Jaber, 32, a veteran first responder with Lebanon’s interior ministry, was killed along with his colleague Ahmad Noura, 45, by an Israeli drone on May 12 in Nabatieh, a city in southern Lebanon, as they tried to rescue a man wounded in another strike moments earlier. His death came just days before Ramal and Jaber’s first wedding anniversary. The two men were the latest of over 100 first responders killed in Israeli airstrikes since the war between Israel and the militant group Hezbollah began on March 2. A ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon that began …

Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images hide caption toggle caption Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images Swing voters in North Carolina say they are frustrated with President Trump and the state of the economy, but aren’t ready to abandon him or his party as the midterms inch closer. NPR observed two online focus groups on Tuesday featuring 12 voters in North Carolina who voted for Joe Biden in 2020 and then Trump in 2024. These focus groups were conducted by messaging and market research firms Engagious and Sago as part of the Swing Voter Project. Seven of the voters who participated identified as independents, four said they were Republicans, and one identified as a Democrat. That’s a more Republican-leaning cohort than prior months’ focus groups. Here are three takeaways: 1. Trump is viewed as out-of-touch, but not weak Half of these voters said they overall disapprove of the job Trump is doing. And a lot of that frustration has to do with the fact they do not think Trump …

Four swing House races in Pennsylvania loom large for both parties — and for 2028, too

Control of the House of Representatives could come down to four pivotal battleground races in Pennsylvania. Subscribe to read this story ad-free Get unlimited access to ad-free articles and exclusive content. With an increasingly limited map of competitive seats, both Democrats and Republicans are emphasizing the importance of these campaigns, which are about to get floods of money and investment from both sides. Some of that has already started, including from Gov. Josh Shapiro, who is on a party-building kick as he faces a re-election bid that, as of yet, is not expected to be particularly competitive. Shapiro, a potential 2028 presidential contender, has emphasized those four races, making primary endorsements in each and signaling he will be deeply involved in them as November nears. Help the battleground Democrats win, and Shapiro will be able to tell Democratic presidential voters about how he helped the party retake the House and defeat a broad spectrum of Republican House members. Fall short, and his political strength will come under further scrutiny. And there’s the Donald Trump factor, …

The 10 best golf watches, to help improve the quality of your swing and shot precision

Golfers are well-renowned for loving a gadget, especially one that promises to shave strokes off their scorecard, which the best golf watch could very well do. The best golf watches with GPS work similarly to rangefinders, providing useful real-time data and distance information which can shape your decision-making on the course and track scores, plus stats to help you analyse and identify areas to improve on once you’re back at the clubhouse. Golf pro and founder of Urban Golf James Day explains that the core function of a golf watch is the “convenience of having the yardage effortlessly. You really don’t have to do anything but walk up to your ball, look at your watch and the yardage is there.” Even the most basic golf watches give you distance to the front, back and middle of the green. The best golf watches range from less than £150 up to £1,700. Some can be used straight out of the box, while others require more complicated integration with a smartphone and apps. Jimmy Butler’s Alo Yoga Hoodie-Tuxedo at the Met Gala Was a Wild Swing

Jimmy Butler’s Alo Yoga Hoodie-Tuxedo at the Met Gala Was a Wild Swing

The Met Gala is all about big sartorial swings, and in a sense NBA superstar Jimmy Butler delivered on that front on Monday evening. He pulled up to the gala not in couture or a wearable art installation, but rather in a brand more closely associated with Pilates studios (or coffee shops in close proximity to Pilates studios) than black-tie affairs: Alo Yoga. It was a high-risk, potentially high-reward move—the sartorial equivalent of a half-court prayer of a shot with two seconds left on the clock. And on its face, the idea of a sportswear brand making a red-carpet suit is not unheard of either: We’re seeing more and more tech fabric being used in places where tech fabric should maybe not be used by the day. But just because Alo is best known for sweats and sporty tees doesn’t mean Golden State’s do-it-all forward—who has an ongoing relationship with Alo, and released a sneaker with the brand last fall—pulled up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art like he was headed for the gym. Rather, …

The voters participated in two online focus groups Tuesday night conducted by messaging and market research firms Engagious and Sago as part of the Swing Voter Project. NPR is a partner on the project and observed both groups. All 13 participants live in Georgia and voted for Joe Biden in 2020. They each then supported President Trump in 2024. In farm bill, GOP takes another swing at pesticide protections loathed by MAHA

Republicans are using the farm bill to take another swing at passing legislation to protect pesticides, something sure to anger their allies in the “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) movement. Stephen Maturen/Getty Images hide caption toggle caption Stephen Maturen/Getty Images Concerns about the tactics of federal immigration agents remain front of mind for some key voters who supported President Trump in 2024. NPR observed two online focus groups on Tuesday night, with 14 voters from Arizona who supported Joe Biden in 2020 and then swung to Trump in 2024. Four voters identified themselves as Democrats, three as Republicans and seven as independents. Twelve of the 14 participants said they felt Immigration and Customs Enforcement “has gone too far” in carrying out its operations. And nine participants said they know someone who has changed their daily life out of concern for a possible interaction with ICE. Some said ICE’s presence in the border state had begun to directly affect them, as well. Reflecting on recent immigration enforcement in Minneapolis, where two U.S. citizens have been fatally shot by federal agents, various focus group participants described ICE actions as “aggressive,” …
