Russell takes last-gasp pole after clashing with Antonelli in Canada sprint

Antonelli was told to calm down by race engineer Peter “Bono” Bonnington after his outburst over the radio after the first incident. But when he carried on complaining, he earned a rebuke from his team principal Toto Wolff, who told him to “concentrate on the driving”. Then, at the end of the race, after Antonelli went off track a third time trying to pass Norris and was looking to vent his spleen again on the cool-down lap, Wolff shut him down a second time. “Kimi, now is not the time to talk about this. We will talk about this later, not on the radio.” The two Mercedes men had a brief handshake after getting out of their cars, but it promised to be an awkward debrief. Sky Sports F1 pundit Martin Brundle said it was no surprise to see the two come to blows given they are fighting for the title. Russell is under pressure this weekend because Antonelli has won the last three races to take the championship lead. “It was always going to …

Aprilia’s Martin wins French Grand Prix sprint from eighth on grid

Aprilia’s Martin wins French Grand Prix sprint from eighth on grid

LE MANS, France, May 9 : Aprilia’s Jorge Martin pulled off a stunning charge from eighth on the grid to win Saturday’s French Grand Prix sprint, closing the gap on championship leader and teammate Marco Bezzecchi while world champion Marc Marquez crashed out spectacularly. Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia, who started from pole position, finished second and Bezzecchi claimed third for his first sprint podium of the season. Martin’s victory, a record 18th sprint success for the 2024 champion, moved the Spaniard to within six points of Bezzecchi in the standings ahead of Sunday’s main race. Martin’s remarkable comeback began with a blistering start as he sliced through the field before overtaking a group of riders on the outside with surgical precision. “I love this track. Today, I struggled a bit in qualifying, but I knew my potential was much higher,” a beaming Martin said. “I just put all my determination into the start. I didn’t expect to be (in) first position in the second corner, but from that point, I just pushed like in the past, …

Kimi Antonelli Storms to Miami Grand Prix Pole as Mercedes Rebounds After Sprint Race Stumble

Kimi Antonelli Storms to Miami Grand Prix Pole as Mercedes Rebounds After Sprint Race Stumble

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Kimi Antonelli helped Mercedes rebound from a disappointing showing in the Saturday sprint race at the Miami Grand Prix by winning the pole in qualifying just a few hours later. It’s the third consecutive pole for the current Formula One championship leader, who blocked Max Verstappen from taking the top starting spot at Miami International Autodrome for a third straight year. Mercedes has dominated the competition this season, with George Russell winning from the pole in the season-opening race, then Antonelli winning from the pole in the two grands prix that followed. F1 then had a five-week break when a pair of races in the Middle East were canceled because of the war in Iran. All teams made upgrades to their cars during the break, but after Russell was fourth and Antonelli sixth in Saturday’s sprint race, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff acknowledged “we are a little out of sync with our upgrades compared to other teams.” Antonelli recovered by qualifying and turned a lap at 1 minute, 28.653 seconds to …

Lando Norris takes Miami GP sprint pole to deny Mercedes for first time in 2026

Lando Norris takes Miami GP sprint pole to deny Mercedes for first time in 2026

It has been a long time, hasn’t it? With the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian races, F1 has had an enforced and unexpected spring break after just three rounds of the new regulation set. But here we are, back in Miami for a sprint weekend, with some tweaks to the regulations. Without going into too much detail – and the new regulations are so detailed that it beggars belief – there will, of course, be hope that the tweaks make for better, more sensible racing as well as bringing some of the challengers close to leaders Mercedes. Hard to say if that has happened on the basis of one (albeit extended) practice session in Miami, but there were some fairly promising signs. Charles Leclerc was fastest for Ferrari ahead of Max Verstappen in the Red Bull, nearly 0.3sec behind, followed by Oscar Piastri, Ferrari team-mate Lewis Hamilton and then the lead Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli. George Russell, who is hoping to overturn the Italian’s championship advantage this weekend, was sixth, only marginally behind …

