The Simpsons’ writer who predicted Trump presidency launches bid for White House in 2028

Dan Greaney, the writer who predicted Donald Trump’s presidency in a 2000 episode of The Simpsons, wants a turn in the White House.

The Emmy-winning TV writer — who calls himself “the prophet” — announced his bid for the 2028 presidency in a Tuesday Instagram video.

Wearing a wizard costume complete with a robe and a gray beard, Greaney criticized Democrats, Republicans, the Trump administration and billionaires at the start of the video.

“Trump, Vance, the billionaires, careerists, and cowards in both parties have turned their backs on the United States,” Greaney, 61, said. “It’s money, power, and security for them, but not for you.”

Greaney said he wished he could help make the country better, “but I’m not a lawyer.” He went on to say, “I’m just a self-proclaimed prophet who went to law school, graduated, passed the bar…Wait! I am a lawyer!”

He then threw off his wizard costume to reveal his clean-shaven face and a suit.

“Screw it, I can be a politician,” Greaney said. “I’m running for president. My platform: America for all. Let’s do this.”

The comedy writer appears to be running independent on a “progressive Republican” platform advocating for universal healthcare and a return to morals, according to his Instagram page.

Greaney is best known for predicting Trump’s bid for the White House 16 years before it happened with a Simpsons storyline showing Lisa Simpson becoming president and inheriting financial problems from a then-fictional presidency led by Trump.

“I don’t know how I see the future, I’m not a scientist — I’m a prophet,” Greaney said in a video posted in June 2025.

“In that episode, I hinted that the Trump administration had failed, leaving President Lisa Simpson to pick up the pieces. I now have a shocking new prediction: the end is near for the Trump presidency. It will happen in spectacular fashion. His fall will be unambiguous and universally acknowledged. He will be removed from office. It’s risky to put a date on it, but I have to call it like I foresee it. So I’m going to say by the end of the year. And we will move on as a nation and a people united,” he said.

Months after Trump’s presidency did not end before 2026 like Greaney predicted, he said in a new Instagram post shared Monday: “Our crisis is bigger than Trump and Vance and the billionaires and the Republican party. Spineless Democrats refuse to stand up for us even when they had the chance. “

Very few candidates have thrown their hats in the ring ahead of the 2028 presidential cycle.
