The internet reacts to Walmart’s ‘AI slop’ sign
Walmart is finally getting tap-to-pay — but social media is considerably less impressed with the apparent AI-generated advertisement announcing it. A photo posted to X shows an in-store display promoting the rollout with a cheery “Fast! Easy!” message, alongside images of a smartphone and payment terminal. Others were frustrated that one of the world’s largest retailers appeared to have used generative AI for such a basic piece of marketing. “I despise AI generated advertisements for businesses,” one person wrote. “Billion dollar corporation,” another user posted, criticizing Walmart for seemingly declining to hire a graphic designer.
