Two children in England have died from measles this year, health officials have said. The tragic deaths come as the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) warned the highly infectious virus continues to circulate across the country, with outbreaks earlier this year driving a rise in cases. Latest figures show that 736 laboratory-confirmed measles cases were recorded in England between January 1 and June 8, 2026, compared with 959 cases during the whole of 2025. A further 106 cases have been confirmed since the last UKHSA update two weeks ago, including a recent case linked to an Amazon warehouse in Gateshead, where health officials urged staff to check their vaccination status and remain alert for symptoms. Most infections have been among unvaccinated children aged 10 and under. Measles activity increased earlier this year, mainly because of outbreaks in London and the West Midlands. Health authorities announced that masks would be required in schools in seven neighbourhoods of Guadalajara for the next 30 days. The state capital is a key host city for the upcoming 2026 Fifa World Cup, sparking fears that infections could spread when crowds gather. A new study that examines the attitudes and behaviors of electronic gaming machine (EGM) venue customers and staff in Victoria, Australia, reveals high rates of problem gambling risk. The study has been published by the Victoria State Government, and it has involved a venue-based survey of 352 EGM customers from 12 Victorian gaming venues, as well as an online survey of gaming room staff, which attracted 92 respondents from across the state. This is the third wave of the Electronic Gaming Machine Environment Study, with this having taken place between May and June 2024. Speaking on the findings, the state government has shared what the study has revealed: “Consistent with the first 2 waves, the current study identified high rates of problem gambling risk and harm among people who gamble in EGM venues; one in 6 respondents met the criteria for problem gambling as measured by the Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI), two-thirds were at some level of problem gambling risk, and half had experienced gambling-related harm in the past 12 months.” Victoria State Government …
