Born in Dublin on May 31, 1976, Colin first rose to fame in the late 1990s before becoming one of Hollywood’s hottest leading men in the early 2000s thanks to films including Tigerland, Phone Booth, Minority Report and S.W.A.T.

Over the years, Colin steadily rebuilt his reputation, choosing more challenging and diverse roles that showcased his remarkable talent. His performances in In Bruges, The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Banshees of Inisherin and HBO’s The Penguin earned widespread critical acclaim and numerous awards.

His role as Oz Cobb in The Penguin proved particularly transformative, with the actor disappearing beneath extensive prosthetics to portray the Gotham City crime boss. The performance earned him a Golden Globe and further cemented his status as one of the industry’s most versatile performers.

More recently, Colin has appeared in Sugar, the twisty detective drama hailed as “one of the best neo-noir thrillers in years”, which is set to return for a second season. Back in 2024, Colin explained that he was keen to flesh out his character in further instalments.

Girl, 15, dies after getting into difficulty in water at popular beach | UK | News

Emergency services were called to the shore on Albert Road at approximately 3.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday (May 25) following concerns raised over the safety of a 15-year-old girl.

Merseyside Police released a statement on Saturday, May 30, identifying the girl as Chiedza Nyanjowa.

A force spokesperson said: “Chiedza Nyanjowa, who is from the Cheshire area, was taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital where she sadly passed away earlier today, Saturday May 30.”

In a tribute, her family said: “Her family would like to express their gratitude to everyone that helped Chiedza.”, reports Liverpool ECHO.

“Her family are glad that there were people around her to support her, their support shows that she was loved.

“This is a difficult time for the family, who would appreciate any form of prayer.

“Her family describe her as a bubbly person, she loved Christ and going to church. She loved cooking, she was a giver and wanted to be nurse when she grew up so she could give back.

“She will be greatly missed and remembered for her kind spirit.”

The matter has been referred to Sefton Coroner’s office. On Thursday, the ECHO reported how two off-duty nurses attempted to assist Chiedza after rescuers pulled her from the water.

It is understood the two nurses had been in the sea themselves before rushing over to offer assistance. National Trust staff were also reported to have arrived at the scene, followed by the lifeguard, while the two nurses carried out CPR on the teenager.

A person close to one of the nurses involved told the ECHO: “[They] are the ones who gave life saving treatment on the beach for 30 minutes until the air ambulance arrived. They are both nurses.”

The force confirmed that officers are continuing to support the family while enquiries remain ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

DCI Nuttall said: “We know that Formby beach was exceptionally busy on Bank Holiday Monday but I would appeal for anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information which could assist our enquiries to get in touch as a matter of urgency.

“Our officers and I would also like to offer our gratitude to the members of the public who came to the assistance of the 15-year-old girl and her family during such tragic circumstances on Formby beach.”

Love Island USA Drops Vasana From Cast Following Use of N-Word

Love Island USA Drops Vasana From Cast Following Use of N-Word

Days before Love Island USA is set to kick off its eighth season, islander Vasana Montgomery has been pulled from the cast after social media posts emerged of her using the N-word.

Montgomery, a business owner from Beaverton, Oregon, has been dropped from the cast, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Her removal from the cast comes a few days after the initial slate of season eight islanders was announced on Thursday, and following its seventh season which also saw the removal of two cast members from the show for past use of racial slurs.

Yulissa Escobar was an original cast member on Love Island USA season seven. After she entered the villa, clips of her using the N-word resurfaced online, and she was pulled from the show. Roughly a month later, Cierra Ortega was also removed from the villa after receiving backlash for a social media post that showed her using a racial slur.

THR understands that the videos that surfaced online appear to be privately owned and not shared publicly until after the season eight cast was announced, meaning they would not have been accessible for prior vetting. Following the cast reveal, two videos of Montgomery using the N-word surfaced online, prompting instant backlash.

