Nicolas Cage as Web Slinger

Nicolas Cage as Web Slinger

The official trailer for Prime Video’s Spider-Man-based drama series features a gumshoe Nicolas Cage facing off against Brendan Gleeson’s super villain. Marking the Oscar winner’s first leading TV series role, Cage plays Ben Reilly, an aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero. In the new trailer (below), Reilly discovers his powers and faces off against an Irish crime boss (Gleeson), who is apparently Silvermane from the comics. The trailer was dropped in Mexico City for the pop culture festival CCXPMX26. The company has a unique presentation for the project: Spider-Noir will be available to stream in two different ways, in “Authentic Black & White” and “True-Hue Full Color” (the original comics were rather muted and monochromatic, but in color). The project is based on the comic Spider-Man Noir, but the project is considered a stand-alone story and not part of the Sony movies or the Into the Spider-Verse franchise. The full cast includes Lamorne Morris (Fargo), Li Jun Li …

Harry Potter Trailer Makes History as Most-Viewed for HBO

Fans are tuned in to see the Boy Who Lived back on screen. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, a TV series reimagining J.K. Rowling’s seven-part book series and part of the Warner Bros. franchise, which starred Daniel Radcliffe as its title character, released its first trailer on Wednesday. After the first 48 hours, it had reached more than 277 million organic views across platforms, making it the most-watched trailer in HBO and HBO Max history. The first season of the multiseason series is set to follow Rowling’s first novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and each season will presumably focus on another book. “I’ve always wanted to know about my parents,” Harry says in the trailer to Hagrid (Nick Frost), who responds: “Your parents were the kindest, bravest people I have ever met. They were funny and clever and they stood up for what they believed was right. The next time I see you will be at Hogwarts.” The trailer shows Harry meeting, who will become his best friends, Ron Weasley (Alastair Stout) …

Jake Gyllenhaal, Henry Cavill in Guy Ritchie Film

Jake Gyllenhaal and Henry Cavill play cool killers led by minder Eiza González in the official trailer for In The Grey, which dropped on Monday. Guy Ritchie’s long-awaited action thriller sees Gyllenhaal play Bronco and Cavill is Sid, both members of a “covert team of elite operatives” out to recover a billion dollar fortune stolen by a ruthless despot. “They work between the moral and the immoral. The black and the white … They operate in the grey,” González’s character Sophia says at one point in the trailer. Bronco and Sid also make use of automatic weapons and explosives to pull off their covert heist at the villainous despot’s lair, a private island with its own militia. Cavill also starred in Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. “What begins as an impossible heist gets much worse, spiraling into an all-out war of strategy, deception and survival,” a synopsis from the producers reads. Adding solar panels to semi trailers is an idea so obvious it hurts

Adding solar panels to semi trailers is an idea so obvious it hurts

Refrigerated trailers are critical for hauling your fresh food and flowers from the farm to your local market – the problem is that they pollute like crazy, powered by red-dye diesel gensets that run around the clock, even when the truck pulling them is fully electric. To help solve that problem, one company come up with an idea so obvious you’ll hate yourself for not coming up with it on your own: rooftop solar. Refrigerated trailers (reefers) are critical for hauling fresh food and flowers from the farm to your local market — the problem is that they pollute like crazy, powered by red-dye diesel gensets that run around the clock, even if the truck pulling them is fully electric. That constant diesel burn spews CO₂ and NOx into industrial and residential areas alike, and contributes significantly to fleets’ carbon emissions and noise pollution at a time when a number of municipalities are moving to regulate both, regardless of what the Annoying Orange-in-Chief wants. It is, as they say, “a real problem,” but Sunswap Endurance …

Pickleball Sport Comedy ‘Pickleheads’ Gets Trailer

Pickleball Sport Comedy ‘Pickleheads’ Gets Trailer

A sports comedy about pickleball seemed bound to happen, and now there’s a trailer for one. Below is a first look at Pickleheads, a comedy that premiered at the Austin Film Festival in October. The mockumentary follows “a disgraced ping pong star who is dragged back into the limelight by a documentary crew, hoping to capture his redemption tale in a plucky new sport — pickleball” — or, as it’s described in the movie, “America’s fastest growing nightmare.” On his road to redemption, the former ping pong star “collides with nudist competitors, the local court kingpin Hawk Kai, while accidentally paddling his way into a turf war with displaced neighborhood protestors and tennis players who are sick of all that pickleball noise.” The film was shot in Austin, which was previously named America’s pickleball capital, having more courts per capita than any other city. The film is directed by Rooster Teeth veteran Josh Flanagan and written by Jared Bonner and stars Pej Vahdat, Kristine Froseth, Jared Bonner, Harvey Guillén, John O’Hurley, Adrianne Palicki, Eric Nelsen, …

