The 46-year-old American actor, known for his previous superhero turn in Aquaman, joins forces with Milly Alcock’s reluctant anti-hero Supergirl in the sci-fi action movie, fighting for vengeance and justice. Momoa has long spoken of playing Lobo as a childhood dream, and in an interview with the Press Association, he reflected on the “crazy” reality of stepping into the role. He recounted his first scene, stating: “I think the first scene was when I got on the bike and we ride in, and that’s your introductory scene – riding in on the on the space hog, fireballs going off, chaos, and you’re throwing the gut hook. It was… I mean, it’s surreal. …

Coppa Italia fireworks trigger surreal smoke delay at Italian Open

Coppa Italia fireworks trigger surreal smoke delay at Italian Open

May 13 : The Italian Open quarter-final between Italy’s Luciano Darderi and Spain’s Rafael Jodar was interrupted in bizarre circumstances on Wednesday when smoke from fireworks at the neighbouring Stadio Olimpico drifted across the Foro Italico. Jodar was leading 6-5 in the opening set when thick clouds of smoke drifted onto the centre court from Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, where Inter Milan beat Lazio 2-0 in the Coppa Italia final, severely reducing visibility and briefly knocking out the tournament’s electronic line-calling system. Play was halted for almost 20 minutes as officials waited for conditions to improve and for the system to reset. Television images showed the court shrouded in haze, with players and spectators struggling to follow the action as smoke lingered above the clay. The late-night scenes added to a chaotic day in Rome after heavy rain earlier caused a delay of around two and a half hours, leaving players competing well into the evening. Source link

Prince Harry’s ‘true feelings’ about King Charles after ‘surreal experience’ | Royal | News

Prince Harry’s ‘true feelings’ about King Charles after ‘surreal experience’ | Royal | News

The Duke of Sussex could have had “conflicted” feelings over seeing the King’s state visit to the US, an expert has said. Former BBC royal commentator Jennie Bond said it would have been a “rather surreal experience” for Prince Harry watching his father being “feted” in the country where he now resides. Charles did not travel to California to see his estranged son while in the US, instead flying into Bermuda after the four-day state visit ended. Harry has not seen his father face-to-face since September last year, when he was in London for a charity awards ceremony. The pair have only seen each other a handful of times in recent years amid a strain in relations, although the Prince has said he “would love a reconciliation” with the Royal Family. Ms Bond suggested that while a visit from the King to Harry in California was never on the cards, his stateside appearance could have brought up some feelings for the Duke. She told the Mirror: “I don’t think it would have been any surprise …

Luke Combs’ Surreal Cartier Tank Proves That He’s an A1 Collector

Luke Combs’ Surreal Cartier Tank Proves That He’s an A1 Collector

Luke Combs has quietly been assembling a grade-A watch collection. Over the past few years, the singer has worn everything from classic luxury staples, like his Rolex GMT-Master II, to stranger, more insider-y fare, including an A. Lange & Söhne. His latest choice might be the boldest yet: an underrated variant of one of Cartier’s most eccentric designs, the Tank Folle. While everyone knows the melted dimensions of the Crash, the Folle receives much less fanfare. Combs’s Cartier made its debut in 2012, so it’s a much more recent invention than the ’60s-era Crash. But the origin of the Folle might be even more compelling. Whereas the Crash riffs on the bathtub-shaped Bangoire, the Folle goes right to one of the most iconic watches ever made in the Tank. It feels slightly more dangerous to mutate the shape of a load-bearing piece like this. The result is wonderfully bizarre. The Tank’s normally straight brancards twist and warp into an almost liquid shape, as if the watch is slowly sliding off the wrist. Combs’s variant is …

Watch 434 Avant-Garde and Surreal Short Films Online: Salvador Dalí, Marcel Duchamp, Luis Buñuel and Many More

Much has been written lately about the crisis in Hollywood, which has left many apparently sure-fire blockbusters floundering, theaters empty, and production jobs lost. There are many factors in play — some of them, as few diagnoses fail to point out, structural — but can we ignore the possibility of fatigue, perhaps even boredom, with film itself? We’ve posted in recent years here on Open Culture about the decay of cinema, the rise of “visual muzak” on Netflix, why movies don’t feel real anymore, and why movies don’t even feel like movies anymore. Even if they’ve limited their exposure to big-budget spectacles, most once-avid cinephiles will have felt all those phenomena for themselves by now, and many will be considering whether to look for a new art form to enjoy. But some will wonder: maybe there’s a cure? There could well be, and a bracing one. If you seek a re-enchantment with film, there could be few better places to look than in the work of filmmakers who have broken that medium down to its very components …

It’s Always Surreal in Philadelphia, Where Art Meets AI in a Sweeping Space

It’s Always Surreal in Philadelphia, Where Art Meets AI in a Sweeping Space

Climbing up flights of stairs in a bank building full of rooms draped in surrealist art, tunnels with lurking beasts called “skin horses” and exhibits of keepsakes imaginary and real, I find myself looking at an art mural across a domed ceiling that I can explore with instruments next to me. Speaking into a microphone, I see my words scroll across the edges. My hands, thrust into a small chamber, are projected across the ceiling, highlighting parts of the mural. Suddenly, AI-generated descriptions emerge where I’d put my hands. This is the Ministry of Awe, a new installation experience in Philadelphia that I was lucky enough to visit ahead of its opening, and it’s a welcome East Coast dose of strangeness. Created by Meg Saligman and over 100 other artists, it’s a six-story space that makes me think of Meow Wolf or long-time LA oddity the Museum of Jurassic Technology — or even London’s very real Sir John Soane’s Museum. This “skin horse” lurks in the basement, if you look hard enough. Scott Stein/CNET The former bank …

‘African people are surreal’: songwriter and blues poet Aja Monet on Black resistance and love as spiritual warfare | Music

‘For many years, I’ve called myself a surrealist blues poet,” says Aja Monet in her warm, deep voice. Sitting in a London cafe, the Los Angeles-based artist looks striking, with her blue braids woven up in an intricate style. She was up late uploading the final master recordings for her new album, The Color of Rain, which she says was heavily influenced by her reading around how “surrealism was a real intentional device that artists used in response to the rise of fascism throughout history”. High-minded and yet invested in the cut-and-thrust of our lives today, it’s a typical comment from Monet. With themes around love, resistance and the absurdity of our current times, her performance, poetry and music offers a balm for the suffering and abuse meted out by establishment power. Already in 2026, her second poetry book Florida Water was nominated for an award by the foundational US civil rights organisation the NAACP, and she performed alongside Stevie Wonder at Time magazine’s event celebrating Martin Luther King Day. She’s gearing up for a …

Riz Ahmed on turning Bait’s chilling hate crime scene into the surreal

Riz Ahmed on turning Bait’s chilling hate crime scene into the surreal

**Warning: This article contains spoilers for Bait.** As the world starts closing in on Shah Latif (Riz Ahmed) in Prime Video’s Bait, things start to go from ordinary to slightly surreal as the struggling actor has to deal with being thrown into the spotlight. Having engineered a studio exit to be captured by paparazzi so the James Bond rumour mill could involve him, Shah is taken aback as he realises that not everyone is pleased at the prospect of him being the new 007. While his family and friends may be over the moon for him, he soon sees online vitriol being thrown his way, with plenty of racism and Islamophobia sadly piled on. Part of those scenes involves a pig’s head being thrown through the window of his parents’ home, a chilling hate crime in amongst all of the laughter of the series. But we soon see that Shah is actually using the pig’s head in another way – talking to it as though he’s on a podcast. Chatting to Radio Times about where …
