Scientists behind the study suggest that the “simple, low-cost” intervention performs on par with conventional breathing drills and may work to “complement existing care” for individuals living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In the UK alone, an estimated 1.7 million people suffer from COPD, including roughly 600,000 who remain undiagnosed. The clinical trial evaluated 63 patients diagnosed with COPD who were receiving care at Ankara Bilkent City Hospital in Turkey. Researchers assigned a third of the group to laughter therapy sessions, while the remaining participants were guided through pursed-lip breathing routines or received no specialised exercises. Daylight saving time does more than alter clocks. The spring loss of one hour may also raise the risk of retinal disease, while the fall return to standard time appears to have the opposite effect. A nationwide Northwestern Medicine analysis examined insurance claims from more than 18 million patients. The researchers focused on retinal vascular diseases, disorders that damage blood vessels in the retina and can threaten vision. The findings, published in Scientific Reports, linked the spring transition with a roughly 20 to 30 percent higher risk of proliferative diabetic retinopathy and neovascular age-related macular degeneration during the following month. After the fall clock change, when people gain an hour, patients had a roughly 20 to 40 percent lower risk across four retinal conditions. Bally’s Chicago reached a major step toward opening its permanent casino this week after construction crews lifted the final structural steel beam into place, bringing the massive riverfront development to its full height. Grand Ave. signaled that the building’s structural framework is now complete as work shifts toward interior construction and finishing ahead of a planned spring 2027 debut. Apple is planning to release new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models in spring 2027, reports Bloomberg. No major design changes are expected, with Apple focusing on internal upgrades. The ‌iPad Pro‌ models could use either M6 chips or M7 chips. Apple will introduce the M6 chip as soon as this year in an updated 14-inch MacBook Pro model, but it is aiming to release the M7 chip in the first half of 2027. Bloomberg does not specify which chip Apple will put in the ‌iPad Pro‌, but if the M7 chip is ready by spring 2027, the new iPads could have the upgraded chip. If it’s not ready, they’ll use the M6. Both chips will be built on Apple’s new 2-nanometer process, but the M7 has AI optimizations that the M6 doesn’t have.
