Argentina’s spunkiest duo Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso have checked themselves into a wellness center for their latest album, “Free Spirits.” Out Thursday, the LP pushes the limits of the duo’s experimentation, combining unpredictable blends of trap, rock and pop while still maintaining their raunchy sense of humor and musicianship. The 12-track project features collaborations with British musicians Sting and Fred Again, as well as California’s very own Anderson .Paak and Jack Black. It’s been a busy year for the avant-garde pair, who won their first Grammy in February for their nine-track EP, “Papota.” At the ceremony, they hinted at a rebrand for the upcoming album; both appearing on the red carpet wearing matching tan robes — a look far less flashy than the custom Versace outfits they wore at the Latin Grammys in November. “We are trying to heal that velocity that we had in the past year. The news has not been great for the global spirits marketplace, as we’ve reported many times over the past year. Still, despite distilleries pausing production and corporate sales figures slipping, one bright spot seems to be in the auction market for rare and expensive whiskeys. One of the leading auction houses, Sotheby’s, released its 2025 Wine & Spirits Market Report late last week, and it details a bevy of information showing how it is out performing general market trends. According to the report, auction sales in 2025 totaled $127.5 million, a year-over-year increase of 12 percent. A third of the buyers were new to Sotheby’s and more than half were under the age of 50, representing 63 different countries around the world. Some of the highlights from 2025 were the partnership with the Distillers One of One auction in Scotland, which included 39 ultra-rare and aged whiskies from 35 companies and distilleries. Sales from this auction totaled $3.9 million, which far surpassed the pre-sale estimate. Amid ongoing trade tensions with the United States and China, it has faced a drop in exports. After declines in 2023 and 2024, the 2025 results have proven even more bitter. According to figures published Tuesday, February 10, by the French Federation of Wine and Spirits Exporters (FEVS), exports of wine, champagne and cognac fell by 8% in value year-on-year, to €14.3 billion. Volumes also dropped by 3.3%. The FEVS emphasized that, despite this slowdown, the sector still posted a trade surplus of €13.2 billion, though it was down 7.6% from the previous year. This decrease, estimated at €1.1 billion, contributed to the slump in the French agri-food trade balance, which stood at €200 million in 2025, its lowest level in more than 25 years.
