In a poster for the 10th anniversary re-release of the film, Ryan Gosling’s hand has been subtly edited so that it points upward, mirroring that of his co-star, Emma Stone. The original poster showed Gosling’s hand being held flat. The actor previously said that he did not know the original image – shot in Griffith Park in Los Angeles – would be used to promote the film, and he held his hand that way because he thought it would look “cool”. He dubbed the position the “La La Hand” and said that it “killed the energy” of the image. The new hand position was unveiled on Tuesday in an Instagram post sharing the edited poster, with the caption: “A minor adjustment.” …

How Andy Burnham may try to give the UK economy a boost in his ‘10-year plan’

How Andy Burnham may try to give the UK economy a boost in his ‘10-year plan’

Andy Burnham’s long held ambition to be the UK’s prime minister will come with some daunting economic challenges. Productivity growth is at a virtual standstill, real incomes have stagnated and the cost-of-living crisis has become a permanent fixture for many households. Meanwhile, the government spends around £110 billion a year paying the interest on nearly £3 trillion of debt. Burnham says he is on a “10-year mission” to transform the country. So what might he do to try to fix the British economy? One thing that voters can reasonably expect is a move towards greater devolution of power – especially spending power – to the English metro regions. As mayor of Greater Manchester, Burnham often argued that too many economic decisions were made in London, and that this held the rest of the country back. Burnham believes that allowing other regions to implement their own locally led pro-growth policies could transform Britain’s economic prospects. It’s a view shared by one of his key economic advisers, Jim O’Neill, who has long argued that creating metro growth …

Is My UK Passport Valid For EU Travel? 10-Year Rule Check

Is My UK Passport Valid For EU Travel? 10-Year Rule Check

The EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES) rules recently came into force, which left some UK fliers queueing for hours and even missing flights amidst airport chaos. This is meant to lead into the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS), which will mean non-EU nationals hoping for a short stay in Schengen countries will have to apply to do so online. But there’s a lesser-known rule already in place that could affect UK passengers flying abroad, which Nick Caunter, the managing director of Airport Parking and Hotels, dubbed the ’10-year passport rule’. What is the 10-year passport rule? To travel to the EU and Schengen countries, UK fliers’ passports need to be under 10 years old at the time of arrival. This change came about after Brexit. And UK passports need to have at least three months remaining before they expire while travelling to these countries, too. If your passport was issued after 2018, it won’t stay valid for more than 10 years anyway, the Post Office explained. They’re usually valid for a decade exactly, meaning …

NASA robot completes 10-year mission

NASA robot completes 10-year mission

Valkyrie, a humanoid robot that was previously trained to assist NASA with Mars mission preparations, will soon return to the United States after spending nearly ten years in Edinburgh working with researchers to help improve robotic locomotion. Valkyrie is approximately 1.8 meters tall (6-foot, 2-inches) and weighs around 125 kilograms (300-pounds). For 10 years, it was used at the University of Edinburgh by researchers who wanted to see how humanoids could walk, balance, and recognize their environment. Only three Valkyrie units have been manufactured. The Valkyrie at the University of Edinburgh was the only one outside of the United States. The robot will return to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, after completing a ten-year lease at the University of Edinburgh, where the research program was hosted.
