Before J.Press’s fall-winter 2026 show kicked off on Wednesday, designer Jack Carlson walked the line of models, ensuring that each tie was hanging just right and each bag was stuffed to his liking. The last detail he’d inspect on every person? The watches on their wrists, all selected from an impressive collection of 50 vintage pieces flown in from Florida by Wind Vintage dealer Eric Wind. “Everyone wants a Rolex,” said Charlie Dunne, Wind Vintage’s senior watch specialist, who helped escort the individually bubble-wrapped timepieces to the venue the previous night. Dunne told me there’s no exact science to the way the watches were assigned: Carlson paired certain models with specific looks, but others were simply strapped on because a model asked for one. And while the Disney team probably didn’t spend an extensive amount of time observing lions and hyenas interacting in the wild while making the beloved movie, a zoologist and her colleagues just did—and they found something unexpected. The long-standing assumption about the relationship between the carnivores involves hyenas following lions for their food scraps. However, male African lions (Panthera leo) are the ones going after spotted hyenas (Crocuta crocuta), who move away from the big cats. Hudson, a 10-year-old arctic fox at Massachusetts’s Stone Zoo, was not doing all that much when his caretakers came by his enclosure one sunny morning last month. But the moment he detected their approach, he scurried over. His eyes focused on the pink, kibble-filled puzzle box they were holding—a programmable, lab-made device that’s part of an experiment in letting captive animals play around with technology. In the past year, in partnership with a team led by Rébecca Kleinberger, an engineer and a computer scientist at Northeastern University, Stone Zoo has introduced Hudson to his puzzle feeder, two black bears to a motion-sensitive bubble machine, a family of colobus monkeys to an interactive cabinet of mirrors, and more. No movie has popped at this year’s fall film festivals more than Wild Horse Nine, Martin McDonagh’s dramedy about a pair of bickering CIA agents, played by John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell, who visit Chile’s Easter Island ahead of the 1973 coup that ousted that nation’s democratically elected president. Indeed, the film, which Searchlight will release in the U.S. on Nov. 6, received a 14-minute standing ovation following its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on Thursday, and then played through the roof at its North American premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on Friday.