It’s unclear if Montgomery had already entered the Love Island USA villa and began filming for season eight.

Despite facing some controversy with its seventh season that aired during the summer of 2025, the show became the Peacock’s most-watched original series, with season seven accounting for 18.4 billion minutes of watch time over its six-week run. Amaya Espinal and Bryan Arenales were ultimately named the winners of season seven.

Love Island USA season eight premieres on Peacock on Tuesday.

I’m an iPhone user who switches to Gemini with Android Auto in the car – why I don’t regret it

I’m an iPhone user who switches to Gemini with Android Auto in the car – why I don’t regret it

Lance Whitney/ZDNET

Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google.

As an iPhone owner, I primarily use Siri through CarPlay when I’m driving. Apple’s voice assistant can handle basic tasks like giving me turn-by-turn directions, making phone calls, sending texts, checking my calendar, creating reminders, and playing music and podcasts. For more challenging questions that stump Siri, I’ve been turning to ChatGPT.

But since my Toyota Camry supports Android Auto as well, I wanted to see how Google Gemini would fare as my in-car assistant. With that in mind, I’ve been using Gemini with my Android phone when I’m behind the wheel. I’ve given it a variety of tasks to perform and questions to answer.

Also: Does Android Auto make your phone overheat? Try these 8 ways to cool it down

With Google’s AI, you can send emails and messages, ask for playlist suggestions, get information on local restaurants and businesses via Google Maps, set reminders, ask any question on your mind, play a game, listen to a story, and more.

How did Gemini perform in my experience? You’ll have to read on to find out. But here’s how I’ve been using Gemini and how you can, as well.

How to set up and use Gemini in the car

What you need: To rev up Gemini through Android Auto, you need an Android phone and a car that supports Android Auto. Check Google’s “Find your ride with Android Auto” page to see if your car’s stereo or multimedia system is compatible.

If you have the right phone and car, let’s go through the initial steps.

Set up Gemini on your Android phone

Screenshot by Lance Whitney/ZDNET

The process is different on Samsung phones. Here, head to Settings, select Apps, and tap the option to choose default apps. Tap the entry for Digital Assistant app and make sure it says Google.

If not, tap the entry on the next screen and change the selection to Google. To confirm that Gemini is the default on your Samsung phone, hold down the power button. A window should pop up telling you that Gemini is your new AI assistant from Google.

To use Gemini in your car, you want to be able to activate it hands-free. For this, open the Gemini app on your phone, tap your profile icon, and select Settings. Tap the option to talk to Gemini hands-free, and then turn on the switch for “Hey Google.” Tap the Turn on button and then tap Done.

Check for Android Auto

Next, connect your Android phone to your car. You can do this through a wired USB cable or a wireless Bluetooth connection. For a wired connection, you need Android 9 or higher; for a wireless one, you need Android 11 or higher.

After connecting your phone, go back to the Android Auto settings on your device and tap the “Connect a vehicle” button. If your phone is plugged in via USB, the connection is automatically established. If you’re going the wireless route, choose the option to connect using wireless Android Auto, and then opt to connect using Bluetooth.

On your car’s multimedia screen, go to Settings, select “Bluetooth and devices,” tap the button to add another device, and then tap the button to search for devices. Select the name of your phone on your car’s screen after it pops up. The same pairing code appears on your phone and the car screen. Confirm the code on both devices.

On the car screen, tap Yes when asked if you want to use Android Auto. You should then see the Android Auto interface on your screen.

View the Android Auto screen

Gemini is still rolling out as a voice assistant for Android Auto, so the AI isn’t yet accessible to everyone. To check when you’re in your car and Android Auto is active, say: “Hey Google. Are you using Gemini?” If the assistant doesn’t understand your request, then you’re still stuck with the older Google Assistant. But if it proclaims that it’s using Gemini, then you’re good to go.

