Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is reportedly requesting to have his security reinstated after a confrontation near his new home on Wednesday. The disgraced royal was approached by a man in a balaclava, who was later arrested, while out on a dog walk on the Sandringham Estate.

The confrontation has apparently left the royal “shaken” and wanting his taxpayer-funded security back, according to The Telegraph. While he was accompanied by his own private security detail during the recent altercation, Andrew’s publicly funded protection was withdrawn in 2022, three years after he stepped down as a working royal.

The disgraced royal was approached and shouted at by the suspect before getting in a car and driving away. The man had allegedly run after the royal and was arrested for possession of an offensive weapon.

A spokesperson from Norfolk Police told HELLO!: “Officers were called to Wolferton shortly after 7.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 6 May 2026) following a report a man was behaving in an intimidating manner in the village.

“Officers attended, and the man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon. He was taken to King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre for questioning and remains in custody.”

Alex Jenkinson, 39, pleaded not guilty at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday 8 May to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with the intent to cause fear or provoke violence.

After being stripped of his remaining titles in October last year, Andrew was evicted from Royal Lodge and relocated to Marsh Farm in Sandringham. Before Andrew officially moved into his new home over Easter, the Norfolk property underwent construction work, including an electric fence and a six-foot-tall wooden fence as added safety measures amid the ongoing controversy over his links to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew currently relies on private security, which former head of royal protection and a former divisional commander in the Metropolitan Police, Dai Davies, told HELLO! in March is likely 24-hour cover.

“The King has decided that he should live on the estate, and that’s his decision. I mean, he’s got to live somewhere. A huge amount of money is being spent renovating where he is going to stay,” Dai, who doesn’t believe the disgraced royal needs more protection now, said.
