Brits 2026: 29 Photos That Sum Up What The Awards Show Looked Like 10 Years Ago

As much as awards shows like the Brits are all about recognising the top achievements of the last year, for many of us, they also give the opportunity to look back at some truly iconic pop culture moments. While the 2016 trend dominated social media earlier this year, it just so happens that 10 years ago was a stand-out year for the Brit Awards, too. From jaw-dropping red carpet fashion and some seriously iconic performances we’re still obsessed with a decade later to more emotional scenes and surprise link-ups, the 2016 Brits had it all – and here are 29 pictures that sum up everything that went down that night… Let’s start as all good awards shows do – with the red carpet, where Jess Glynne sported this eye-catching look The nation’s sweetheart – then still known as Cheryl Fernandez-Versini – brought the glamour with this ensemble David Fisher/Shutterstock Kylie Minogue walked the red carpet in this enormous black hat, with her then-fiancé Joshua Sasse in tow And speaking of superfluous hats… here’s James Bay, …

Best dim sum dishes to order and how to tell if they’re good

Best dim sum dishes to order and how to tell if they’re good

If you grew up anywhere near the San Gabriel Valley, you could probably write this cheat sheet yourself. I was lucky enough to spend nearly every summer morning seated with my grandmother at a big round table in one of the numerous dim sum halls in the SGV. This was back when nearly every restaurant serving dim sum had carts. Filled with metal steamers or glass windows boasting fried ham Sui gok or pan-fried dumplings, the carts would roll through the dining room, their handlers simultaneously dishing out helpings to diners while advertising offerings to the entire dining room. Lo bak go never tasted better than when it was fresh off the cart, the edges of the turnip cake still sizzling. I used to look for the cart with the mountain of gai lan and request extra oyster sauce for the long, leafy stalks of broccoli. If the dim sum was good, you’d likely be spending half the meal standing, head on a swivel, looking for the cart with your favorites. If I spotted it …

Trump Has 2 Very Dismissive Words To Sum Up Peter Mandelson’s Fall From Grace

Trump Has 2 Very Dismissive Words To Sum Up Peter Mandelson’s Fall From Grace

President Donald Trump, listening to Britian’s ambassador to the Peter Mandelson, right, delivering remarks on a trade deal between US and UK in the Oval Office of the White House, Thursday, May 8, 2025, in Washington. via Associated Press Donald Trump has appeared to downplay former US ambassador Peter Mandelson’s fall from grace over his links to Jeffrey Epstein. Mandelson served as the UK’s main link to the Trump administration for much of last year until he was sacked for his friendship with Epstein, the dead paedophile. After the US Department of Justice released a fresh batch of files unveiling Epstein’s extensive network with the elite over the weekend, it was revealed that Mandelson may have been leaking confidential government information to the disgraced financier. The peer quit the Labour Party on Sunday night and, after intense backlash, stood down from the House of Lords though his title technically remains. When reminded by a reporter in the Oval office that Mandelson has been forced to resign over his links to Jeffrey Epstein, Trump replied: “I didn’t …

The Rip review: Damon and Affleck’s latest cinematic reunion is less than the sum of its parts

The Rip review: Damon and Affleck’s latest cinematic reunion is less than the sum of its parts

A star rating of 3 out of 5. Collaborations between old pals Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are always worth watching, whether they result in classics like Good Will Hunting or could-have-beens like Air. Writer-director Joe Carnahan’s filmography has been similarly hit and miss, with bangers such as The Grey interspersed with clangers like The A-Team. So, a sense of cautious expectation greets this chewy cop thriller, which was “inspired by true events”, but feels very much like a product of the movies. Frankly, with a first act this exciting, who cares? When Miami cop Jackie Velez (Lina Esco) is gunned down in cold blood, it sends shockwaves through her unit, the TNT (Tactical Narcotics Team). New boss – and grieving father – Lieutenant Dane Dumars (Damon) wants the murder solved fast. His right-hand man, Detective Sergeant JD Byrne (Affleck), was Velez’s lover, and keeps her gun as the ultimate tribute. The rest of the team – played by Steven Yeun (TV’s Beef), Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another) and Catalina Sandino Moreno (Ballerina) – …

Guantanamo Bay detainee to get ‘substantial’ sum from UK government – as Badenoch criticises use of taxpayers’ money | UK News

A Guantanamo Bay detainee will be paid a “substantial” sum as he settles a legal claim against the UK government, his lawyers have said, as Kemi Badenoch said UK taxpayers’ cash was being handed to a “terror suspect”. Abu Zubaydah, 54, has been detained by US authorities since his capture in Pakistan 2002 in the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attacks, and in 2006 was sent to Guantanamo Bay in Cuba where he has remained ever since. Mr Zubaydah, a Palestinian born in Saudi Arabia, who was accused at the time of being a high-ranking member of al Qaeda, is said to have been tortured by the CIA, including by being waterboarded 83 times in a month, and facing beatings and extreme sleep deprivation. He brought legal action against the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the Home Office, as agencies liable for MI6 and MI5, as well as the attorney general. The High Court previously heard Mr Zubaydah claimed he was “arbitrarily detained” at CIA-run “black site” prisons in Thailand, Poland, Morocco, Lithuania and …