You’re now ready to chat with Gemini. To take the AI for a spin, just say: “Hey, Google” to activate it and tell it what you want. Now, here are some of the tasks I gave it and how it performed.

First up, I was hungry for one of my favorite foods — sushi. I asked Gemini to find some nearby Japanese sushi restaurants. The AI pulled up a list of nearby spots. One restaurant in particular interested me, so I asked for more information about it. Gemini then asked if I wanted to go there, at which point it served up driving directions via Google Maps.

I needed to contact someone while I was driving but didn’t want to fiddle with a phone call. Instead, I told Gemini to send that person a text. The AI asked me for the subject, which I supplied. The text went on its merry way.

As a huge Spider-Man fan, I’ve been keen to watch the new “Spider-Noir” series on Amazon Prime and was curious about its initial reception. I asked Gemini to give me the latest reviews of the show. The AI provided a general overview and read a few specific reviews for me.

To pass the time while driving, I typically listen to music or podcasts. But sometimes I want something more interactive. Here, I asked Gemini to play a game. The AI tuned up a trivia game about US history. At first, the questions were too simple. But I told Gemini to give me more of a challenge, and it did the trick.

Finally, a good conversation is another way to stay engaged during a lengthy car ride. Here, I asked Gemini to start a stimulating conversation. It returned to the topic of Mr. Giggles speaking, and we discussed what he might say about his favorite foods, his least favorite household item (the robot vacuum), and other things around the house.

In the end, I liked the ease and effectiveness of chatting with Gemini in the car. Compared with using both Siri and ChatGPT on my iPhone, Gemini is more of a one-stop shop, helping me with everything from basic commands to more complex, interactive tasks. From now on, I’ll be sure to take my Android phone with me when I drive so I can call on Gemini whenever I want.

Jason Blum on Obsession, Backrooms Box Office Success Saving Our Industry

Jason Blum on Obsession, Backrooms Box Office Success Saving Our Industry

Obsession and Backrooms are breaking records and making history at the box office, and producers Jason Blum and James Wan say the films are reminiscent of the 1970s era of young filmmakers breaking into the horror genre.

The horror leaders opened the Produced By Conference at Universal Studios lot Saturday, where they sat down with PGA President Stephanie Allain to discuss the state of cinema, movie theaters’ recovery from COVID and their future goals for Blumhouse–Atomic Monster.

“Since COVID, there’s been this lethargic feeling around theatrical, and is it relevant anymore and is it going to survive?” Blum said. “And what I think is so incredible about Obsession and Backrooms is that they’re a new kind of movie. They’re made by non-traditional directors, directors who really honed their skills as creators online.”

Obsession, released May 15, was written and directed by 26-year-old YouTuber Curry Barker and made for $750,000. Now in its third week, the Focus Features and Blumhouse release is making history as the first movie outside of Christmas since 1982 to increase in its second and third weekends.

Meanwhile, Backrooms debuts this weekend from fellow YouTuber Kane Parsons, who at just 20 years old is eyeing the biggest opening in A24 history. Co-financed by Chernin Entertainment, the $10 million adaptation of Parsons’ viral YouTube short-film series could gross as much as $90 million.

Blum and Wan also noted that they have another forthcoming project, a Blair Witch Project reboot with a creator, Dylan Clark, who got his start online.

“Their hope and desire and dream is to make cool movies,” Blum said. “Backrooms and Obsession are edgy and weird and fucking nuts. And to me, there’s almost this feeling of the ’70s, of a new generation of young people making edgy movies that are connecting in theaters in a crazy way. So many young people grew up in a time when they couldn’t go to the movies, and they haven’t had something made for them that gets them off their iPad and into theaters. Suddenly they have two movies.”

Obsession this weekend went up 20 percent from last weekend,” Blum continued. “Last weekend it went up 30 percent from the opening weekend. No movie has done that, gone up two weekends in a row, since E.T. It is unbelievable.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, Wan, whose directing credits include Saw, The Conjuring and Insidious, spoke about where his passion for genre storytelling originated and how horror’s success continues to help the entertainment industry.

