A Study Found Asthma Improves After Switching From a Gas Stove to Electric

When you turn on your gas stove to cook, it releases various air pollutants that may cause detrimental health effects.Javier Zayas Photography/Getty Images The gas vs. electric debate continues when it comes to which stove is best — and safest — for your kitchen. Published in early July, a study by the MetroHealth System, a Northeast Ohio hospital and academic medical center, in collaboration with six community organizations found that participants with asthma reported respiratory improvement after they swapped their gas stoves for electric.  According to one of the researchers, Dr. Ashwini Sehgal, a professor of medicine at Case Western Reserve University, in an article published by the nonprofit news organization The Conversation, this is the first study to explore whether switching from a gas to an electric stove can reduce asthma symptoms.  The study’s findings  The study included 85 adults and children in Northeast Ohio with “poorly controlled asthma,” which was based on their symptoms, use of emergency medication and activity limitations. After a Lifetime of Gas, I Switched to an Induction Stove. I’m Never Going Back

After a Lifetime of Gas, I Switched to an Induction Stove. I’m Never Going Back

Stoves come in three basic types: gas, electric and induction. There are significant differences among them, which we’ve outlined in this guide to stoves. For me, it’s never been a question; gas was the only fuel professional chefs in the kitchens I worked in growing up used, ergo gas was the only stove I ever considered. That all changed when I bought my first house.  Moving into a new home with an aging stove forced me to ask a question I thought I knew the answer to. My instinct, honed by years of experience with gas, was to stick with what I knew. But my day job complicated things. As a home tech reporter who covers large appliances and the health risks tied to cooking with gas indoors, I couldn’t ignore what I’d been writing about.  I switched to a smart induction stove, and I couldn’t be happier. Samsung/CNET I’ve had asthma my entire life, one of the conditions thought to be aggravated by gas stove emissions, particularly in children. And my new kitchen, somewhat cut …

I Saw a Hidden Induction Stove Concept at KBIS. It Looked Cool and Very Dangerous

I Saw a Hidden Induction Stove Concept at KBIS. It Looked Cool and Very Dangerous

Stoves are disappearing at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show, at least to the naked eye. A new stove concept from SKS, dubbed the “Hidden Induction Stove,” debuted here at KBIS in Orlando, Florida, and transforms an everyday stone countertop into a fully functional induction cooktop.  We saw the stovetop in action. Well, sort of. The pot of water sitting atop the counter appeared to be boiling with a steady flow of steam rising from within — no sign of an actual stovetop. Further inspection revealed that the stove wasn’t on and the steam was being produced by a small device sitting inside the pot.  You almost got us, SKS. Still, we have questions… This hidden induction stove concept, unveiled at KBIS 2026, turns an ordinary countertop into a stovetop. David Watsky/CNET How will it work?  Rather simply. Induction heating elements are installed under the countertop surface so you can boil, simmer and sauté right there. Heat is transferred through the countertop surface and to the cookware above. Dials are mounted on the front of …
