The Oscar-winning actor played fashion editor Miranda Priestly in the oft-quoted 2006 original, and she reprises her role in the new film, which is due in cinemas on May 1. Speaking to Out magazine about the queer audiences who have embraced the films and her character in particular, Streep said: “It makes me so happy! Would we have fashion without gay people? Forgive me, would we have anything? I wouldn’t know how to put together anything. It’s a joy to have made it with [the LGBTQ+] community in mind. Top of mind.” She added that the new film has been well received by people from a wide variety of backgrounds, saying: “It’s cross …

The 76-year-old actor discussed how people present themselves through fashion during a recent conversation with former Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, moderated by filmmaker Greta Gerwig. The Vogue interview comes ahead of the release of The Devil Wears Prada 2, in which Streep reprises her role as magazine editor Miranda Priestley, who is loosely based on Wintour. During the conversation, Gerwig asked the pair about style, saying that “dressing has always been more nebulous” for women than men. Wintour responded that women don’t need to wear a suit to be powerful, citing female political figures like Michelle Obama and Rama …

Meryl Streep on Directors She Was Imitating For Devil Wears Prada Role

While most people assume Meryl Streep was channeling Anna Wintour for her Devil Wears Prada character, the Oscar winner says she was actually “imitating” two top Hollywood filmmakers. The actress — who first played cynical fashion editor Miranda Priestly in the 2006 film and later reprised her role for the upcoming sequel — made a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where she revealed that she actually drew inspiration from Mike Nichols and Clint Eastwood for the role. “I was basically imitating Mike Nichols that whole time,” Streep told the host. “If Mike Nichols and Clint Eastwood had a baby… it would be Miranda Priestly.” This may come as a surprise to some fans, as many have likened Priestly to Wintour since The Devil Wears Prada was based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel of the same name, which was inspired by her own experiences working as an assistant to the former editor in chief of Vogue (Wintour now serves as chief content officer for Condé Nast and global editorial director of Vogue). Streep explained that Nichols’ commanding directing …

Meryl Streep Says ‘Damn Yes’ To Third Mamma Mia! Film

Meryl Streep is ready to don those famous blue overalls once again, hinting that she wants to reprise one of her most beloved film roles. During an appearance on Wednesday’s edition of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the host asked the three-time Oscar winner if she would want to star in another Mamma Mia! film. Without taking a second to think about it, an enthusiastic Meryl enthused: “Damn, yes!” Speculation has been swirling since the second Mamma Mia! film came out in 2018 about whether another sequel could be on its way. The rumour drill then went into overdrive in 2025, when several cast members revealed they’d been in talks with the producers about returning to the musical franchise. Amanda Seyfried, who played Sophie Sheridan in both films, claimed in November 2025 that the wheels were in motion for the threequel, sharing with Entertainment Tonight: “Of course it’s not off the table, it’s searing a hole into the table.” She added: “Maybe I should just be coy, or maybe I’m just naïve, but I’m …

Oscars Flashback: What Heath Ledger, Reese Witherspoon, and Meryl Streep Wore On the Oscars 2006 Red Carpet

Oscars Flashback: What Heath Ledger, Reese Witherspoon, and Meryl Streep Wore On the Oscars 2006 Red Carpet

Trends may change from year to year, but some things—like black dresses, red lipstick, and Meryl Streep—are never out of place on the red carpet at the Oscars. Just as all of the glam above will almost certainly appear at the Oscars 2026 on Sunday, March 15, they were all present on the Oscars red carpet 20 years ago. The awards ceremony itself was full of surprises, from all four major acting winners—Reese Witherspoon, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rachel Weisz, and George Clooney—being first-time nominees, Crash pulling off a best picture upset over awards season favorite Brokeback Mountain, and more. Not a surprise, however, was the outstanding style attendees displayed on the red carpet two decades ago. Nobody wears a classic black tux like Clooney, as he once again demonstrated in 2006, and Michelle Williams, attending on the arm of Brokeback Mountain costar and then-partner Heath Ledger, another master of menswear, could wear her canary yellow Vera Wang gown with artful tulle ruffles and an elegant train today, and nobody would bat an eye. Jennifer Aniston …

Meryl Streep Loved Her Devil Wears Prada 2 Outfits—Except for One Detail

Even Anne Hathaway was stunned by the impact of seeing Miranda walk down the office passageways again. “Meryl, as Miranda, had started down the hallway ahead of me—I was maybe 50 feet behind her—and seeing her from the back was practically psychedelic,” she told Vogue. For Hathaway, now an Oscar-winner herself, it was like going back in time. “I just felt so many portals open up at that moment. I was 22 again, but it was still now. Thankfully, this time, she didn’t stay in character the entire time, so we had a lot of laughs.” In a few months, audiences will be whisked back to the past and immerse themselves in the world that has already captivated generations.