“I’ve been a horror fan since I was a kid, and so naturally I grew up on a steady diet of horror movies through the ’80s and ’90s, inspired by great filmmakers like John Carpenter and Wes Craven,” Wan said. “I look at them and think, ‘You know what? I kind of want to do what they did.’ Today we kind of mimic that model. And here we are. I say this to anyone who will listen: The horror genre keeps saving our industry.”

As for the future of Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, which includes television, gaming and live-events divisions and officially closed its merger deal in 2024, the producers said they plan to “adapt with the audience” and refuse to “get comfortable.”

“What’s the aspiration?” Blum asked. “‘The Disney of horror’ is the aspiration in five years.”

MV Hondius hantavirus cruise ship cleared to sail again after deadly outbreak | World | News

MV Hondius hantavirus cruise ship cleared to sail again after deadly outbreak | World | News

The cruise vessel at the heart of a fatal hantavirus outbreak has been given the all-clear to return to service, Oceanwide Expeditions has announced.

MV Hondius triggered a worldwide health emergency earlier this month when passengers contracted the disease. A total of 13 confirmed cases have been linked to the outbreak, resulting in three fatalities.

Hantavirus is an uncommon rodent-borne virus for which no vaccines or specific treatments are available, and the virus can remain dormant in the body for up to eight weeks.

However, following comprehensive cleaning and disinfection procedures, the vessel is now ready to resume operations, with the Dutch public health agency stating there are ‘no longer any obstacles to putting the Hondius back to sea’.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) instructed the 22 British passengers aboard to remain at Arrowe Park Hospital on the Wirral, in Merseyside for testing – they began quarantine on May 10.

Six individuals were permitted to depart the hospital to complete their isolation at home on May 13, but the remaining 16 passengers continue to stay at the facility, reports the Mirror.

Just over nine weeks since the initial passenger became unwell aboard on April 6, the vessel is anticipated to set sail once more.

The most recent statement from Oceanwide Expeditions reads: “The planned departure of m/v Hondius from the port of Rotterdam to Vlissingen has been delayed following advice from GGD Rotterdam for additional cleaning procedures.

“The remaining crew members from the original voyage were escorted to quarantine facilities on Saturday evening. Captain Jan Dobrogowski was transported to Poland via specialized transport. Where appropriate, Dutch crew members have returned to their homes for home quarantine as per established protocols.

“GGD Rotterdam, in cooperation with Oceanwide Expeditions, wants to ensure that the vessel is ready to be safely returned to service. Based on their inspection findings, GGD has advised additional cleaning. Following completion of this work, GGD will conduct a final inspection before the vessel can depart from Rotterdam.

“We will communicate the expected timeline for these procedures as soon as this becomes clear. At this stage, all voyages from 13 June onwards will proceed as scheduled. No further disruption to the sailing schedule of m/v Hondius is expected.”

Niall Horan on Liam Payne’s Death, Last Time Seeing Him, Memories

Niall Horan on Liam Payne’s Death, Last Time Seeing Him, Memories

Niall Horan opened up about the death of his former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne in a new interview with The Times U.K., noting that he spent time with Payne in Argentina a few weeks before he died.

Payne died on Oct. 16, 2024, after falling from the third floor of a hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31.

“I’m glad of that, it means my last memory of him was happy,” Horan said in the interview. “It still feels surreal. On day one I was, like, ‘Nah, it didn’t happen.’ Our friendship was a bond that was there forever even if we hadn’t seen each other for a while and it’s wild that one day, like the flick of a switch, he’s gone.”

Horan explained that although Payne’s death evokes “sadness,” he tries to reminisce on the many great memories they made together.

