Tom Hiddleston Just Aced the Grown-Man Travel Outfit

Lately, it feels like every celebrity airport fit falls into one of two buckets: Either it’s full Hollywood fantasy—giant sunnies, cashmere sets, a Rimowa that costs more than your rent—or it’s someone in gray sweats and a pair of cooked Air Force 1s. But somewhere in the middle of all that sits Tom Hiddleston, who’s figured out the exact right level of airport dressiness without looking like he’s flying out for a management consultancy conference.

Yesterday, the British actor was spotted arriving at JFK in a long wool coat with classic notch lapels and a knee-length hem. Big Coat Season might technically be over, but airports and planes are basically their own weird climate anyway—freezing air con, aggressively cold cabins, some guy next to you insisting on leaving the window shade open the entire flight. Which means the power move of a genuinely good overcoat still very much applies. Throw one on and suddenly everything just looks sexier.

And that’s really what makes Hiddleston’s touchdown fit work so well. Nothing about it feels overthought. He’s not dressing like he’s trying to do airport fashion for the ’gram. He just looks like a very put-together man who happened to get on a flight.

Just so he didn’t veer too corporate, he wore it over a black shirt with the top two buttons undone. He also swapped all-too-predictable black leather shoes for a pair of grey suede Chelsea boots, which softened the whole vibe slightly. Black leather would’ve pushed the fit too far into “finance guy catching the 6:30 to Frankfurt.” The suede, though, keeps everything nice and relaxed.

Somehow, his hair survived too. Most people get off a red-eye looking greasy, puffy, and spiritually defeated. The Avengers star’s lid was still perfectly swept back.

Maybe that’s the real trick to airport dressing: Looking like you still have mild control over your life after eight hours in the air. And Tom Hiddleston’s most definitely nailed it, all with a massive grin on his face.
