People Who Don’t Really Fit In Anywhere Notice 11 Specific Things Everyone Else Seems To Miss

Many people tend to underestimate the pain that comes with the experience of feeling excluded or ostracized, especially when it’s by loved ones and peers in spaces where belonging and community are important. A study from the journal Science found that it’s a physical pain similar to that of stubbing a toe. We actually feel it inside, not just emotionally, but literally in our bodies. So, even if we undervalue the kind of resilience and grace it takes to cope with those social emotions, the truth is, it builds up character in incredibly influential ways. That’s why people who don’t really fit in anywhere notice specific things everyone else seems to miss. AI boosts worker creativity only if they use specific thinking strategies

AI boosts worker creativity only if they use specific thinking strategies

A new study published in the Journal of Applied Psychology suggests that generative artificial intelligence can boost creativity among employees in professional settings. But the research indicates that these tools increase innovative output only when workers use specific mental strategies to manage their own thought processes. Generative artificial intelligence is a type of technology that can produce new content such as text, images, or computer code. Large language models like ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini use massive datasets to predict and generate human-like responses to various prompts. Organizations often implement these tools with the expectation that they will help employees come up with novel and useful ideas. Many leaders believe that providing access to advanced technology will automatically lead to a more innovative workforce. However, recent surveys indicate that only a small portion of workers feel that these tools actually improve their creative work. The researchers conducted the new study to see if the technology truly helps and to identify which specific factors make it effective. They also wanted to see how these tools function in …

Specific brain training regimen linked to lower dementia risk in 20-year study

Specific brain training regimen linked to lower dementia risk in 20-year study

A specific regimen of computer-based brain exercises focused on visual processing speed may lower the long-term risk of receiving a dementia diagnosis. A new analysis of data spanning two decades suggests that older adults who engaged in this adaptive training, provided they participated in follow-up sessions, were approximately 25 percent less likely to be diagnosed with dementia compared to a control group. These results were published in the journal Alzheimer’s & Dementia: Translational Research & Clinical Interventions. The search for effective ways to prevent or delay Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias is a primary focus of modern medical research. While physical exercise and diet are frequently cited as potential protective factors, the role of specific cognitive training remains a subject of intense debate. Many commercial products promise to sharpen the mind, yet scientific evidence supporting their ability to prevent disease has been inconsistent. To address this uncertainty, researchers revisited data from a gold-standard clinical trial to see if specific interventions had lasting effects on brain health. The research was led by Norma B. Coe, a …

High rates of screen time linked to specific differences in toddler vocabulary

High rates of screen time linked to specific differences in toddler vocabulary

New research published in the journal Developmental Science provides evidence that the amount of time toddlers spend watching videos is associated with the specific types of words they learn, distinct from the total number of words they know. The findings indicate that higher levels of digital media consumption are linked to a vocabulary containing a smaller proportion of body part words and a larger proportion of words related to people and furniture. The widespread integration of digital media into family life has prompted questions about its influence on early child development. Current estimates suggest that many children under the age of two spend roughly two hours per day interacting with screens, primarily watching videos or television. Previous research has often focused on the relationship between screen time and the overall size of a child’s vocabulary. These earlier studies generally established that high exposure to low-quality programming correlates with a lower total number of words spoken by the child. However, language acquisition is a multifaceted process. Children do not learn all words in the same manner. …

Women With Shorter Hair Usually Have These 11 Very Specific Personality Traits

While many women have been pressured to believe that long hair is a “prerequisite” for acceptable femininity, the truth is that authenticity and a strong sense of self-esteem come from detaching from trends and social norms rather than trying to fit in with what tradition deems acceptable. Femininity comes from individuality, not conformity. How women wear and change their hair feeds into that sense of authenticity in an incredibly deep way. Not only is our hair often a reflection of experience and age, but it’s also symbolic and emotional. That’s why it’s not surprising that women with shorter hair usually have very specific personality traits and experiences that influence how they express themselves to the world. It’s not always as simple as convenience or attractiveness, but rooted in deep emotional shifts and individual character traits. macOS: Share a Link That Jumps to a Specific Line on a Webpage

macOS: Share a Link That Jumps to a Specific Line on a Webpage

Sometimes when you share a webpage link with someone, you just want to bring their attention to a specific passage or sentence to make your point, rather than have them read through the entire article. In 2020, Google added a function to its Chrome browser called Scroll to Text Fragment (STTF) that helps you achieve this. It allows URLs to link directly to any visible text on a page. You may have seen it work in Google Search, where clicking on a link in your returned results takes you to a highlighted passage of text further down the page. Google later added the feature to the Chromium codebase, so most other popular Chromium browsers like Edge, Opera, Brave, and Vivaldi also support it. Here’s how it works. Copy Link With Highlight in Safari Apple added full support for text fragment links in Safari 18, and the feature is available in Safari on macOS Sequoia and later. To use the feature, visit a web page and simply highlight the text you want to create a link …

Specific cognitive training has ‘astonishing’ effect on dementia risk

Specific cognitive training has ‘astonishing’ effect on dementia risk

Cognitive training could arm the brain against the effects of dementia Gary Burchell/Getty Images Cognitive “speed training” can reduce the risk of a dementia diagnosis by 25 per cent – that’s according to results from the world’s first randomised controlled trial of any intervention against the condition. “There was a lot of scepticism about whether or not brain training interventions were beneficial, and to me, [our study] answers the question that they are,” says Marilyn Albert at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. Brain training has generated controversy for years. Early enthusiasm waned after several brain-training companies that had promised protection against cognitive decline were found to be overstating their benefits. In 2014, almost 70 scientists signed an open letter saying that there was no conclusive evidence that brain training produced changes that had real-world relevance or promoted brain health. Months later, another open letter signed by more than 100 scientists countered their arguments. Now, a 20-year study of 2832 people aged 65 and older suggests specific exercises may offer benefits. The …

4 Specific Childhood Experiences Of People Have A Hard Time With Adult Life

When you grow up in a traumatizing environment you are likely to still show signs of that trauma when you grow up. That can often lead to finding adult life just really hard.  Children make meaning out of the events they witness and the things that happen to them and create an internal map of how the world is. This meaning-making helps them cope. But if children don’t create a new internal map as they grow up, their old way of interpreting the world can hurt their ability to function as adults. The four childhood experiences shared by people who have a hard time with adult life:  1. They had to create a false self in order to feel loved as a child Kindel Media / Pexels As a childhood emotional trauma therapist, I see many patients who carry childhood emotional wounds with them into adulthood. One way these wounds reveal themselves is through the creation of a false self. As children, we want our parents to love us and take care of us. When our parents don’t do this, we try to become the …

Couples Who Don’t Fight But Also Don’t Go To Sleep At The Same Time Have These 11 Specific Problems

Even if it seems harmless, healthy even, to never fight with a partner, experts suggest that it’s actually healthy arguments that bond us closer together and encourage us to practice conflict-resolution skills that will inevitably become important down the road. It seems harmless and innocent, but a study from the Journal of Sleep Research suggests that it can actually lower relationship well-being and satisfaction.
