HOUSTON (AP) — Amen Thompson scored 23 points, Tari Eason added 20 and the Houston Rockets avoided elimination with a 115-96 rout of the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 of the Western Conference playoff series Sunday night. Game 5 is Wednesday night in Los Angeles. The Rockets got their first win in the series after falling into an 0-3 hole despite missing Kevin Durant for a third game thanks to a balanced scoring attack. Durant sat out a second straight game with a sprained left ankle after missing Game 1 with a bruised right knee. Houston’s entire starting lineup scored at least 16 points with Alperen Sengun adding 19, Reed Sheppard 17 and Jabari Smith Jr. 16. Aging well is somewhat dependent on the cards you’re dealt in life, but you probably have more control over it than you think. Inactivity as you age, for instance, plays a crucial part. Simply put, the more active you are, the less likely you are to become frail and incapacitated. Casey Lee, a board-certified geriatric physical therapist at ATI Physical Therapy, knows better than most about how aging impacts the body. Gov. Ned Lamont ordered his administration to hold off on issuing new valuations for agricultural land Monday, bowing to pressure from farmers who argued that the changes would lead to huge tax hikes and force some families to sell their land. Lamont said that the canceled assessments — which in some cases would have caused the taxable value of farmland to double — were the result of an “unforeseen lack of data” the state had attempted to collect in an effort to determine the going rate for Connecticut’s dwindling amount of available farmland. The decision will keep in place, for now, recommended land values that were last adjusted in 2020. In an effort to sweeten the pot for Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) shareholders, Netflix is now offering cash for shares of the company, revising the cash-and-stock deal it had struck with WBD’s board earlier. However, the streaming giant is still offering the same $27.75 the companies had agreed on for WBD’s movie studio and streaming assets, and the deal continues to value the company at $82.7 billion. The new offer serves to simplify the deal structure, the companies said in a statement on Tuesday, “provides greater certainty of value,” and speeds up the timeline for a shareholder vote. Netflix said it would finance the deal with cash, debt, and “committed financing.” The change-up comes as rival suitor Paramount Skydance has intensified efforts to win over WBD’s shareholders with its all-cash, $30-per-share offer for the entirety of the company, including getting a $40 billion guarantee from its CEO David Ellison’s billionaire dad, Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison. Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacteria J Marshall/Tribaleye Images / Alamy Drug-resistant gonorrhoea is on the rise worldwide, but a new antibiotic could buy us more time before the emergence of completely untreatable strains of the bacteria, which is known to potentially raise the risk of infertility. The sexually transmitted infection is estimated to affect more than 80 million people worldwide annually. It occurs when the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae infects various body parts, including the anus, urethra and genitals. Common symptoms include a burning sensation when urinating and unusual discharge from the vagina or penis. If left untreated, it can cause infertility and pregnancy loss. The disease is usually treated with injectable ceftriaxone, the last antibiotic that works against most N. gonorrhoeae strains – but the bacterium is evolving resistance to this drug too. For instance, the World Health Organization found that, across 12 countries including Thailand, South Africa and Brazil, about 5 per cent of cases were ceftriaxone-resistant in 2024 – a sixfold increase since 2022.
