Princess Charlotte turns eleven on Saturday, 2nd May. How fast the time has gone since she arrived in the world?
The young royal is a true mix of both her mother, the Princess of Wales, and her father, Prince William. As a fashion editor who has been specialising in royal style for over eight years, I’ve enjoyed watching her transition from a cute toddler to a young girl. Charlotte always appears poised, warm, and joyful in public – it’s plain to see why the young role is so popular.
Princess Charlotte’s style has evolved over the years
I have a daughter of my own, and I often look to Charlotte for inspiration when putting together her outfits due to how age-appropriate her mother Kate’s choices are. We haven’t seen Charlotte wear anything publicly like a crop top, a band T-shirt, or anything too trend-led.
Her look is timeless, and her clothes could easily be passed down to siblings. This speaks to me as a parent. In a world where children are forced to grow up fast, Charlotte symbolises the magic of childhood, and this is conveyed with her dresses, sweet separates, and hair bows.

The ‘Charlotte’ effect
Charlotte’s Rachel Riley dress made history in 2021
From an early age, Charlotte has generated a huge following with her outfits.
One moment that springs to mind is when she turned six. Birthday photos are widely anticipated by royal fans, and Charlotte’s portrait back in 2021 was no different. Prince Louis’ elder sister actually made fashion history when she donned a floral dress by luxury children’s brand Rachel Riley. The ditsy floral design, which had a price tag of £59, proved to be the fastest-selling item in the brand’s history.
Charlotte has been wearing traditional, floral dresses throughout her life
HELLO! spoke to the fashion designer at the time. Rachel had no idea that Charlotte was going to be wearing her dress. “It was such a treat to see! It was a delightful surprise, I wasn’t expecting it at all,” she recalled. “I became aware of the picture when my friends and family started sending me messages asking if the dress was one of ours.”
There was huge interest in the frock since the pictures were released; so much so, the brand completely sold out within 12 hours, and jaw-droppingly sold six months’ worth of the dress in just three days. “We had so many messages from customers asking if they could still order it, so we set up a pre-order system, and it will be back in stock in a few weeks. It’s our fastest-selling royal item, ever,” she remembers.
The young royal wore this bespoke Catherine Walker gown in April
On Easter Sunday morning this year, Charlotte stepped out at St. George’s Chapel alongside her parents and her brothers, Prince George and Prince Louis.
She kept out the chill in a bespoke butterscotch Catherine Walker coat, which featured contrasting mocha brown lapels, buttons, and cuffs. The young royal last wore the statement style at church on Christmas Day 2025. Charlotte added resplendent ballet pumps by Tory Burch, a brand loved by her mother, Princess Kate.
Princess Charlotte’s wardrobe “avoids any obvious trends”
“Princess Charlotte has become something of a fashion icon for timeless, heritage-inspired dressing,” Charlotte Kewley, baby and children’s fashion stylist, tells HELLO!. “Her outfits are always beautiful and avoid any obvious trends, but it’s the thoughtful details that make her look; the neatly tied hair bow, velvet collars, patent Mary Janes, and the classic wool coat,” she notes.
The talented professional, who goes by ‘The Little Stylist’ on Instagram, added: “At a time when many children aspire to look older than their years, it’s refreshing and lovely to see a ten-year-old girl looking her age! Not overly mature, not too casual. And never dressed in anything synthetic.”

Modern heritage dress like this design from Smock London nods to regal fashion
Although the royal has been sporting more bespoke pieces of late, it’s easy to emulate her look with items that are worth their investment. I love to head to brands featuring individual, heritage designs that are expertly made. I often buy items that are slightly bigger so my daughter will get the maximum wear out of them, just like Charlotte.
Charlotte appears to have always enjoyed wearing dresses. Smock London is known for their modern heritage designs, and some of their dresses have a keepsake regality about them.
Needle & Thread has a stunning selection of girls’ dresses
Charlotte’s light brown hair has always been long, and she is rarely without a bow, making this hair accessory hugely popular again.
Princess Charlotte has made hair bows ‘cool’ again
Bows like Charlotte’s “effortlessly combine elegance with a hint of nostalgia, offering a soft, luxurious texture,” explains professional stylist Georgie Gray. “They add instant charm and sophistication without being overly formal,” she previously told HELLO!.
Thanks to Charlotte, I love traditional hair accessories for my daughter, and Classette has some wonderful items in regal colours such as racing green, red, and navy. Rockahula also has princess-like hair accessories, with bow headbands galore. Chosen wisely, they can be worn for school, and just like all of Princess Charlotte’s fashion choices, they are perfectly polished and age-appropriate.