“When I think of Liam’s passing, there is sadness, but it also makes me laugh and smirk because of the memories we had,” Horan said. “I’ll go to places and think of something stupid in a hotel or something random that makes me laugh. We always had good fun in Australia because we were able to get out and go to the beach. Liam wasn’t too bad at surfing. I can barely swim.”

The artist is gearing up for the release of his fourth studio album Dinner Party, which includes a track dedicated in Payne’s honor.

Entitled “End of an Era,” Horan was asked what he thought the “Strip That Down” singer would think of the song. “I think it’s his type of song, he liked Coldplay, he loved songs like ‘You & I’ by One Direction, songs that went somewhere,” he responded.

The British boy band One Direction was assembled on The X Factor in 2010. Consisting of Payne, Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik, they quickly shot to international stardom, and remained so through March 2015, when Malik announced he was exiting the group. They remained as a foursome through the beginning of 2016.

Payne’s fellow former One Direction band member Styles recently opened up about losing Payne, telling Zane Lowe that after his death, he vowed to live life to the fullest to honor him.

Hey there, little squeaker! What would life be like if you could quit scrounging for scraps, broke as a mouse, always stressed you won’t get the kiddy mousies enough food for tomorrow’s breakfast?

Wouldn’t it be nice to bag you a big old piece of French cheese that lasted all month? Okay then, friend, buckle in. If you want to up your smarts (and your game … of life), stop wasting time and money on these things, and you’ll be the Rat King of Staten Island.

You can usually tell how unintelligent someone is by these 4 things they waste time & money on:

1. Small thinking

You can think like a King, even if you wear clothes with holes in them. Thinking bigger and asking bigger, followed by big, bold action, may take courage, but you’ll make your life, especially your financial life, far easier.

Money scripts, according to clinical psychologist Dr. Brad Klontz, are unconscious beliefs that quietly run our financial lives. A money avoidance script keeps people stuck because money avoiders perceive the idea of having money as negative, and it’s those negative (false) thoughts that hold them back from being wealthy and successful.

2. Avoiding problems

The central life mission of unintelligent people is to tread lightly, never ruffle any feathers, and avoid problems at all costs. It’s stressful, and they can’t afford any more of that. But if you want to leap towards financial freedom, you must see opportunity in problems. Seek them out to solve them and be paid for their solutions.

Financial avoidance leads to worsening economic problems and further avoidant behavior, which can manifest in behaviors like not checking bank statements, ignoring bills, or avoiding discussions about money altogether.

“Severe avoiders neglect basic self-care. They don’t go to the dentist or doctor because [they] don’t want to spend the money,” Dr. Klontz explained. The avoidance people use to feel safer in their circumstances is the exact thing keeping them stuck in those circumstances.

3. Buying fancy stuff

Being in a position to buy more fancy items you don’t need (darn you, one-click Amazon check-out!) will make you feel good and secure — for a second. But these are temporary feelings and have nothing to do with long-term happiness or intelligence.

Quit the impulse purchases, or even better, have your bank automatically withdraw your paycheck into a savings account each month so there’s no temptation at all. It’s like the money didn’t exist in the first place.

4. Romanticizing being broke

One of the most ridiculous things I see is people simultaneously needing money (because we live on an economic planet) while seeing the pursuit of money as wretched. You need to bin that thinking right now.

Forget all the junk the schools, parents, and churches taught you: Money is a tool that gives you leverage. You can use it for dastardly things, or you can use it for good.

No one who made it big was born a salesman. Making money wasn’t even a thing for the first few million years of our existence. But now money is relevant, and we have to accept that. Making money must be seen as a craft to learn.

Because we all need money, unless you love scrounging and expect someone else to give you everything. Stop telling yourself the story that you ‘aren’t into selling.’

You’re a human, so you’re a salesperson by default. Learn specific skills that earn. Ask people who make good money questions. Learn sales, persuasion, marketing, and business. Applied knowledge is what separates you from the money you need to live — and hopefully, someday give.
