Candice Bergen – best known for the hit 1990s sitcom Murphy Brown as well as her guest spots playing Vogue’s fictional editor-in-chief, Enid Frick, on Sex and the City – celebrated her 80th birthday on May 9.
To usher in the milestone, the actress appeared alongside her daughter, Vogue’s head of editorial content Chloe Malle, on The Run-Through podcast. Candice opened up about how she balanced her career in the spotlight with raising her children.
“It was certainly demanding to do a show and be the kind of present parent that I wanted to be…but I felt that I was present in ways that mattered and on a continuous basis,” she said.
The star also shared how her biggest gift she had received ahead of her 80th birthday was her grandchildren. “I just love those two kids. I love them to death and they are so different from one another and so filled with life and love,” she said of Chloe’s four-year-old daughter and five-year-old son. “I love getting to re-experience the joys of all that.”
To celebrate Candice’s milestone birthday, HELLO! takes a look back at her age-defying transformation over the years.

Candice still sports her signature blonde locks. However, today, she opts for more monochromatic ensembles, like this black outfit she wore to the Neighborhood Playhouse 2025 Gala at Tavern On The Green.
