Iran issues Dubai warning – ‘UAE will pay’ as explosions reported in Hormuz | World | News

Iranian state media has warned that the UAE will “pay the price” if the country is found to have committed “hostile actions” in connection with explosions at Bahman Pier. Explosions have been reported in the city of Bandar Abbas as well as the island of Qeshm, according to the Fars and Mehr news agencies.

Bandar Abbas is to the north of the Strait of Hormuz, while Qeshm is an island in the vital waterway. The Tasnim news agency also reported that three US Navy destroyers near the Strait have been targeted by the Iranian navy. State media previously said they came under fire following an attack by the US military on an Iranian oil tanker.

The Tasnim news agency also reported that “some sources” said the explosions in Bandar Abbas were related to defence systems engaging with two small drones.

“If this matter is confirmed, the UAE will pay the price for its hostile act”, it said.

Iran’s military has since accused the US of violating the ceasefire by targeting the oil tanker, as well as sending another ship through the Strait.

A spokesperson said: “The aggressive, terrorist, and pirate US military has violated the ceasefire.” They accused the US of airstriking “civilian areas” along the “coasts of Bandar Khamir, Sirik, and Qeshm Island”.

The US strikes were launched “with the cooperation of some regional countries”, they added, and responded with the attack on military vessels, “reportedly inflicting significant damage on them”.

Despite this, a senior US official told Fox News that the strikes on Qeshm and Bandar Abbas do not mean the war is restarting or the ceasefire has ended.

US Central Command said the military “intercepted unprovoked Iranian attacks and responded with self-defence strikes”.

It accused Iran of launching “multiple missiles, drones and small boats” while USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta, and USS Mason travelled through the Strait of Hormuz.

In response, the US targeted Iranian military facilities, “including missile and drone launch sites; command and control locations; and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance nodes”.