What I’m Most Excited for in ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Is the Suits

What I’m Most Excited for in ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Is the Suits

I love watching those Letterboxd street interviews where they ask strangers to name their top four films of all time. I genuinely don’t know what mine would be. It would depend on the day. It would depend on the mood. But the original The Devil Wears Prada would absolutely be in there, no doubt. I remember watching the 2006 film for the first time and thinking it was just…great. Not “This is so clever” great. Not “Wow, what a twist” great. Just perfect. The pacing, the performances, the clothes. At age 11, I was maybe a little young to be absorbing Miranda Priestly’s sub-zero energy and Nigel Kipling’s velvety sarcasm. But it lodged itself somewhere permanent—for everyone, really. Twenty years later, the sequel is finally on the way, and I feel weirdly protective and very excited. A new trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2, due out May 1, dropped this week. Sure, the vibes were slightly different, there’s a touch of that so-called “Netflix lighting” floating around, and a couple of jokes didn’t quite …

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is running on fumes and these Doomsday trailers prove it

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is running on fumes and these Doomsday trailers prove it

Later this year, Marvel will come into theaters swinging with Avengers: Doomsday, the latest in its historically successful series of superhero movies. The studio has been building hype recently by releasing little teaser trailers. At least one of them leaked beforehand and spread like wildfire around the internet, showing that there’s still plenty of interest in this franchise nearly 20 years in. That said, the trio of teaser trailers released so far has something concerning in common: they all look backwards. In an era when Marvel has struggled to build much new momentum after the conclusion of its last big story arc, it’s been relying on its past, and that strategy may well backfire sooner or later. How Marvel came to this From rock star to washout Starting with 2008’s Iron Man, Marvel Studios went on a theatrical hot streak that has yet to be equaled. Movies about Captain America (Chris Evans) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) were hits, but that was to be expected: they were comic book mainstays with large followings, and Marvel was …

Aldis Hodge Goes on Serial Killer Womanhunt

Aldis Hodge Goes on Serial Killer Womanhunt

Aldis Hodge as the detective and forensic psychologist who looks into the minds of killers to catch them goes on the hunt in the second season trailer for Cross for a ruthless vigilante pursuing a billionaire businessman tied to the murder of a playboy. But there’s a twist. “Our manhunt is now a womanhunt,” Alona Tal as FBI special agent Kayla Craig tells her fellow detectives at one point in the trailer that dropped on Thursday about an active serial killer on the loose. Cross had been asked to protect billionaire business titan Lance Durand, played by Matthew Lillard, after he received a death threat that linked him to the murder of a billionaire playboy. With Cross and Craig as partners, they pursue a killer who leaves behind gruesome clues. Meanwhile, Cross’s partner, Detective John Sampson, played by Isaiah Mustafa, makes an unexpected connection that causes yet another falling out between the best friends. “It’s me against the whole world at this point,” a discouraged Cross says at another point in the trailer. The Prime …

X-Men Return in Latest Avengers: Doomsday Teaser

X-Men Return in Latest Avengers: Doomsday Teaser

James Marsden makes a fiery return as the comic book character Cyclops in the latest preview for Avengers: Doomsday ahead of the movie’s December theatrical release. As the X-Men return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the teaser, which dropped on Tuesday, mostly features Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Ian McKellen as Magneto in a somber dialogue about death. “The question is: who would you be when you close your eyes?” Professor X questions at one point in the teaser. That’s quickly followed by the character Scott Summers, also known as goggle X-Man Cyclops, suiting up for the upcoming film from directors Joe and Anthony Russo after earlier trailers revealed returns for God of Thunder Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. The superheroes — everyone from the original X-Men to the Fantastic Four — will face off against Doctor Doom, played by Marvel patriarch Robert Downey Jr. in one of two Avengers films to roll out later this year. Marsden appeared as the Marvel character in X-Men (2000), X2: X-Men United (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), though his …