McLaren’s Norris beats Antonelli for Miami sprint pole

McLaren’s Norris beats Antonelli for Miami sprint pole

MIAMI, May 1 : Formula One world champion Lando Norris took pole position for Saturday’s Miami Grand Prix sprint race with Mercedes’ title leader Kimi Antonelli second fastest to deny McLaren a one-two on the starting grid. Norris lapped the Hard Rock Stadium with a best time of one minute 27.869 seconds, beating last year’s teenage sprint pole sitter by 0.222. Australian teammate Oscar Piastri will line up third with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc alongside on the second row. The main grand prix, fourth round of the season, is on Sunday. “A perfect result for us. A nice way to reward the team,” said Norris, who won last year’s sprint and finished second to Piastri in the Sunday race. “We have a lot of new upgrades on the car. It’s nice to feel some grip again and to reward the guys and the girls that have put a lot of work into this,” he added. “I’ve always loved Miami on and off the track. It’s the beginning of the weekend, so still a long way to …

Humanoid robots may be about to break the 100-metre sprint record

Humanoid robots may be about to break the 100-metre sprint record

A humanoid robot from Honor crosses the finish line during the 2026 Beijing E-Town Humanoid Robot Half-Marathon Lintao Zhang/Getty Images Last weekend, Sabastian Sawe set a new world record with a sub-2-hour marathon, but he isn’t the only one raising the bar for runners. On 19 April, a robot from Chinese smartphone maker Honor surpassed the human record for the half-marathon. In another event this month, a robot from Unitree came tantalisingly close to the human 100-metre sprint pace. These developments raise two big questions: how much quicker can humanoid robots get, and what’s the point of fast-running robots anyway? The inaugural Beijing E-Town Half-Marathon and Humanoid Robot Half-Marathon, where humans and robots competed on the same 21.1-kilometre course, took place in 2025. This month, the second edition saw the number of robotic teams grow nearly fivefold, with more than 100 teams bringing more than 300 humanoid robots to compete. And while the fastest half-marathon time for an autonomous robot in 2025 was 2 hours and 40 minutes, this year that fell dramatically to just …

Apple Execs Say Spatial Computing Is ‘Inevitable’ and AI Is a ‘Marathon, Not a Sprint’

Apple Execs Say Spatial Computing Is ‘Inevitable’ and AI Is a ‘Marathon, Not a Sprint’

Apple hardware engineering chief John Ternus and marketing chief Greg Joswiak recently did an interview with Tom’s Guide, where they shared new insights into the MacBook Neo, AI, and spatial computing. Ternus and Joswiak made it clear that the ‌MacBook Neo‌ isn’t your average low-cost device. Apple doesn’t typically put a lot of focus on its more affordable devices, but marketing for the Neo has been expansive, and that’s because Apple sees it as a “reinvention” of the entry-level laptop. From Ternus: I think maybe another one from our past is this idea that Steve talked about is the Mac being the bicycle for the mind, right? And you know, from the very beginning, the vision was let’s make personal computing as accessible to as many people as possible. And that was the mission of the MacBook Neo. Ternus said the ‌MacBook Neo‌ required “building something completely new from the ground up” to provide customers with quality at a low price. “We never want to ship junk,” he said. “We want to ship great products …

Aprilia Racing’s Martin wins US MotoGP sprint, Bezzecchi crashes

March 28 : Jorge Martin won the U.S. MotoGP sprint in Austin on Saturday while Aprilia Racing teammate and championship leader Marco Bezzecchi crashed and failed to finish a sprint for the second time this season. Martin overtook Francesco Bagnaia during the final lap at the Circuit of the Americas where he made a move at turn 12 before crossing the line in 20 minutes 19.546 seconds, winning by 0.755 seconds. “I never thought, when I was starting the season in Thailand, that after three rounds I would be winning races again. So it’s unbelievable,” Martin said after a record-extending 17th sprint win, but his first with Aprilia. “I’m so thankful to Aprilia. They are helping a lot to raise my level. And yeah, I did it already. I mean, I feel a better rider than I was in the past.” Pedro Acosta of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing had finished third but after the race received an eight-second penalty due to low tyre pressure, a move that dropped him to eighth place and promoted Enea …
