Nicolas Cage and ‘Spider-Noir’ Team on Bringing Bogart to Spider-Man

Nicolas Cage and ‘Spider-Noir’ Team on Bringing Bogart to Spider-Man

For the latest chapter in Sony’s Spider-Verse, Spider-Noir creator and co-showrunner Oren Uziel was already a fan of the noir genre and Spider-Man before he signed on. That meant he and actor-producer Nicolas Cage could spend more of their time, all the way back to writing the pilot, unpacking a single question: “What if we made a Bogart movie where Bogart just happened to be Spider-Man?”  “Every single day he’d come to set with a different reference: ‘This is Bogart from The Big Sleep, this is going to be Peter Lorre. This is going to be Edward G. Robinson,’” Uziel, whose own inspirations included Third Man, Double Indemnity, The Thin Man, His Girl Friday, L.A. Confidential, Miller’s Crossing and Casablanca, said of Cage’s commitment to shaping the character and world. “Beyond that, we didn’t want to make a version of Spider-Man that anyone had seen before. Nic was never going to do that.” The first season, which drops on Prime Video on May 22, expands the story of Spider-Man Noir, who made his animated onscreen …

Sony Movie Chief Tom Rothman Tells Theaters to “Get Off the Ad Crack”

Sony Movie Chief Tom Rothman Tells Theaters to “Get Off the Ad Crack”

There’s no one more famous than Tom Rothman when it comes to getting theater owners fired up at CinemaCon, the annual gathering of theater owners in Las Vegas. The chairman of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group has used profanities more than once when taking aim at the perceived enemies of the theatrical experience who make it far too easy for consumers to watch a movie at home. “Netflix, my ass,” is one of his more notorious quips. But his comments at this year’s edition of CinemaCon took a surprise turn April 13 when he instead took issue with cinema operators and the consumer experience they provide, or lack thereof. “What I’m about to say, I say as a lifelong defender of movie theaters. But I urge you all now to make some hard choices for the long term rather than the short term health of your business,” aid Rothman. “Now is your own Olympic moment with three immediate goals.” First, Rothman called on circuits to enforce windows. While that comment drew loud applause, the clapping soon …

Tom Holland Says ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Is Still Shooting ‘Really, Really Fun’ New Scenes

Tom Holland Says ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Is Still Shooting ‘Really, Really Fun’ New Scenes

When Tom Holland’s Zoom box pops up on my screen, the actor is neatly framed by an ultra-vibrant, berry-pink wall. The actor is calling in from his home office in London, where he’s in town doing additional photography for Spider-Man: Brand New Day—work he describes as being “really, really fun,” if not totally necessary. “I can positively say that the stuff we’re doing, we don’t need,” he explains. “The movie works and sings as it is. We’re just adding the icing on the cake in certain areas. We’re finding some ways to add a little bit more humor. We’re layering in a villain plotline in a new way and some really fun stuff.” For someone who is starring in the two most hotly anticipated sure-to-be blockbusters of this summer—this new Spider-Man, plus Christopher Nolan’s take on The Odyssey—Holland seems remarkably zen on this Friday afternoon, sunglasses perched atop his head, disposition sunnier than the weather outside. His mindful approach to working (and playing) is the philosophy behind Holland’s newly announced partnership with the California clothing …

After The Drama, 4 More Zendaya Shows And Films Coming Out In 2026

After The Drama, 4 More Zendaya Shows And Films Coming Out In 2026

When we look back at 2026 in the future, we’re probably going to be saying that the year belonged to Zendaya. The woman of the hour has no fewer than three upcoming movies in the year ahead – not including one that’s in cinemas now – and she’s also set to reprise the TV role that put her on the map in the first place. Outside of her work, she’s also been at the centre of rumours that she and her long-time partner Tom Holland quietly tied the knot in secret, after confirming last year that they were engaged. Here’s your quick guide to everything Zendaya currently has in the pipeline, from her divisive new romantic drama to the return of Euphoria… The Drama (in cinemas now) Robert Pattinson and Zendaya in The Drama Zendaya and Robert Pattinson play a couple about to celebrate their big day in The Drama. However, the pair’s relationship slowly begins to unravel when a dark revelation about the bride-to-be’s past during a drinking game leads both of them to …

Can a Tourist Fit Go Hard? Tom Holland Thinks So

Can a Tourist Fit Go Hard? Tom Holland Thinks So

When I think of tourists at the Empire State Building, a very specific vision comes to mind: a selfie stick extended to concussion-inducing heights, one of those slouchy safari hats, and a short-sleeve flannel tucked into some khakis. But Tom Holland just showed us that you can still go sightseeing without suffering in the style department. Holland—who is currently promoting the upcoming Marvel sequel Spider-Man: Brand New Day—probably wished that he could have strapped on his Spidey webs and yanked himself up the 1,860 steps when he visited the Manhattan tower during his press duties this week. Instead, he put foot to floor in a pair of well-loved Dice Los sneakers by Axel Arigato, a brand that the actor has a well-documented love for. His trousers were a pair of cozies that looked as good as they were functional. And on top, that’s where the money is. Regular tourists might opt for something waterproof and practical, made for standing in queues for viral $20 drinks, and Holland technically did the same—but it almost never looks …
