New James Turrell Work Debuts at Superblue Miami
Superblue Miami, an immersive art hub in the city’s Allapattah neighborhood, is celebrating its five-year anniversary with an installation by Light and Space artist James Turrell, Artnet News reports. The piece, titled Blue Sea Sky (2026), marks the artist’s latest installment in his renowned “Ganzfeld” series (1976–). For the last five decades, Turrell has been making works inspired by the ganzfeld effect (German for “complete field”), a phenomenon that flattens depth perception through a uniform or unstructured stimulation field. Inspired by both flying as a pilot since age 16 and an interest in perceptual psychology, the works in Turrell’s ongoing series typically color otherwise ordinary spaces in rich hues.
