor longer, more complex narratives while introducing rightward shifts in certain topic areas. These findings raise questions about how artificial intelligence shapes public knowledge and source verification. In October 2025, the American technology company xAI, founded by Elon Musk, launched Grokipedia. The platform was presented as the world’s first artificial intelligence-written encyclopedia. Musk promised the platform would fix left-leaning biases alleged to exist in the widely used online encyclopedia Wikipedia. Wikipedia’s content is written and maintained by volunteer editors. Grokipedia generates and reviews its content using a large language model, which is a type of artificial intelligence trained on vast amounts of text to predict and generate human-like language. Visitors can suggest edits, but the automated system reviews and implements the changes without traditional human editorial oversight. To evaluate these claims, researchers at …

Supreme Leader says enriched uranium must stay in Iran, Iranian sources say

DUBAI: Iran’s Supreme Leader has issued a directive that the country’s near-weapons-grade uranium should not be sent abroad, two senior Iranian sources said, hardening Tehran’s stance on one of the main United States demands at peace talks. Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei’s order could further frustrate US President Donald Trump and complicate talks on ending the US-Israeli war on Iran. Israeli officials have told Reuters that Trump has assured Israel that Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium, needed to make an atomic weapon, will be sent out of Iran and that any peace deal must include a clause on this. Israel, the US and other Western states have long accused Iran of seeking nuclear weapons, including pointing to its move to enrich uranium to 60 per cent, far higher than needed for civilian uses and closer to the 90 per cent needed for a weapon. Iran denies seeking nuclear weapons. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he will not consider the war over until enriched uranium is removed from Iran, Tehran ends its support for proxy …

The hidden sources of lead in your garden – and how to stay safe

Organic methods give you comfort in knowing that your vegetables are grown without excessive chemicals. But what many careful gardeners don’t know is their gardens can carry a hazard that organic methods alone may not prevent: lead. Lead has no safe level of exposure and it’s present in the soil of some Canadian urban gardens. Where does it come from? Leaded gasoline emissions from historical use, deteriorating lead-based paint that seeps into the soil around older buildings and industrial activities like mining. Luckily, there are many simple and affordable ways to reduce lead exposure and make our gardens safer. Lead affects us all differently Lead has no function in the human body and is harmful in any concentration. Though estimates vary, adults absorb around three to 10 per …

‘People should aim to get a variety’: the pros and cons of popular protein sources | Well actually

Do you think you’re not getting enough protein? Debbie Fetter, an associate professor in nutrition at the University of California, Davis, likes to ask her students this same question. In a lecture hall of more than 500 people, “almost every hand shoots up”, she says. Protein is top of mind for consumers. A 2024 survey of 3,000 Americans suggests most are trying to eat more of it, and research shows that foods labeled “more protein” are especially appealing to consumers. And as consumers become more aware of their intake, they may wonder whether some sources are better than others. “People should aim to get a variety of protein sources in their diet,” says Andrea Glenn, an assistant professor of nutrition at New York University. Here’s how to navigate individual needs and preferences, while getting the nutrients needed for good health. What is protein and why is it important? Protein is essential for building and repairing tissues, and for making enzymes, hormones and disease-fighting antibodies. It is made up of smaller units called amino acids. The …
