While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s UK move continues to have royal commentators in a spin, one has theorised on why the couple decided to move to the Cotswolds. It has been reported that the pair, with their two children, are now living in the scenic area of England following six years in California. Many have shared their theories on why the couple have chosen that location upon a return to Britain, and one commentator believes it is for “pretentious” reasons.
Journalist Neil Sea, who has long covered stories related to the Royal Family, has shed some light on the Sussexes’ decision to live in the Cotswolds. In a recent video shared on YouTube, the royal commentator talked about the kind of area the couple are currently living in with their children, and what kind of people take up residence there.
“A lot of people ask me why the Cotswolds,” he said. “Well, it’s quite simple, really. She knew that area a little bit, all thanks to her frequent trips to Soho House.”
He continued: “The Cotswolds is the area that, if you want to move and shake, you know, a lot of the movers and shakers are there.
“I’ve been there. It’s pretentious. It’s a nice place if you’re an ordinary citizen living a very quiet life. But all the media people just turn up in areas looking for who’s there.
“[It is] probably a little bit like the Hamptons, I might imagine.”
He then claimed that Meghan “wanted to be in that set.” He added: “That’s why Harry had to agree to the Cotswolds.”
Harry and Meghan were reportedly concerned about security when choosing a UK home to rent, and it is understood to be a huge consideration for the couple. “For a family with their level of public attention, it isn’t just about how impressive a property looks,” said Saif Derzi, founder of Property Buyers Today.
“They’d need to consider how easily the grounds can be secured and whether their movements could be easily monitored or predicted.”
Saif added: “For Harry and Meghan, privacy is likely to be the most important priority when choosing a Cotswolds property.
“They’ll need somewhere that offers genuine seclusion, strong security potential, and enough space to give their family a sense of normality.”
