Josh Widdicombe The Last Leg future revealed after Strictly casting

Following the news that Josh Widdicombe will be part of the new presenting team on Strictly Come Dancing, fans of The Last Leg had worried that this might impact his work on that long-running Channel 4 show.

However, it now appears there is no reason to fear, as Channel 4 has reportedly confirmed to The Sun that Widdicombe will be remaining on The Last Leg, alongside his co-star Adam Hills and Alex Brooker.

The publication has reported that the filming dates for The Last Leg don’t clash with those for Strictly, meaning he will be able to appear in both shows.

Radio Times has reached out to Channel 4 for comment or confirmation.

The Last Leg, which recently finished airing its 34th season, has been airing on Channel 4 since 2012, when it originally ran alongside that year’s Summer Paralympics. It has since become a more general satirical talk show reviewing the week’s events.

Widdicombe, who has been part of the series since its inception, was announced as part of the Strictly presenting team on Tuesday (19 May), alongside Emma Willis and Johannes Radebe.

Kate Phillips, the BBC’s chief content officer, said in a statement: “Emma, Johannes and Josh’s chemistry is undeniable. There’s been so much speculation and hype, so I’m relieved we can share the news with the public at last!

“I’d like to thank all the brilliant people we saw before making this tough decision. But the most beloved ballroom in the UK always leads the way, and in a Strictly first we have chosen three outstanding hosts to take up the mantle.

“Along with our amazing Strictly team, who are busy planning fabulous and unforgettable treats for this new series, I know this terrific trio can’t wait to join our judges and pros to bring us must-see TV on the BBC this autumn.”

Since then, former host Tess Daly, who presented the beloved dance series alongside both Bruce Forsyth and Claudia Winkleman, has given her reaction to the new presenting team, commenting on Instagram: “Can’t wait to tune in”.

The Last Leg is available to watch on catch-up on Channel 4. Strictly Come Dancing is available to watch on catch-up on BBC iPlayer.
