Former footballer Murphy, went viral earlier this month after sharing an impromptu anecdote about his cat, named Bob, while commentating on the fixture between Ivory Coast and Norway. Revealing that Bob went missing after jumping in a Royal Mail van, Murphy drew bemused reactions from viewers, many of whom likened him to Steve Coogan’s bungling radio-jock character Alan Partridge. Viewers spotted a reference to Bob the cat in the BBC’s closing montage for Sunday night’s cup final – a match that saw a dominant Spain land a 1-0 victory in extra time over a bad-tempered Argentina side. Cillian Murphy has paid an emotional tribute to his late former co-star and friend Sam Neill, who has died aged 78. The New Zealand actor, who was also familiar to fans for his role in Jurassic Park, passed away in hospital in Sydney, Australia, on Monday 13 July. Cillian Murphy and Sam Neill worked together on the first two seasons of Peaky Blinders from 2013 to 2014. Murphy played the show’s lead, Tommy Shelby, while the late actor starred as Chester Campbell, a ruthless police inspector who had been tracking the Shelby family for two seasons. Neill’s character was killed in the season 2 finale, when Polly Gray, played by Helen McCrory, shot him in a phone booth. From houses to cars, the public are keen to decorate to show their support to the Three Lions team. Did you know that His Majesty King Charles III even has an England flag tribute in his own back garden? But this one is a little different… The monarch’s beloved Highgrove Estate in Gloucestershire is one of his favourite places to be, and often where he spends weekends and holidays. He has lovingly restored it inside and out, including overhauling the kitchen garden which was in a state of disrepair when he purchased the property and land in 1980. When he embarked on the restoration, he decided to design the garden to incorporate the shapes of the England flag and Scottish flag, which makes up the overall shape of the Union Jack flag. Cast and crew of The Archers have paid tribute to the late Patricia Greene following her death, aged 95. The star, affectionately known as Paddy, was the longest-running soap actress in the world – having made her debut as the loving but stern matriarch Jill Archer in the BBC Radio soap in 1957. Greene continued to play a prominent role on the soap for nearly 70 years up until her passing. The news was announced on Friday (10 July) at the end of the Today programme. The announcement said: “Jill Archer was famed for her baking. While her lemon drizzle was her signature it was her flapjack that made the headlines when she was arrested at a protest over food waste.” BBC Radio 4 controller Mohit Bakaya also praised Greene’s “outstanding” contribution to the soap in a statement which read: “It has been a pleasure to hear her ever-evolving portrayal of Jill over the decades.
